Harvest hero perlite.

So ive had a bag of harvest hero perlite in my shed all summer. I just went in and opened it up and it smells like straight ammonia....
Why the hell would the be?? If i washed it all would it be safe to use still?
Ive never had perlite that smells like ammonia and this stuff is supposed to be a 0-0.57-0.57 npk so idk what it could be.

did a cat piss on it? i could see perlite soaking that up. otherwise i have no idea what it would be, and wouldn't trust rinsing it prior to use.

That was my first thought too. But its not possible unless the cat took the tape off the tote it was it and then put the lid and tape back on.

Yeah i just got done ordering more.
I just ran like 50 gallons of water through all that perlite. Now im taking it out to the garden to mix it in lol.

I ordered the size 4 mother earth perlite. Hopefully its not too big, but either way itll work.
I wanted pumice but its 3x the price...

Id rather take my chances with hydro using tap water than growing outside again... its such a waste of time up here.

Yeah im going back and forth about next year. Really leaning towards just focusing on a veggie garden and forget the pot plants outside.

I cant put plants in my yard cause the landlord doesnt want anything outside. She doesnt care if anyone grows inside since we own the trailer, but absolutely nothing can be seen outside.

Really wish i knew what caused 3 cubic feet of perlite to smell like ammonia shen its been in a sealed tote for 6 months. Its a damn shame.
