can anyone tell me if this is mold or rot root

this is on 6ish year old cedar hedges that started turning brown and dying last year.
healthy until they weren't.
started with 1 and then spread to the next and next etc.
any ideas?

Impossible for me to say but it maybe beneficial mycorrhiza fungi

i cut them down and dug up the roots to look

but it's killing the trees though

Wish i could help more man but you need a microscope and someone who can identify it. Others maybe able to tell you from experience

thanks but no. unless i missed it, nothing there says anything about the tree turning brown and dying, that pic was of the roots.
