What weed grinders do you like? Do you even grind?

So finally I have cleaned the Bud wakker for the first time.
It was a little sticky and that slowed it down.
It also got jammed with the pull string hanging out.
I just loosened the 4 small screws on bottom and it wound back up and works fine.
I re tightened the screws a little.
Really love this grinder and the way it chops up the herb.

I’m starting to find as more things ache, just cleaning weed is a tough issue.
I need to look into better cleaning and grinding equipment.

I can still twist a grinder but it freeking hurts, my daighter usually does it for me when I’m in the bay area, but in the foothills and when I travel, I’m left to my own weak hand.

Coffee grinder and an air tight jar will be your best friend if it hurts to twist a grinder.

They also have this thing called a "wakit"

I like the Bud Wakker, too. it's fun and the look has a "retro toy" vibe that I dig. I wonder if the pull action would be more comfortable for you than twisting a traditional grinder?

I've seen @Bandit420 mention the ultrasonic cleaners enough to make me think about getting one to try out. This might be a good time to see if there's any holiday deals happening. I don't think the smaller ones are too pricey, but I haven't really studied up. There may be certain specs or something I to be look for. I might try to poke around try to learn about them some over the next week or so.

I had to use my spin by hand grinder for a couple days before I fixed the bud wakker.
The Bud wakker is just so much easier to use and chops so much better.

I got this ultrasonic for cleaning my vape stuff.
Does the job and is still cheap. Holds about 1/2 quart of iso.

You cleaned 'em good. They look new. I'm mildly jealous (just joking). I ordered one of each and got two blue. I think it was two for $50. Hard to beat $25 for something so effective. I go easy loading to grind. If I take a minute to break the bud down a little when loading the grinder, it doesn't take near as much force for the initial pull.

Nice! That's even cheaper than I was expecting. Does the alcohol evaporate off between uses or does it seal when you close the lid? Or, is it something you want to dump after each use, anyway?

The iso would last a while when I left it in the UC.
I usually poured it back into container though for later use.
You can clean multiple times or many objects before you need to change to new clean.
I would rinse some stuff after I pulled it out with fresh.

I’d like an ultrasound but I’ve found streaming hot tap water will clean most glass things quickly. (Bubblers or glass with chambers are still a pain and where I hope an ultrasound would do quickly.) I bent some cheap long tweezers to hold the glass tubes/straws. I bought the cheap dollar store mesh drain screen to put into the bottom and sit the tube/mouthpiece on that while holding with the tweezers. The more obstacles the longer it takes but usually a few minutes after a few days to a week of use.

Grinders I fill the bathroom sink with hot tap water after taking them apart. I let them soak a few minutes and then use an old toothbrush to scrub it under the hot water. (As hot as you can stand works faster.) The toothbrush will get gummy and might be easier to toss than clean.

Get a larger one as they are easier. 2.5” is nice. Larger would be better but bulky. I recently stopped using the keif catcher so didn’t bother putting that section back.

I’ve used an old electric coffee grinder I had long before I ever owned a manual one.

More than double the price up here.

Really getting tired of that. Can’t get the nice grinder you bought up here. Like the idea of blades. Think it would chop better for pipe smoking.

Son keeps asking what I want for Christmas but it not available up here. Probably has tariffs anyway. Lol

I usually soak in hot water first to help "loosen' particles.

Water is not a solvent at all for oils like left over cannabis/herb smoke particles/resins/oils, they don't mix, so it won't dissolve.

So I asked My self how or what would a chemical engineer think or use?

Alcohol acts as a good solvent and dissolves the particles, or paint thinners/acetone.

I can't recite the exact mechanism right now.

Bandit gave me the good idea of using a ultrasonic clean with ISO in it for cleaning glass pieces.

I Hate smoking out of dirty glass/bong, I like seeing the clear glass fill up with Milky smoke, and it's "healthier" to keep them clean.

You also get better taste/smoke.

I'm usually very anal about it and if I can afford the ISO constantly, I would even clean my glass after every bowl, helps keep it cleaner; easier to clean to.

It’s not dissolving it, it’s melting it so it can flow. Like wax. Cleans a straight piece in a minute. As long as it takes the glass to heat up.

You seem doubtful so here’s the steps.

The tube is amber but slightly dirty. And these are the tools needed. I dropped a clear one a while ago so bent the end of the tweezers.
IMG_7972.jpeg

I can move my spout but as long as you point it at the top of the tube it will work.
IMG_7975.jpeg

After a few seconds of very hot water it clumps up at the end. IMG_7976.jpeg

And then it’s done, under 30 seconds including setup. IMG_7977.jpeg

This one takes longer because of all the obstacles that are to help cool the vape before it gets to you. They trap the residue and take longer to heat and melt, but only a few minutes longer.IMG_7978.jpeg

No fuss or muss and ready to go once dried off. If I have to use ISO on something it needs to be washed after anyway so this works best for this type of mouth piece.

This still needs ISO if I don’t get to it after each use.IMG_7979.jpeg

This will be different for everybody depending on the pieces and where you're keeping the cleaner.
Mine is stashed on a shelf behind the dab bar and kept at room temp. It usually has iso in the tank 24/7 unless I'm changing it out

IMG_2789[1].jpeg

Life span of the tank depends.
If you're cleaning combustion smoking pieces like pipes and bowls, your tank is gonna gunk up with tar and get nasty after a bath or two.
Deep cleaning dab rigs and pieces that have held reclaim oil will also foul up a tank and lessen it's ability to deep clean.

Parts like my peak topper, glass tips for joints, lobo capsules, puffco heating chambers give me a very long lifespan on the tank since there's no heavy tar.
Life is indefinite really as long as the lid is kept on. There's very little evap with the lid and as long as it only gets warm during a wash cycle, mine seem to hold a tank well.

This one is about 40 days in and I think I topped it off once with about 1/2 quart.
I'm gonna deep clean some parts soon with this bath then change it out for a fresh tank.

I leave my parts in the iso bath until needed. Then I rinse them off, dry them, and they're ready for action.

The tank on my cleaner is always loaded and pretty much like what you're saying, drop a piece in after each use so I'm always using a clean and sterile piece.
I turn it on each morning so it warms and runs a cycle and just add and take parts thru the day.

I get 70% iso from costco at $7 for two quarts. Higher % iso would probably work faster, IDK, but the cheap 70% stuff works fantastic for me in a sonic cleaner. Spotless and sterile in about 5 minutes

Wait a minute...ok, nope...need a little more time. Alright, so if I understand the process, you place 70% ISO directly in the Ultrasonic Cleaner (UC) basin? Nice ultrasonic cleaner, I just purchased one as well. Your setup looks great. I completely support the UC methodology, minus one detail, which I will address later.

Have you looked into Alconox, Detonox or PBW? I did, and although I was hyped, it wasn't cost effective for Detonox. I wasn't interested in having to add a step to properly dispose of Alconox, and with all three, wasn't having the added step of proper rinse methodologies and sanitation issues. ISO is best, and really wanted to get away from alcohol, but for now, it is impossible.

Having said that...I am not on board with placing ISO directly into the UC basin. Everything I have read, specifically states to place ISO in a separate, semi sealed container, and then place that container in the UC basin. I would even suggest pushing fresh air over the top of the UC, just to prevent any risk of fumes gathering and then igniting.

Bandit420, you know I am a big fan of yours, so no malice here. I just am too paranoid to place the ISO directly in the UC basin. I dont doubt you are super safe and maybe its just the manufacturer protecting themselves from liability, but I just dont know.

And, please know that I am very aware of the fact that ISO is not super sensitive to flashing or combustion, ignition etc., unless using 90% or 99%. So, I kinda get it.

No judgment, just kinda encouraged a bit. I too, wanted to go your route, I am just a scardy cat is all.

Please feel free to talk about it as much as you want. I want to know everything, so I can do it too, haha!

Here is my purchase. Don't have it yet. Not sure I will ever get it. It shipped from Creworks, I think. I pulled the trigger on this one because everywhere online it was almost $200. But Amazon mistakenly priced it at $49.99. So once they realize the error I am confident they will cancel the order...lol. We will see.

Sometimes I just have to ;fafo

I'm not sure what's the big concern. Combustion?
I guess maybe if there was an open flame but you'd have to touch the flame to the iso to ignite it. 70% iso isn't like gasoline or anything and it's not like these cleaners produce bubbles like an air pump.
There's no fumes with the lid on or anything like that. Just sits there and buzzes for a while.

Some of these cleaners that are sonic and clean stuff like eyeglasses, use a similar diluted iso solution and then some use a jewelry cleaner which depends on ingredients to how flammable it may be.

You could also use other cleaners if too scared to use iso.
Lemon juice would be one I'd consider or maybe even vinegar.
I'd avoid chems like windex or other chem cleaners and more potent solvents like acetone, ethanol, or 99% iso.
70% seems to be very effective and safe for what I use it for. 4 years using two different cleaners and no issues.

That 10l model in your link is huge man! That would probably take more than a gallon of cleaner in the tank.
I'm using the 3l and it sells for less than $60. Takes around 1/2 gallon of iso to fill.
It will fit most anything like erig toppers and ash catchers

Oh yea, no worries. As I said...I am aware that the risk is VERY low. I kinda think its the industry just protecting themselves from liability.

I would totally love to fill the reservoir with ISO, but it is best fir me to sort my glass and use a large ziplock baggie or a large mason jar. Then I sort my glass. All Solo III glass stays together. All OG Mighty and Mighty+ PEEK and Dosing Capsules stays together. All Bubblers stay together. I clean by sorting materials and level of resin. Since I basically stay on top of it there us little anxiety if any.

Now that my UC is on the way I can clean daily or every other day. Just a couple minutes in a mason jar or ziplock bag and its done. Rather than an all day soak. I soak and shake my S&B stuff, cus its PEEK and Aluminum. I dont like scrubbing with a brush. So a soak and many shakes will do the trick.

But, now I have Solo III glass. It is the Solo glass that got me thinking about the UC. That also took me down the Alconox, Detonox and PBW road. These are fucking stellar products that are specifically designed for what we are cleaning. It's all organic materials, the resin. But, they require extra steps to finish out safely with regard to not posing any health threat should you NOT properly rinse and/or sanitize. So, for now I am holding off. Got a buddy who has several successful Restaurants/Micro-Breweries, and I hope to have a discussion about his use of PBW. I am curious to know his rinsing process, that ensures a complete removal of any PBW. I dont see him often, but hopefully soon enough we can speak to this. Incidentally, all three products mentioned are non- caustic, biodegradable, and used in organic applications.
