Pay it forward (Wanted/Offering)

good luck with that. WFH is attainable, but i speak from experience -- watching kids and being a code monkey don't mix. hell, i get into some complex shit and literally the second i get into flow state, i have a child banging on my office door for snacks or help mediating a sibling battle. and my lady won't go to work because kush life.
Experience speaks volumes.

Definitely agree.

I'm ADD enough as it is, and then I gotta stop to take care of 17mo

i dropped out the beginning of senior year and was in college by christmas. high school was bullshit.
Yeah I was definitely a young teenage degenerate(play games beat your meat and smoke weed lol, all I wanted to do was stay in my room and fuck the outside world) but I definitely obviously love to learn, Atleast shit that I care about.

Public school is fucking trash and teach an agenda it seems, Atleast they have these text books that say this and that is fact but actually it's based on theories.

like Egypt for example, we don't actually know how old they are(pyramids /sphinx afaik) yet those history books say they are this old, and do not present the other side of the arguments
And of course "they" don't want to go back and rewrite them.
Kinda pisses me off.

i'm the same way. reading tutorials and shit don't work for me. it's the attention to detail that's teh killer -- you want to know why but the why doesn't matter in programming. at least, not outside of academic computer science. every "learn to program" book takes that approach, and it doesn't work. breaking down a problem to the what is much more approachable.

for instance. i need this sensor communicate with a central collector that will aggregate teh data and make it consumable to me in a pretty graph. distill it down to i need a client to communicate with a server and send data asynchronously. the server needs to stay alive and receive connections. we'll use UDP protocol as the transport protocol as losing some data isn't going to swing our overall stats heavily.

so let's build a simple udp server and client.

kk that's done, let's move to the server side. the server receives data but doesn't give a shit about it because it has nowhere to dump it. tap postgresql. structured data like this is perfect for a relational database. stand up a database.

now you need an api to make sure teh data lands where it should so the processing can happen. this is a simple API, we're just dumping data from a sensor into a database but we need it organized.

api built. now let's leverage something like grafana to ingest that data and make our pretty graphs. leverage existing technology, you just align the tables and column names with what you want to see and bam. solution to a problem.

filling in the gaps with code and some careful thought becomes much easier when you eliminate the "i have this thing that does 0 and 1 and translating to hello_world() doesn't make sense."
And I definitely need to know the why, I suppose it's apart of my learning process.

So maybe it's like a mental barrier, I will keep trying and spend more time with it when I do have time do shit

Shit always crazy when moving, as you just went through/are.

history is written by the scribe.

text books are approved by a school board which is comprised of parents of the community those schools reside in.

this is why we're seeing schools teaching lessons from the bible now.

separation of church and state has dissolved, and the moment i hear my children are having christianity or biased opinions shoved down their throats as truth, i may end up on the news because of my overly aggressive and direct verbal assault on every teacher and "official" seat shilling that garbage.

facts are facts -- they're indisputable. stories and tales are different and the bible is just that -- a fucking story book.

early on with programming, forget teh why. you'll figure out the why later. you must work backwards, and that's what fucks up programming education. as you get into it, take whatever at face value, don't question it. the why will come through later, and you won't realize you understand why until you're doing something and it'll be like "oh yeah, i was hella fucked up that one time and that happened so i don't do that anymore."

Thanks for contextualizing that

Well read

Nothing worse than debugging your code and you're getting close to finding the issue then......Daaaaaaddeee.........fuck😵‍💫

I want one of those.

Top ppm bottom pH?

Nice
Your missing the point of the picture. All these probes have just bean freshly calibrated are in the same water but are 1not reading the same. They are a expensive probe imo and i expected better.

The auto doser reads ph at 5.5 and is different than the others, which one should be used?

Lmao, how did I miss that, sleep deprivation maybe.

Ok that's a problem for me, those are a little pricey for that performance.

The average one?

@smoke

The autodoser, it's the odd one "in"

And those 3 are obviously disagreeing with each other, lol.

I know I'm the odd one out who doesn't use blue lab, but I'm a student on a budget.

Ph controller and EC reader with mechanical adjustments for $80 is hard to beat, especially when it's easy to make reliable with a small upgrade.
sounds good to me, im a stay-at-home-dad rn lol

That WF? Episode explains the Egyptians and pyramids. Power plants. No one has ever found a mummy IN a pyramid. 🤔

Been a few years. Now I miss it…and don’t code anymore.

As I’ve learned over the years, so are most school books. Todays facts are tomorrows fiction as often as it goes the other way.

With LAR and other tech we know more than we ever did. But it’s not being shown openly to the public.

Same goes for all the space discoveries. Why do I have to search engines and YouTube to learn about new things and separate BS or crazy shit from fact?

At some point over the last 3-4 decades we switched gears. Stopped growing. Discouraged thinking outside the box and punished or discredited the ones that did/do.

Hmm…getting long…

IIRC the South American pyramids or temples have also been found to be old power stations.

Others placed around the world too.

Then you consider how many times a WEE has occurred…

Every September-November is a dice roll. Doesn’t bother me as I can’t change it and it’s not happening today. Not sticking my head in the sand but even I don’t worry about that stuff.

Interesting times. What happened to the Age of Enlightenment?
