Looking forward to it. I’ve still got some forest earth in a tote. I’ve sprayed it two or three times to keep it a bit damp.

I haven’t done the rice basket yet but it’s on the list. I noticed you didn’t dig a hole or bury it like others. You find just sitting it on top of a cleared area is good enough? I’ve got a crate I can use as a cage but no basket…keeping an eye open but things like small peach baskets are all replaced with plastic or coated cardboard.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. 🍿

I have better results getting fungal collections when I put it on top of the soil and dont disturb the mycelium connections
. Below soil collections always gives me Bacterial collections.not the microbes I'm looking for.im not sure if its lack of air flow or moisture but they never turn out good when I bury them.

I’ll try this method then. Trying to dig into that old forest roots was a pita. Took forever to fill the shopping bag with dirt. Lol

I was wondering if I could use the forest earth I brought home to do this rice method? Or have I changed things by digging it up and bringing it home? I haven’t seen any insects in the earth but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

Here is a video on taking indoor collections

That was the first video I watched. I asked you a few questions based on it before I went to get the forest earth. I don’t have enough soil in the tote to do that which was why I was wondering if your method would work in the tote.

Something I could test over the winter I guess. Hard parts finding space to do it in the house.

You should be able to get a collection from the tote.i couldn't remember if I shared that video or not. Bonus points for collecting soil and leaf mold from multiple spots.

I would like to go back to my spot and get more soil from a better site. It’s a valley that had rich dark earth rather than the brown rooty stuff I got from the cedars.

Last time I went it wasn’t a secret spot any more. 6-8 cars when we got there early in the morning. Lots of hikers. Some with dogs off leash. Leaving an hour later and there was over 20 cars an you couldn’t drive side by side as they parked all over the road sides.

Before Covid you might see five cars there all day, a few more on a long weekend.

Collections went good,I had a little bacteria growth on one collection .but for the most part good.View attachment 114480View attachment 114481

I always love seeing when you've have a new post up. It's always interesting stuff.

Beautiful photo, but, as a silly note: When I first saw it, this plant, or whatever it is, caught my attention. It reminded me of a hand reaching up out of the water. Like someone didn't use enough rocks to weigh down a body, lol.

That is so cool

Purple buble pop. By Kobe,s organics.friday will be week 6. There are 7 plants in there.the mother was left in the middle.6 clones on the outside, with different amounts of tops on them.i think one clone is the main top not topped at all. He has been doing a top dress after every run in the 30 gallon pots with something from build a soil and his canabiss leaf and stem bokashi compost. He does the bokashi with the indigenous microbe teas instead of the lactobacillus. mulching with the stems from previous grows.the rice hulls have been drying out the soil to bad .gona stop useing them for mulch. He gives them my liquid home made knf fertilizers every 3rd watering .foiliar and watered in .and a imo4 tea every 2 or 3 weeks.the top dress has realy helped .when you can get the top layer of soil nuitrient cycleing good and fast it unlocks something special that you cant get with just the liquid nutes as feed. We have been putting avacoda pieces down after top dress.it brings up all the predator mites ,red worms and isopods, and rove beatles.everything gets super active at the top of the soil....
