Heya!

Figured this could be a cool thread. I know many of y'all aren't strictly cannabis fans, and grow a bunch of other random stuff too. With that being said, whatchu got?!

Right now, we have a small collection of pathos, a snake plant, a calathea, a money tree, a ficus, and some cacti that are at the other house (will get pics posted later). nevermind the mess on the table. kids + moving has everything in a bit of disarray atm.

Started some lavender, a Russian mammoth sunflower some morning glories and sweet pepper!

And my lemon balm I shaved a few days ago and it blew right back.

youre the man tobh, i was doing some research on sourcing them and the RIGHT(?) kind.

im loving growing my own meds
papaver somniferum is what you want. turkish red has the highest morphine content, followed by danish flag. the peshawar are higher in thiamine and codeine. they work really well with my lady's menstrual cramps, whereas i prefer the turkish red for my lower back pain.

if you haven't yet, do a ton of research on making tea. not sure if you've ever ODed on opiates, but it's not fun, and it's very possible with tea. there's almost zero way to ensure consistent dosing across the pods and stalks, so it's one of those things that you dose low and increase until you get to where you want to be vs like, taking two points of molly because you know your body can handle it.

are you taking those with you, harvesting, =( killing them ?

do you clone them or just seed?

those are actually pics from a few years back. this year the birds got to all my seed before they could germinate.

you can't clone poppies, nor should you try to transplant them. you need to broadcast sow them in the late winter as they require stratification to germinate. the problem with that is, birds eyes are ridiculously sharp and they can spot those tiny specs all over the ground. to them, they think you're giving them gifts. to you, the birds are the fucking devil lol

thanks for the brain food

you can also sow them in the fall, but i've not tried that. with that particular year, i let ~50% of the pods open fully and self seed. the following year i had some volunteers but not many. this year i haven't seen any. when you let the pods open fully, that's when potency of the alkaloids starts to divebomb too. the goal is to either harvest latex right before the pods start to open, or harvest the full stalks at that time.

non-obligatory disclaimer: in the US, scoring poppy pods to harvest latex is a felony offense and will land you in jail for conspiracy to manufacture and/or manufacturing a controlled substance. growing poppies as an ornamental is legal. harvesting any parts of the plant for human consumption is not.

also, be mindful that the damn things look like weeds when they sprout. like, dandelions or milkweed. so it can be difficult to know what's what, and they don't do well with competing big taproot plants, like dandelions and milkweed. the tell-tale sign you have what you think is 1. knowing what their leaves look like and 2. the weird alien head looking flower buds.

Poppy tea is a favorite of mine. I usually dry them in bulk and then grind them all into a homogenous powder to use for tea. Easier to make a consistently dosed tea that way.

yo, what's with those small brown spots? i thought you don't play that 😜
No such thing as a perfect lawn bruh hahaha. I'm not sure what the one black spot in the pic is, not there in real life.. but the black plate you see on the lawn in front of my wife got hot in the sun and killed a perfectly round spot lol. 😅
