Maybe it only last a week, was thinking if I ran it on a programmable timer it could help make it last longer?

Now I just need to figure a container to rig up to support plant and hold the fog/mist

it should work for you.
wire a PC fan with it or something and put it on a timer or hook to a Rh controller to turn it on and off at set humidity.
should last just fine. making the box will be a lil work, but nothing bad i can't imagine.
