I grew two of these out. One was a Jack Herer pheno and this one is a super gassy purple one. The only thing is it has this musty smell behind the gas. I have broke open so many buds and have found no hint of mold. Could there be mold that I can’t see or is it the terpenes? It’s fire but it worries me a little. What are talk thought? TIA

I know that aroma and yeah same thing, I'll start looking for mold that's not there.
I think it's a combination of water activity maybe being above 15% when you want it around 10-12% after drying and natural terps and degradation happening while drying and curing.
Initially over drying and using something that has humidity control locked up like Boveda or Grove bags for the cure will in a way, rehydrate to the proper range and eliminate that aroma leaving you with raw terps. The buds will often have very little aroma while intact but once broken up, unleash a wrath of stinky stank like opening up a dirty diaper.

To be 100% certain it's not mold, I use a UV light or blacklight and shine it on the buds while they're intact and after breaking them up. If you see anything glowing with the light on it, that's mold. No glow, it's safe.

Do you keep track of RH in jars?
No, I slow dry, whole plant over two or three weeks as close 60 degrees/60% humidity as possible. Then I trim and put in grove bags for a few months. I recently just put some of this in jars to smoke on. This one is actually a little dryer than the others.

Ive never seen mold or had an issue on any of my stuff. I have a lot of plants grown under my belt. I did recall one bud that had some visible mold one one cola which was removed and thats it. Out of thousands of plants. I don't thin this area really has a problem with it. But you never know!

Yeah man these were all cured in grove bags and just put into jars to smoke recently.

I'll have to get a UV or black light! So I am assuming that mold will glow like white T-shirts and teeth in a club with black lights?

Yep, that's exactly how they work.
I use this one in the link and it works great for weed but it also makes dry body fluid glow so you can use it to find stains and see just how clean a hotel room might be and if my cats or dogs get a wound I can shine it on them to make sure the wound isn't a fungal infection like ringworm.

Agree and i think its bacteria related not mold or mildew. Even though mold or fungus would be most likely.

Does it have more of a rotting smell maybe like vinegar?
