Any of ya'll had any experience with Hello Fresh meals or something similar? I'm pretty interested in the ease and variety.

Doing the math, it won't cost much more, if at all, than what we already spend on groceries. First 8 weeks is damn cheap. I could cancel after that if it doesn't seem worth it to continue.

I was slightly curious about that but any meals "like that" I'm skeptical of the quality.

I have one friend and he really seems to enjoy it. He's been using it for over a year now. Just wanted a few more opinions before I bite the bullet.

i never tried it myself but i too have friends that do, they compliment them pretty much and they eat out quite often at places way above my spending limits so they won't eat "junk food" and they bought from hello fresh from at least a dozen times that i know of over the past year or so.

i like the idea of getting the detail components with the meal that i probably wouldn't normally buy just to get a little bit to make the dish perfect.

Yeah the recipe cards will come in handy too. Save the ones you like and eventually drop your subscription and shop for what you need.

I'm just so indecisive with nearly every aspect of life that has options. Everything weighs out the same to me because I'm programmed to be a devil's advocate. This is what interests me the most. I can eat pretty much anything at least once, so it'll be nice havong someone else make the meal choices for us.

Any thing dipped in mango chutney is delicious and candied ginger added to something will change your perception of the dish. It is fun to take whatever 'mainstream' thing you get additional pleasure from the experience.

Ive heard good things about Factor meals.

My parents get them and say they are delicious.

Ive gotten the hello fresh offers in the mail but ive never gotten anything, so if you do let us know how it is man !

We did hello fresh for a couple months.

Quality was good.

Expect a 45 minute job every time you cook. Then cleanup. Wife and I used it as almost a date night and it was nice in that aspect. Sometimes 45 minutes of chopping and clean up is a bit much tho after a long day. 4x a week seemed to be our sweet spot.

I got a little sick of onions in everything. Lots of salt too. Itā€™s not exactly health food although better than what most Americans eat.

Yes to the meal balance, but is it nutrient solid? I live in a coastal "Food Desert" here in Tejas and I have very few choices under $10 a meal. SS

Quality advice. Can you leave out the onions or are they pre-mixed into things?

Fresh meals are for those that canā€™t boil fucking water without burning the pan, lol
We can cook easily enough. My wife just isn't very adventurous. I used to cook a lot more but she's a stay at home mom and when I get home she uses cooking dinner as a way to get a break from our toddler. She does well enough, just lacking any variety and creativity. Not to say my meals were any more creative.

You can leave them out. All veggies are fresh, you chop and add.

I can understand why people use the service. Just not for me. Cooking isnā€™t hard and I donā€™t mind it. My wife is a pretty good cook too. Anyway, I was just being my smart ass self in my previous post.

yeah I get you.

What is cool about the service is all the ingredients are there. No shopping. No running to the grocery store because you need a little sour creme that then will go bad in the fridge when you only use 2 tablespoons and the rest of the tub just sits there.

Cooking at home to this level (not sure if you have seen the recipes, there are lots of interesting ingredients we never pick up at the store) would also be a huge exercise in shopping and ultimately food waste. It definitely has it's place.

No worries, my dude. I'm not easily offended.

I've heard HF is a pretty good deal. I can cook, so I'm not going to try them, but it's probably a good intro to cooking skills.

I imagine you'd eventually move on when you realize you can do it yourself and adjust things to your own personal preferences.

I feel the trying to escape the toddler thing. My kid does it to whoever is in the kitchen cooking. His new gig is to drag a chair over to the sink, throw his hot wheels in the sink then one by one empty the strainer by throwing the clean stuff in the dirty sink. It's a whole job with this kid šŸ˜‚

My neighbor with new family and wealth subscribes to several of these services for all of their groceries. HF is one, another sends them ugly fruits and veggies that are good but maybe not as pretty as the produce at Whole Foods, and he's had several meat subs like Butcher Box.

He's given me referral coupons to try before I buy and they're okay IMO. Cool to learn how to cook and work your way around a kitchen if you're new to cooking.
The local supermarket also has ready prepped meals that are similar and they're good too so there's a huge market for these things.

The one that stood out was the ugly produce because they may not be pretty but they were really good. That ser5vice was called Imperfect Foods and they do more than produce but I only had the produce.

The meat from Butcher Box was a pass. I've been gifted other meat subs in the past too but never renew and a lot of times that meat just ended up in a chili. Steak quality would be around the quality of a place like Applebees or Chilis. Nowhere close to prime and barely choice grade.

Thing about me is I can be super picky about things. Mostly meat and certain veggies and fruit so I'm hard to please with somebody choosing for me.
Sometimes I'll have groceries delivered if I have a coupon but never ask them to pick my beef or avocados because I'm so picky about them and I've seen how they choose for people at the store where they just grab the item with no inspection. I like to see the marbling of beef, squeeze the avocados, smell the fish, and look at the bottom of the clear plastic berry tubs to make sure there's nothing bad in there and they don't do any of that.

You could probably turn that picky train of thought into a nice food delivery business for like minded people "bandits choice picks" type thing...surely there is a market for these meals to be more authentic feeling and less like a Schwann's service

Yo schwans delivers to like 5 people here in the park lol.
The only thing ive ever ordered from is Horizon Foods and ill never buy again.
I got filet mignons, pork chops, and sea bass, it was all kinda tough and seemed old, not very fresh.

My buddy used to have this guy stop in who sold steaks out of his truck, had a refrigerated truck deal...too thin of steaks for my liking, some looked sandwich sliced lol

Thats the same thing.
This dude drives a little white Toyota Tacoma with a freezer/refer cap on the bed.

Like this^ lol.

I only got stuff because the guys son and my brother are in the Marine Corps together so he gave me his family discount lol.

Moe's reasoning seems to work with the food desert issue. I've heard good things about most of these services. The reports I've gotten is do it 4 days out of the week and cook like normal the rest.

My sister and BIL use it because they are busy and neither are particularly good cooks, but they can follow a recipe well enough. Eating out and take-out adds up quickly even if you do pretty well.
Meal planning does take effort, healthy meal planning takes even more
