I'm going to make a box strictly for drying my pot......I'd like to run it past you all to see if there's something you'd do.

I intend on getting a large cardboard refrigerator box. Then frame it with 1x3 pine boards...I have the wood. add 3 input ports or rectangles on 3 bottom sides (as in tents) with filters. Add an exhaust pot with a small computer fan on the top. a small humidifier inside set at 60% and a small fan moving air...... I won't be able to add an air conditioner and It'll have to be house temps going from 63f - 67f .

Do you think the humidifier in a cardboard box will mold up after a few uses?....I see online folks using card board but I don't know if a cardboard box will be any good for more than 1 grow...

Any input?.....all suggestions welcome

That’s a great question I will say that if it dies deteriorate that that 4x8 sheet of 1/2” insulation board is real cheap in the us

I don't see why you would need a dehumidifier ir it's sealed up and the exaust turns off below 60rh.

My dehu will be outside the box just a humidifier & fan inside. My humidifier is programmable Ill set it at 60% and leave it....I didn't think about using hard board insulation to enclose it and I think that's a better idea than Cardboard, Plywood is too fking expensive now for a little project. Now to figure out how to get a sheet home in my small car. Fkers want $20 to deliver 5km away from their store since gas went up and now that its gone down they still want the delivery fee

Personally I would stay away from any lumber or paper products in the dry zone. They house mold.

From my experience, that 1" insulation board and some duct tape (metal tape if you are feeling froggy) would be perfect. I use a cheap 4x4 tent for my dry space. That might be easier to transport for you.

Here in the states you can get a 4x4x7 delivered for under $80

You could use green board and frame it on the outside with the wood you have and install the green board on the inside. Seal the seams w bathroom caulk and drill your holes between framing w a hole saw or make them with a drywall knife? Then the wood is outside the dry zone, leaving moisture resistant green board inside. Or some cheap metal framing on the corners like moe says would surely hold it together. 4’x8’ sheet of green board is $17 at home depot

Thanks but I've got it framed now, I used 1/4" plywood and 1x2" posts and glue along all the joints .......

$17 at Home Depot....lol good one........Not in Canada add15% = $37.75 Cdn......../ sheet + delivery charges

Too late now, I used my 3x3 the last time and it worked great but in the past I just hung it in a cool part of my house. I need a place to dry this crop of 8 plants and my 3x3 is full so to keep my harvest away from dust I have this box and it should be good enough for my purposes. You're right though had I thought of using a tent again I could have picked up a used one for around $100. I looked at using hard foam insulation board but it got too expensive. The plywood was my cheapest option and I get to use my tools and crapentry skills

I would probably spray the inside of the box with a sealer to keep the cardboard from deteriorating. I think you can still get shellac at the local home stores. That is about the best still available here in Cali.

Well worth the minimal investment, can be taken apart easy, packed up in a duffel bag until next harvest, minimal intake and exhaust ran properly will make it fool proof if your casa/lung room is typically at the temps you indicated💯

I’m not here to rep anything either. Just saying what I have figured out over the years.

Peace out,

LJ

I built a dryer from cardboard, computer fans and window screens. It worked well for my purposes. I don't have big crops, though. I stopped using it and use a tent now.

Pipe did you buy strained plywood?

Wouldn't it be better if it were dark and non-reflective, like a flat black? Also, there is paint that resists mold. Other than that, I don't know much about it. My guess is a primer would be sufficient.
Yes, black maybe better I didn't think about that, clean was what I was thinking and it should be pretty dark inside with sealed edges in my cold dark basement. Its a bit of an over kill monstrosity, I think 1/2 size would fit most of my grows

Carver is a builder for real, he enjoy's bud building, Bud builder of the Month contest winner. I am going to buy a drying tent but am afraid I will grow in it, Ha, I'm a grow freak and got some Rasberry Boogie BX1 yesterday, I can't stop! Help Moe! SS

I know it's not the answer PC is looking for but +3 on using a cheap or used grow tent for drying.
My old grow tent found new life for storage and drying. They're damn near perfect for this use with all the vent hole and bars up top to clip sock drying racks onto them. I also use a pretty good air purifier to move and circulate clean air around the drying fruit

What I'm looking for is something to control the temperature in a small space. My humidifiers and dehue's can keep my RH in check but the temp specially in summer months is hard if not impossible to get down to 62f. A small wine fridge would work but they are too small for my 6 plant harvests. I have zippo refrigeration experience so tinkering with old fridges to remove the compressors is out of my comfort zone as well.

The real trick is not to have plants drying or flowering in the summer months, if I could figure out how to veg only through July & Aug I wouldn't need much cooling any ways. Should be simple.....right?.....

If a plant you’ve grown before you can count it backwards and plan but new ones you’ll have to guesstimate.

I have the same issue but no box. I use the refrigerator and paper bags. Or the basement shower with a usb clip fan.

I’d love a wine fridge but not for $180.
