i need to grow some new life in this thread... got some new seeds today..

003.JPG

got a couple others of Anesia from B2ACG and some gifted from SSHZ to add in the mix and get this show going.. i wanna have the next batch growing on my birthday in a couple weeks!!!

it's gonna be tight with getting whats in there out and starting over,, this round has gone in the pooper and i'm not sure what i'll even get from it, i feel i'm just wasting time and electricity so they'll only be in there for this weekend yet probably.. i'm ready to just get on with the new soil. something i mixed in there or maybe just because it was the fourth round with that soil but i fucked something up with my additives..

so i'm just gonna do a reboot... not sure how many plants yet. not as many though.. i want bigger ones so i need bigger pots so that means less than 16. a half inch bigger on the container and i can only fit nine. i'd rather have just nine nice plants than 16 small ones,,, i tried it out a few times and i want to go back.

with these new moisture sensors i might give the airpots a go again!!!!

BTW, i really like the ecowitt sensors!! i trust the so much already i haven't lifted a pot in weeks now.

Nice. I need to pick something and get started.

Feel your pain bud. Lost half to males, then mold/rot. Haven’t finished or weighed yet but about 3oz from the good one. The other is pending inspection. I’ve been over it with a black light but want better eyes checking too.

Agreed, less is more in count sometimes. Made a lot of changes for this next run so I want to keep it simple. Outside test went well even if mother nature didn’t cooperate.

Jelly on the sensors. You and Oldcrow will be laughing this next go around.

yeah, you starting some soon too?

if my plan comes together i'd like to drop seeds next sunday.. thats a big if.. still working out the details in my head and i need to do some measuring but i should be about to at least get started in a week!!

i think i wanna go with my airpots early on again. nothing in stone and i have no idea about container size.. nothing like having seeds needing homes to get my butt moving!! haha

.

i mowed the lawn, maybe even the last mow of the year.. not sure yet.. spots are turning red.. i could smell the stentch coming from my lonely outdoor plant. this was one that was doomed for death in the hydro system..

weed within the weeds...

Ya by the end of the month I want to pop seeds in the VG before it gets too cold.

I have a hot water tank I need to replace and I’m concerned it won’t be able to get out through the grow room. Making me drag my feet. I still have a week or two…right? 🤣

Gas or electric? Assuming it's leaking or just too far gone to just replace the elements, if it's electric?

mutha f'in hot water heater!!! best of luck with that!!!!

.

i'm pretty much ready drop seeds, thats my easy part. that only takes ten minutes to set up... i'm not sure exactly what i want ti do container wise. the smart angel side says go with the 1 gallons... the devil side on my shoulder says fuck that go back to airpots you fool!!

even still though i have another four or five days to figure it out once i drop the seeds. they're both really easy for me to grab and get ready. so i get to take work or laziness out of the equation.

if i go traditional i will use the ecowitt.. if i go airpot it will be my SIP setup. currently leaning airpot 70/30... i may go two upcans this round.

Gas.

It’s a 20+ year old rental model that hasn’t worked right in 10+ years. It looks like some of the burners have rusted out and no longer work. Like a propane bbq. Hot water only lasts long enough for a shower. Turns cold before a bath is 100% full.
IMG_6365.jpeg

We keep the area clean and I vacuum the inside bottom once a year. Not even cobwebs. I vent the gasses and blow out sediment a few times a year as well.

Need to deal with the gas company now and get this crap out of the house. Buy a new one. Not sure what’s best atm.

Sounds like someone had an issue in the past. 🤔

My moms had two blow out on her over the years. We only had one leak and two just fail after a year. This was the third replacement that lasted a while before it acted up.

We had gas at our last place. I miss it. I've had to replace both. I remember looking at the whole house on-demand natural gas heaters when as a replacement, years ago. At the time, they were just starting to gain traction adn were pricey. I liked that they took up less space and were more efficient. Are those still around or was it just an idea that has faded away?

We haven’t really looked. Did a few online checks at homedepot and Rona. On demand is what I’m interested in. Get rid of the tank that’s always being heated especially in winter.

Had one in house for 8 years no difference in gas bill went back to tank. If you dont have space the on demand is great. Lots depends on length of water run with the on demand you have to let the water run till it heats up then you have hot water till you shut tap.

i buy the cheapos.. they come with a five year warrantee and last six years!! i've even made a smoker out of two them!!! hahaha

i wish i had a pipe with gas coming out of it at my house. my only way to get a big tank and have it delivered. it's just not cost effective.

Any benefit of going one way over the other?

the airpots form much nicer roots preparing them flower upcans and more even growth. depending on the size of airpots i might have to upcan twice. i might have to upcan twice in regular pots too though because of the sizes i have on hand.

i was thinking of maybe using the bigger the airpots along with the ecowitt to stay on top of the watering, maybe try out the alerts features on that.. this would allow me to only upcan once.

i have them all in one big pile under my table downstairs, i'll pull them out and seperate them and see what sizes and how many of what i have. i need bare minimum nine but would love to have twelve to start. gonna flower nine out this round in either buckets or my seven gallon pots, i think they both hold about the same amount of volume, just shaped different. i remember the size airpot i had sucked for upcanning in bucket but those 7 gallon trade pots and wider and might benefit from it, i gotta line em up. i know i cut all those airpots down to make them smaller so with my luck i'll be zip tying them all back together this weekend!!! hehe

the genetics however is gonna be a total impulse thing or coin flip.. i plan to lay out like ten packs in front of me and choose four!!! and then maybe give one a second glance and switch it out and then go naaahh and switch it back... hahahaha

plan A:

i remember the problem now.. only one top row of solid holes..

003.JPG

so i'm gonna try to fill two more rows... i guess i'll try hot glue.

what would you guys try?

so where i'm at now.. i have all twelve, six are a good size and six are small...

002.JPG

backstory.. those red bottoms are the very first prize i ever won in a forum.. guess who was the contest guy was there.. yep, Bandit!! hehe he sent me those airpots and the other six were from bigger ones i cut down a while ago.. i saved the pieces so they just require two screws now.. it's okay i have a whole bag of the nader zip itz!!! haha

005.JPG004.JPG

i think this combo with the 7 gallon final pots will work well, leaving enough room for the upcan. i also already have risers and drip pans to match..

007.JPG

the only thing stopping me is if i can't get those holes to plug!!! i wonder if those foam ear plugs would work? i gotta see how much a few hundred of those things cost!!

It’s blocking the furnace but is mostly out of the way. The addition already takes a few extra minutes to get hot water to the kitchen. So something to take into consideration for sure.

Would garden fabric glued to the inside make it easier? Why do you need the top row(s) filled/blocked?

Top two rows should be solid for watering. If not lots of water will run off the top of dry dirt before it gets wet enough to soak up.
Another idea would be to clog the holes with screws those guys with 3D printers make hundreds of.;slap
I got air pots that have the top two rows solid. Bandit said I did good finding the real deal ones.;budi

I was wondering about this issue
I made my soil plane somewhat concave and use a halo to try to keep the water/nutrient contained in a vertical cylinder that starts about 2.5” out from the center (stalk).

This is my first rodeo using halos so we’ll see if my idea is a winner or not here real soon!

I recently bought one of those cheap plastic welding kits from Harbor Freight to repair a shoot from a mower deck to the bagger. It worked great for that. Next up it a wheelbarrow with a plastic tub that's cracked. Kit came with plastic sticks (rods) that you melt/weld into whatever you're working on. Also screen mesh that you wled in for support on large repairs. Also has these staple like pieces that you melt in to strengthen and hold a crack together and then patch over. Amazon sells them, too.

Backer rod is dirt cheap.

thats a good idea man, the holes slightly vary a bit in size, i looked in garage but the stuff i have is too small, had me thinking though what about just caulk?

Would garden fabric glued to the inside make it easier? Why do you need the top row(s) filled/blocked?

no i need it to be water tight, at least semi water tight...

More work cutting to fit but I use swimming noodles for projects.

i've used them quite a bit as well!!!

i bought all the ones i had a long time ago and they all have just one row solid.. i had bought them directly from the mfg and it was only a couple months after Bandit gave me those so they only did one row back then.

i thought of the 3d printer option.. too much pita and trial and error compared to the other options..

Tom it's been your recent grow with airpots that had me wanting to use them again. i used halos in the past and they worked really good for them. they water nice and slow allowing the water to soak in before channeling out a side hole.

thts a solid idea man, i happen to have a pretty good welder here.. my down side is to that is all the cleaning required to get to fresh material to get it to stick. they're pretty thin too so might be tricky to not melt or warp... best permanent idea though!!! though i think all that would take more time to set up and do than it would to just water them slow!!! haha

.
so far i'm leaning the ear plugs.. got 400 of them coming for less than $20,,, i tried one out last night and it took about 4 seconds for one.. i have about 372 holes to fill... if it takes me 5 seconds a piece thats only a half hour for all.. i have a feeling it will take twice that time!! haha

Oh, man! I wasn't realizing how may holes you have to fill. The weld thing would take a while, if it even worked. Hope the ear plugs work out. Sounds good in my head. So, you're probably fucked 🤣.

Back in the seventies, in the OC before there was an OC, there was a commercial that used to show up that said, “spend a nickel, cover your pickle”.

Wasn’t a fast food commercial!

I was going to say make sure you push them out from the inside but forgot. It was kind of obvious though. 🤣

yea thats a hell of a mental image right there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha

What in the torpedo titties is going on around here?
Is that an airpot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I'm sure that will work great! Ladies I run with think so too!

thats my grandma you perv's!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha no it's not!!! hahaha

I thought you would install them from the inside to clog the hole.
**Meant to post this earlier when I wake and bake~!
I am with Zen on this...

they look like they're sticking out a bit or should i say a "nip" .. but really they're about half way through the plastic with the fat end on the inside.

It's an optical illusion~!
You did push them through from inside you sneaky devil.
;pass

hehehe.... yep, sure did. sat here when OP live came on and rolled em one by one and stuck em in there.

my only real concern is that some soil and roots work the back side loose but i think i should be okay. i'll just be careful when loading them up.

012.JPG

I saw he did which is why I said it was kind of obvious. It’s also how he got the nipply look. 🤣

i pinched them and slid em in, once i was done i gave each one a tug!!!!!!!

dirty dirty!!!!!
.
.
.

so i chose these four to drop tonight...

fruity pebbles
great white shark
skunk #1
roswell code

out with the old and in with the new!!!!!!

so my last round was terrible.. i really messed something up and even lost a couple plants along the way.. whats left is hanging...

001.JPG

so ready for a total reboot i decided to bring back out the airpots and bought some new soil. went with stonington blend and added crab meal and green aminos from greengro.. i premoistened the soil with some great white and decided to fill the containers up now and get the bennies growin for a few days.. also tossed in some nematodes for gnats and set in the ecowitt sensors...

005.JPG

i think i would like to revisit my halo setup and see how it goes... since getting the sensors i rarely watered more than one pot at a time so i might reduce it down to one halo and move it around when needed.

002.JPG

i dropped the seeds in a VG last night, and i plan to run these gen2 lights at equal spectrum...

I thought it was a dead guy's finger or something... yeesh 🤣

hahahaha i thought i was a big toenail or something at first!!!!! now that a photo made for ultra high definition!!!!!!!!!!

.
.

just waiting on a couple late risers...

001.JPG

i'm glad i got te soil in the pots early. it's giving me time to practice and follow the sensors.. i already had one blow out on the holes and quickly learned i cannot use a watering can or jug to water these. i will need to use patience and use my watering wand. slow and low!

it will be a slight learning curve but i'm ready to go!!!!!! hope to have them all in soil by tomorrow night!! shit, i forgot to look and see what the moon says about this.. oh well, too late now!

got em all in... two have me concerned but the rest seem to be hearty..

016.JPG

017.JPG

i got a new tablet because mine only ran droid 10 so i put it downstairs on command central wall... printed a little bracket and now i can see my ecowitt sensors from down there.

started the new plats off at 30-30-30 week1/day1 - rock n roll!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah so this happened yesterday and me being the evil sumbitch who likes to watch the world burn thought I would be kind and share just to get your thoughts because it really feels like a conflict of interest.
Especially that red and gold Hendricks cap.....

I get it. Been there done that so I know how this goes. The rage is real. Briscoe drove an A&M car last year and things haven't been the same since but winning has helped me move past it.
So to soothe those feels...here's an hour of burnouts to make ya smile again
