A Turkey In The Hay 🦃

I wish I knew about it sooner it makes life easy! Does have a smell though, right when you light it

Another thing I'm going to try this year (haven't got it delivered yet) is that creosote powder, you throw two tablespoons in every other day, supposedly you don't get that thick gooy shit, it turns it to powder. My pipes are clean all the way up to the last foot or so where the thick goo accumulates at the cap, so hopefully it will minimize that
Ya we would just keep a cherry going on it when we used it for fire works like a big incense no actual flame.we barely have to clean our chimney.we have been burning 80% ash trees the last 5 or 6 years mabey longer.almost no creosote from it.

Might have to share that with mom, she gets hers cleaned every couple years.

We sweep it out twice a year anyway. That powder works good. You just throw it in the fire.keeps the creosote from forming that shiny glaze you cant sweep out.that glass that forms is tough to clean out without it .havnt needed it since the ash boar came through and killed all our ash trees.did the boar make it north to you guys yet?

Good to hear that re: the powder, all my problem is right up by the cap and I'm hoping the powder minimalizes that thick gooey build up

I'm also burning hot for an hour or two once a day now (500°- 600°stack temp) Before I'd sometimes keep the logs just smoldering for days rather than let it go out and light it again, particularly in the warmer fall and spring, and from what I understand that adds to the creosote buildup.

I've been testing my wood and the wettest I could find was just barely 16% and some of it is as dry as 10%, so it's all seasoned Hardwood

I'm waiting for the temperature to drop another degree before I light it up this morning. This might be the fire that burns till spring, its a lot easier than lighting it every night, but the 4th and 7th are supposed to be mid 50° so maybe not

Edit: just lit it, this might be the fire that burns till spring! 🤞🏻20251101_032122.jpg

I had to look up about the emerald ash borer but yes it is in Maine. I've burnt quite a bit of Ash but I hadn't been aware of, or looked to see if it was damaged. I'm not sure if I have Ash in this year's wood or not.

It killed all the ash here in indiana a real bummer. im grateful for the wood but i would rather have the trees.i have a little real nice black cherry I'm excited to burn this year. Do you have pine that you can cut your own fat lighter or have you been buying it.we dont have much pine here so I order it online.

Ya in the spring and fall a just light one fire at night or morning. 😂😅sometimes have to open the windows.i stir it once then let it burn out.then when its cool the next day i collect the char and filter out the ash. I can usualy get a whole bucket of char in the fall.i crush it all down and then charge it with microbes and liquid fertilizer in a tea. Spread it in the garden and in my soil mixes.the microbes use it like little storage units for water and nuitrients.

I have tons of pine on my property but I was under the impression that it was from a certain type pine tree and that it was down south?

My neighbor was burning a lot of pine last year but told me last week he's got six cords of Ash, and now that I think of it maybe he got it from somebody clearing out some dead trees? I'm going up for Thanksgiving so I'll ask him about it then.

I dump my burn bucket in the same place, have a small mountain of it out there after 4 years, I sift it once in awhile and grill on the lump. I have thrown some in the garden but the soil really don't need it.

I got some black cherry in a delivery of couple years ago but I have it put aside for the smoker

I'm pretty sure any pine can be used for fat lighter its a certain part of the logs were the branches come in and make knots.

I think it's from the stump right? For some reason I thought it was just a certain tree and it was only found in the south.

I know my neighbors got a lot of pine stumps, he's opening up some more of his backyard for horses, maybe I'll saw one off next time I'm up there

Edit: although looking at the fatwood box now it's probably at least 3 years worth of fires for 20 bucks so maybe I'll just use that up first

I looked it up, it's from certain places on pine trees the stump and at the bases of big branches. Interesting read, I never knew it existed til late last season, I'm very glad I found it makes life easy!

Since I moved here I've enjoyed standing at the end of my driveway early in the morning with a cup of coffee and a joint and just enjoying the silence, something I didn't have in the city.

It's relaxing looking up and down the road and seeing just trees and an occasional turkey

Used to talk with my neighbor who walked every morning, sadly he passed away earlier this year so now it's just me, the deer and some rooster somewhere who won't shut up out there now

I love Maine, I used to vacation here when I was young, at the beaches, Ogunquit, fished the Saco, then the late first wife and I started going to Cape Cod and the mountains of New Hampshire more often. Don't think I've been in Maine since the mid 80s

I still make it to Wells and Ogunquit every year. I will ride along the coast from York to Biddeford if the weather is allowable.
Unfortunately, now it is usually later in the year for my sister's memorial but it is still beautiful and touches my heart.
I commented after returning this year that Maine just makes me feel like I can be a better person.
Every year I never know if it will be the last year I stay in her cottage on the beach or not.
I believe there will be 2 more years before my BIL sells the cottage.

I don't know why but my body clock has always hated the time change, particularly the fall-back change

I don't know when to eat, when to have my 2:00 a.m. coffee because it's not really 2:00 a.m., so how can I have my 2:00 a.m. coffee now?

It's always been an issue. I thought they were going to stop this nonsense a few years ago? 😡

It's always sad when we have to abandon places with fond memories like that

Yes, Ontario sprays an has a program to deal with them. How successful it is I don’t know. We’ve been losing trees to the Asian longhorn beetle too.

I still grow cannabis too! 😂🤣😂

As soon as I can get the little one in the middle to catch up I'm flipping to 12/12, likely in another week or two.
You’re ahead of me. My four are staggered over a two week period due to plans changing. Trying to get them closer together in size. Might have to split into two tents earlier than planned.

Still going! This could be the one that burns till spring, added the last split at 6:00 a.m. cuz it's going to hit 60° today

Screenshot_20251103_061605_Weawow.jpg

Gonna rekindle it at sundown, if I can't then tonight's fire will be the one!

We have another 50° day Saturday but I probably would just keep it going then.

This is big for me, it's like a druid and an equinox, I've saved a picture of every fire I've lit that burned until the spring since fall of 22! (I dont know why?)

Just noticed a little bit of painting I want to get done today, few other things to put away and winterize, so I'm about done

with a fan blowing across the coils it should cool my box and with a drip pan I should be able to turn off and on to cool with a timer or thermometer, I have timers. Humidity may be an issue but a small dehue might help, I have one, it ain;t worth shit in a large space but in a 3x3 box it may do. I just want to run this past you before I buy off amzone1762190970193.png

It's 80° in here 🥵

41° out, 46° for a high today

Wind gusts 45 to 50 mph 🍂

Light snow possible early Friday

Creosote remover came yesterday but I haven't used it yet cuz there's not enough of a fire going now

Heating with wood is about balance, the first year all I did was set off smoke detectors, and not just one, sometimes half the house 🤣

Rekindled, I think this is the one that's going to burn till spring!! 🥳🥂🍾View attachment 117617
Sadly I don't think this is my permanent fire, I'm letting it go out now and it's going to be mid 50s Saturday so....😕 This is the latest I've ever lit my permanent fire.

Just got back from voting, I was aware of two questions I didn't know there was a third 🤣 so I didn't brint my glasses but I got through it

The first two questions were the important ones anyway, #1 offered some reform of the *clown show that is voting in Maine (*rank choice, no ID, mail-in ballots etc.)

The second question was a gun grab.

Did you see on the national news (the Mockingbird media probably didn't tell you) somebody got 250 blank ballots in their Amazon Order a few weeks ago here in Maine 😡 They were right in the freaking box!

Thank God she reported it although nothing will ever come from it, not with the level of corruption in our current government but at least now we know one of the many ways they're cheating.

I hope you got power back.
Supposed to get 60 mph winds today and the warnings here are out.

Thanks, be safe today! The wind flipped over a work table in the yard!

I woke up about 11:30 and the power had been on for a while, but here's something you don't hear everyday

well actually two things

1) my TV set won't turn back on, it died when the power went out last night. Happened before but I was able to get it to eventually turn on by plugging it in over and over till the power light came on and stayed on but it won't do that now. Walmart's delivering a new one today 🙂

It's an old flat screen I bought when they first came out so that's not that weird but listen to this....

2) So I hung a battery operated Lantern horizontally from my grow light to keep the cycle for the cannabis plants. I looked at them this morning and several of the leaves had withered and died and there was this nasty white gook on some other leaves

Apparently a battery in the lamp had leaked from sitting from last winter. It had dripped straight down onto a plant but fortunately it didn't hit any grow tips just a few leaves which have since been removed

I was scratching my head, I couldn't think what the hell happened but then I realized it had to have something to do with the light that had been hanging right above it and when I opened it sure enough one of the ends of the battery leaked

🤣 👈🏻 this is why I use the manical laughing icon all the time, because if I didn't I'd just freaking scream! 😡😫😡 I'd rather laugh at it all

So I'm thinking my TV's not coming today, it was almost 4:30 so I call Walmart and they say it's coming tomorrow, just as I was about to cancel it and go there I got a text message that they're 3 minutes away

unfortunately the bottom of my road is still torn up like it's been since early September because the bridge they are installing to control the flooding isn't ready to be installed or something, freaking city planner here is terrible I voted against him but he won by a small margin, people having to make the 9 Mile Loop twice a day to go to work for the last Almost 2 months aren't very happy I can tell you that

anyway the poor girl had to drive a 9 Mile loop around the lake, I could see the little car icon on the app they sent me so I doubled her tip for the inconvenience

I set the TV up with a Little Help from the customer service phone number that came with the TV and it's a beautiful picture, I really like it so far, just $88 for a 32" TV !!!

Now I can freaking relax for the first time since this nonsense started last night with a beer and a joint and watch some TV

I don't think I'll ever let mine grow as big as yours are in veg again. I mistakenly flipped my last girls at 3 weeks old / 25 days from seed. They have grown out great, 3 weeks is a bit too young me thinks, but I used to go 6 weeks minimum, I think 4-5 weeks will be max veg time for me now.
These are almost 8 weeks from the seedling stage, I'm thinking I'll flip them Saturday cuz I don't want them too tall. I grew them from this same breeder for a few years in the '90s, White Rhino's wanna be short & bushy indoors.

Nice and healthy, I love the green. They look to be a good size to flip now, I was pleasantly surprised at how well my 25 day vegged plants ended up. 1 Alaska Thunderfuck still reached my lights. The others were perfect for height I could have used a bit more mass on a few in split pots but I think it was root struggles that stunted them with the roots of 2 plants interacting together. Better root isolation would have prevented that I think.

I'm taking your advice & flipping today, they'll come on tonight at 10:00 p.m. and go off tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. I run lights during the coldest part of the day

I like to run my lights when I'm awake and those hours of yours don't cut it for me. I tried it once but nope I let everything go to shit, no time to work on them or to sit and watch them grow...lol. I look at my girls 5-6-7-8 times per day, Its also warm enough for them at night for them it only gets down to 67f. I have to add heat with lights on. The lights themselves and my house heat only get to 73-74f I bump that up to 78 f with a heater or reptile lamp in my veg tent.
