Bandit on a Safari and I'm Hunting Unicorns

Days like these

Were made to doodle about in the lab.

Been frustrated with some of the different Press Club bags. Some are better than others and I'd like consistency there along with baddass quality.
Still in a bit of boycott mode with nugsmasher even though their bags have been the best in my stash. Yeah they're good but they're spendy and I've given them enough money.
Bought a pack of Gutenberg's to try out and so far the test pack has been the best I've used.
So with the storms rolling thru, why not go out and squish by the sound of thunder and heavy rains?

I've put 4 sheets like this into the freeze dryer to see what happens to it ;fafo

Why's it so bright? How much light to you neeeeeed? Plant is dead already,, just so you know.....

Next up will be rear cab speakers where none exist now and a bigger, thumpier sub than the single 12" I have in there now
What 12" do u have? If u r looking at a "thumpy" sub, I'd check out sundown. They r competition level subs. I have a x2 12" from them and it beats hard! That sub is rated at 1500rms but that company is known for underrating the actual rms. Dunno if something like that would fit in a truck though, maybe?

well i hope you ain't thumpin with your dogs in there!!! but no i just kinda meant on were like what is this thing in here?? i used to lay here, this was my spot?? haha do ether of them sit on it like a booster seat? haha

.

i've noticed the PC brand has the worst yield for me as well. my pates are smaller so i don't get to press as much at one time so every little drop matters to me.

but when i first tried the guten's i bought the same size that i use from PC and NS and the guten's stretched out and came out the sides of my plates and i had to downsize to get a good footprint. i need to remember to send you those, i can't use them.

.

is your new freeze dried material any different looking from the stuff you made with the desiccate and vacuum last time?

LOL Ollie hasn't gone for a ride yet but we've test fitted it for him. More room for the old man to move around but I need to build the next part of the platform for him so it's one big level platform for him to lay down and stretch across if he wants and sit up and watch out the windows.

I ordered more Mahoneys. Yeah I know Gutenberg's but that makes me think of Steve Gutenberg and I'll always call that guy Mahoney from the police academy movies so yeah...Mahoney Bags 🙃

Got the regular and bottle tech versions.
All I pretty much do is bottle tech so I'm gonna try some of the Press Club bags laying down and not bottle tech them, see how that goes and if I can use them that way. If so I could load two bags at a time since some of them are small and were bought for my old press.

Another pouring down rainy day today so I'm gonna be out there again messing with some stuff and making extracts and freeze drying.
There really is no comparison between DIY and proper freeze dry. DIY works but it's very small batch, I'm not sure it's 100% zero moisture, and there's only the single set way to get it to happen.
With the machine I get true 0% moisture and it's insanely customizable and that's where I'm at in tuning it for cannabis because freeze drying weed flower is way different than food stuff or candy and that's what I'm learning about using it.
That's something I may start a new thread and utilize the tagging features and key words to get more people who may have bought one of these and start googling how to do it into here to discuss them.
These are different than what's being used by commercial extractors and there's next to no info on how to use a home freeze dryer for extracts online. I found two guys on reddit in the same boat as me using these things like a guinea pig.
There's also a degree of gatekeeping info but I'm also getting the sense that some of the gatekeeping is due to mutherfuckers pretending they know what they're posting about but are really fake AF posers leaving out key details only people using one of these machines would know about. Fucking dooshbag wannabes trying to be influencers or some dumb shit like that. Punk ass chumps man. So yeah, gotta weed out the bullshit info here too.

Part of the process also involves heat which is for food stuff. Well I don't want any damn heat zapping terps so that had to be addressed before the first run or I think it would defrost at like 174*F or some shit. I set for 60 and that was still warm for my taste so now I either will not defrost or defrost at like 35-40 degrees or something like that.

Going back to the difference in DIY and plug and play results and one thing that stands out...DIY freeze dry gave me what I'd expect in a very dry herb that would crumble into fine dust easily. The plug and play doesn't do that. The buds don't crumble at all. They're very much like a soft dry sponge and maintain density. They're just at 0% instead of 10-15% moisture. They even burn slow and don't torch up fast at all. But they do go void of flavor and aroma and that's where I'm dialing in still. It's like getting high off flavorless and odorless weed.

Oo, I could dab the whole fuckin sheet right now.

That's about 2grams splayed out on each sheet like that. A little over 1 on the live.
Yeah 3g to the head in one sitting?

D-IJK4.gif

Alright, I'm dabbing this cart. 😆

I once put cart oil in a pen atomizer and watched it all flow out right down thru it and out the side air passage.
I was trying to hit it before it all escaped but the hotter it got the faster it all drained out the pen 🫠

Why's it so bright? How much light to you neeeeeed? Plant is dead already,, just so you know.....

The carport is dark dude especially on cloudy and rainy days!
The built in lights on the press came in quite handy but can be turned off on the control panel.

This guy right here!

My amp feeds it 600watts of RMS and it's a mean mutha my friend!
Went to a concert Sunday and compared what I have now to the venue.
I'd say my truck has more thump, tweet, and better midrange than Joan Jett's live set and touring band and my system is about equal to what Billy Idol rolled out. Concert quality sound in a small two seater cab pickup truck w/ access cab. I've cranked it up to max a couple times and know it could give me some good old fashioned hearing damage so I gotta be careful. The bass resonate so deep it's turned my driver seat into a massage chair 🥴

That's pretty nice! Yeah kickers r good quality. I was pretty sure u had a truck and there's no way u could fit a sundown x2 12 in there lol
Sounds like u had a good time. I would totally go see Idol, some good shit there. On a different note, I'm gonna have to check out ur chili recipe and report back on whether or not beans have any business in chili :)

this reminds me of an old kenwood ad, it was a truck going down the road with a dogs head out the window and the caption read something like "because you don't have a quality sound system" - kenwood hahahaha

i remember you made a platform before with good grip for them, you gonna make something custom like that again i assume? .. gotta keep em spoiled!!! hehe

ah i didn't know his name was guttenurg... thats funny!!!!! i'm a big fan of all the police academy's!!

i don't have much skill using a bag not in bottle form. i've blown out every single flat style i've tried i think. i go bagless for flats.

here too man!!! i got time to myself this week and and it's freakin raining everyday! ain't getting shit done!

i kinda figured you'd be on your own canoe with doing this, hell man most of things you try haven't been done so why would this be any different!!! haha

i can't wait to see what your results are.. i've always been under the impression that some moisture was required for pressing, i was once told the steam caries the resin out. but i've been told all kinds of things and don't believe most of them!! haha my pops always told me believe half of what you read and nothing you hear!! haha been listening to him all my life!!!

so it sounds like some of the moisture also hold terps? and not just the essential oils.

odorless? like it doesn't stink from the smoke at all? hmmm, could have a place in life, no?

.

hey i've been meaning to ask for like a week now... what strain is this? did you say before that your Ethos strains were the ones that had most of the purps? ( i got lost trying to find your post about it weeks ago..)

On the Press Club it looks like they prefer laying flat but I can still blow them out.
The material pressure equation simply does not work with these bags. The size is correct but there's something off maybe in the weave, true micron, or who knows what.

IMG_1326[1].jpeg

Big difference is they blow under the plate and not the side like bottle tech so I still get the yield

IMG_1324[1].jpeg

These are the nuances and art of making rosin and why there will never ever ever be some sort of cookie cutter script on how to do it.
Same bag, weed, and setting but one laying flat yields well and the bottle tech on the bad bag sucks. Just a matter of knowing what the bag can and cannot handle.

Freeze drying purged the wax of air and water but did not dewax it so still very sticky and unstable

IMG_1337[1].jpeg

This is about a 2gram haul off a single 7g flower squish. About a 28% return

IMG_1332[1].jpeg

Filled some buckets

IMG_1344[1].jpeg

I'm gonna winterize and dewax one of the pots next.
Also have 4oz of keif and some distillate to make.
Then comes the THC% testing!!!!

I think that's Violet Gas Kush by Uruz.

I realize I never took any pics of what I'm pretty sure were the 4 Ethos Wrank. I'll get some before I bag it up though.
My impression of it was classic indica and a protoype of commercial indica traits designed to grow 1 plant per square foot in a sog.
That strain was made to make $$$ on yield and bag appeal.
The R2 breeding was legit in that yeah they're seeds but I coulda told you they were clones and you'd believe it. Hell, I'd believe they were clones and I saw them grow from seed! Each plant was identical to the next.
The only negative I saw in her is the UV kicked out some foxtails no other strain had but the UV also had the effect of frosting up previously unfrosted leafy parts as well so I'm sure the flowers also packed it on.

Round 2 working Ethos I have 2 of 3 starts going forward. One popped but stalled out and never popped out the true first leaves.
Also have the GPS doing classic GPS mutant stuff then snapping out of it after seedling stage.
The Vietnamese shit is already asking me if I'm ready for a rodeo and they hope I have a bigger tent than what they're in.
I just look at 'em and say Charlie, you have no fucking idea what I'm gonna give you!

Yeah the freeze dryer is some funky machinery man. With that flavorless and odorless high, I think I may have unintentionally made an isolate?
There's a ton to play with there. Even time so in theory if I know the exact time it hit 10% moisture, I could shut it down and it would be a legit subzero dry but not all the way down to 0% moisture.
I'll keep turning over rocks just to see what happens and what I can find.

We needed the rain super bad so I aint mad at it. 'Maters are loving it!

Thanks for doing all the Rosen/press research for me lol.

I of course plan on having an extraction/press room, and want to make my own shatter and rosens'

So I'll need to come back here and go through all this when I'm in the position to do so.

At some point paper should also be discussed.
Some can get by with regular parchment paper. Some have said Costco Kirkland brand is the best.
It all depends too. Some of the lighter presses do well with lighter stock paper but since I went to 12ton and targeting material pressure bei ng maxed out I can blow thru paper like bags. Might be worse than blowing a bag because all the wax is lost embedded in the paper or lost on the plates in a gooey mess.
I go heavy duty on the paper now and it's spendy but I don't blow it out either.
To find that I google search heavy duty silicone paper and find what I'm looking for in precut sheets that will fit my plates. This paper can also be reused.

🔥

Melt down

The only thing I don't like about flower rosin is that's waxy and will leave your gear grimy even after one load so it needs to be swabbed while warm after every load and deep cleaned often. Or I could dewax it and get full melt clean.
There in lies the trade off. Stay dirty but keep it natural and solventless or dewax it with ethanol.
Puffco makes it so I can keep it solventless since their gear is super ez to keep clean and fresh so keeping it solventless is often my choice.
Time can also dewax it and then another way is with a centrifuge warmed up and spun at around 3500rpm so maybe that becomes an option later, we'll see.

Sorry, if you've already posted and I somehow missed it, but how was the Joan Jett and Billy Idol show?

It was fantastic and if that tour comes by yours or anybody's town I highly recommend it Brother!
It was a great night of rock n roll, punk, and new wave sounds that kept the house dancing! It was also genx and boomer friendly with comfy seats for those of us with bad backs and stuff.

They still got it that's for sure but the biggest treat might've been Steve Stevens. I'm pretty sure I saw the best live guitar performance in my life from him now.
I've seen Stevie Vai and Eric Johnson live but Stevens was on another dimension Sunday night. Can't even describe some of it the way he uses a synthesizer and guitar together. At one point, Billy handed him what looked like a toy space ray gun and he used it like a guitar pick and also amplified the notes from the gun weaved into the guitar sound and then out the amp. Had probably 3 good long solos including his Top Gun movie guitar anthem which gave Billy's voice a rest.
Billy was a showman which I didn't expect. I thought he'd just take center stage, belt out the tunes, snarl, and pump his fist.
Nah.
He worked the crowd, covered every inch of the stage, respected his band, was humble, was funny and him and the crowd fed off each other for a really good time.
Joan Jett was great as well. Second time seeing her and she delivers a good set. Backs off some of the notes to not blow her voice but gets thru it. Billy did the same but it worked well.
The hi-lite of Joan Jett may have been her cover of Sly and the Family Stone's Everyday People. I'd never heard her play that even though she did it back in 1983 lol

Sweet! Glad you guys got to see a good show.

There are so many good guitarists. I can't rank their talent, because most of the greats standout for different reasons. Like you, I do have favorite live performances, though. Some shows are just magical. I had to look up the ray gun thing. I landed right on a video of Stevens explaining how it works and how he modifies the toy guns by adding a potentiometer.

This is bad, but I didn't even associate Stevens with Idol. I also didn't know he won a grammy for his lead guitar part on the Top Gun Anthem. I remember him with Michael Jackson, but the true reason I'm familiar with Stevens came from a drummer buddy giving me Black Light Syndrome on cd, many years ago. Terry Bozzio, Tony Levins and Stevens are amazing together.

I prefer Stevens over Via, but I preferred Zappa over Via, too. Via is amazingly talented, but maybe a little too clinical for me. I need that raw emotion.

I'm not really surprised at Idol putting on a good show. It's just hard for me to imagine him slowing down.

The show sounds like a great time, for sure!

i never really liked the kirkland paper.. i have a roll here since 2017 and it never get used. i just don't like paper on a roll that much. i prefer a flat sheet myself. i buy a 11x17 sheet and use my paper cutter to cut them into three's and i get a perfect size for my press, all depends on your plates of coarse.

this is is what i've been using for a few years now... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0742M7KR7

I wish!

He’s about a decade older. Great time for music.

Zappa and Hendrix were great guitarists but I never got into their singing. My buddy used to play Joe’s garage over and over when we worked on our cars at his shop. That got old fast. 🤣

man if never dropped acid and watched zappa's 1000 motels, then you haven't lived!!!! hahaha

We did The Wall, Rocky Horror and The Song Remains the Same. All at the same theatre over a few years. Think the buildings still there but the theatre was closed long ago.

Maple Leaf Gardens was for most concerts back then.

Acid was only around a few high school years. Then disappeared. Probably should have gone back to school to find more. 🤔🤣

didn't you used to babysit billy idol? ;rfl ;rfl ;rfl

I prefer to watch Jimi in old videos more than listen. A few of his songs are in my library and get mixed in the rotation. I have an awesome remastered version of Along The Watchtower but listening to like a full album or two isn't something I'd do. Just songs peppered in with other stuff.

Zappa fans are spooky loyal man. Those guys and Rush fans...like WTF? I'm pretty sure if heroin was music it'd be Rush and Zappa. Those dudes will mainline that shit for hours!!!

man if never dropped acid and watched zappa's 1000 motels, then you haven't lived!!!! hahaha

Not sure why but I never could get into Frank Zappa. Like a weird missed connection where I feel like I should, it makes sense to, but I don't🤷‍♀️

The golden era of the rock opera, rock n roll, and the real rock star IMO.
We got to see Roger Waters version of The Wall in 2013. Saw Rocky Horror in high school.
That's what was cool about the Billy Idol show in that it was a throwback to the era of rock stars doing rock star shit.
The only thing Stevens didn't do with his guitar was set it on fire or destroy it Kurt Cobain style but he did everything else including playing behind his head!

New shows these days....meh. There really is no show. It's festival culture on repeat and the festivals are shit shows for wannabe influencers to play influencer for a day. I saw video the other day of some chick ruining a show by having a ring light creating content while the show was going. Another one where every single person in the crowd was watching the show thru their phone screen. Like live in the moment you dumb bitch! Nobody is gonna watch your stupid shitty video anyways so put your phone down and enjoy the show.
I still can't believe people pay to see deejays. WTF? Who spends money to watch somebody play records? That's like for weddings and shit, not a rock show.
Rant over 🥴

Ethos Wrank R2. Egg sized nugs after drying and they smell like propane and butcher shop. Tastes like cleaning chemicals. Very potent. Strong entouroage effect of a warm bath. Medicinal grade

Another grow, another exercise in trying to keep up with shit.
Running behind and it's about 2-3 days past time to upcan and flip this group then move them into the main grow room.

Not gonna lie, I like Zappa and Rush. I'm not extremely fanatical, but I do like them. During the transition from cassettes to compact discs Rush, Exit Stage Left was the first cd I bought after getting my first stereo system that with a cd player. "Tom Sawyer" was thumping.

I don't know if you like extended jams, but I think this video with Vai and Zappa from '82 is pretty cool:

In what other world would we read that description and think, "Damn, that sounds like something I'd wanna to try." I looks great, too.

I don't know how you keep up with everything. Did you print those pieces the lights are mounted on?

Maybe there's money in this. Set up some pay-to-view live-streaming tent cams...

Seriously, and judging by those roots, your plants must love the flood and drain set up.

I’ve heard Deadheads are pretty loyal.

Yeah I was in high school for most of the rock band years. I rarely listened to a whole record or tape. I liked to mix things up and record them to tapes for the car or the well known “mixed” tape make out nights. Lol

Cars still where I listen to the most music. On the motorcycle I had earbuds under the helmet. Songs like Tom Sawyer or We Will Rock You would have me gunning the throttle a little. 🤣

I can listen and even enjoy some of todays music but it doesn’t resonate the same for me. Older music brings back the memories of the times and places I enjoyed hearing it in the past.

But like the mullet these times have passed. 🤣

Better get some pots buddy....

;pass

Yep;pervert

The more a strain smells like a dead animal and a loaded diaper the more I'll probably like it. ;smoke
The ones that make me gag at harvest tend to be the most potent.

Ys Sir those are 3D printed parts for the lights. Used up a lot of scrap filament there so they ended up being multi color.

Ya know I have a time lapse camera I've been wanting to use to document a grow. I'm missing something in it's setup though. I need to revisit it and figure it out. The best I was able to do is get like 24 hours of time lapse showing growth during the day as well as turning leaves to catch light and waking up, going to sleep.
It was pretty cool and one of the reasons I don't cut leaves if they block a bud. Like maybe we see it in the moment blocking or covering a flower, but the plant will turn leaves like solar panels throughout the canopy on it's own.

Flood and drain and me have always gotten along very well. Roots love it!
It's a little on the swampy side but fun.

Oh man my go-to when hitting the hiway on ramp is Pink Floyd "Run Like Hell". A live version where Waters and Gilmour duel it out so hard on the vocals it sounds like they're gonna fight! That song and driving fast are like peanut butter and chocolate together.

My truck is where I jam too.
I can't wear headphones or earbuds. I have this weird tick where I can't have things like jewelry on me. Can't wear a wedding ring, necklace, and the only reason I can wear a smart watch is the band is poly nylon and not metal or leather but it still feels like a cast on my wrist. Ear buds feel like knives in my skull and headphones feel like a vise on my head.

🔥

Got the bottle tech specific bags in today and got to work

Difference between 2x4 PC bag, 2x4 Mahoney bottle tech, and 2.5x4.5 regular Mahoneys

IMG_1363[1].jpeg

Live weed?
Moments after cutting from the main branch I put this weed into 0 degree deep freeze.
With no time to thaw it was then freeze dried at -20.
From harvest to squish it's been kept frozen then only when under the plates was it heated up.

IMG_1364[1].jpeg

I went bottle tech in a 2x4, 160 micron, 5500 hydraulic PSI, 185*F, 320 seconds. Will adjust from there

IMG_1367[1].jpeg

Next stop I'm gonna go ahead and try to dewax with a centrifuge.
Kinda going in with that on the cheap and found a machine that should work for small batches like what I'm doing along with some borsilicate glass vials to use in it 🤞

The blend I'm making for this grow.
Pretty much instant super soil made inside a modified compost tumbler.
Does 1 bag / 1.5cf / 10-12 gallons of soil per mixing and each mixing roll is about 20 revolutions taking several minutes.
Like a muscle powered cement mixer

man you've used the big ball a few times now, how are you liking it? it still goes on sale on prime sales.

.

wow those roots are looking every bit as good as airpots, even gets airpruning in the same way as it looks.. no problems with those bags or anything? i mean from this side of the screen i'm struggling to find a single negative or downside??

.

just curios man, are those press numbers about what you normally roll with? like does the freeze dried stuff require different heat at all?
any chance you happen to squish some freeze dried and some not freezed from the same plant to compare?

i know i'm just full of questions tonight wtf???!!! hahahahaha

.

ah man did you see we only get to use a fantasy driver ten times? i can't pick larson anymore... only get brisky for two more weeks now too... damn!!! pretty sweet gettin a bonus multiplier now!! also saw we get 25 points for voting for the all star!!!

Comfortably Numb is my all time Floyd favourite.

Wow. Exactly the same. Watch was the only thing I could tolerate. I’d take it off once home. As soon as I got a smart phone it got put away.

I tried to do the wedding ring for years. Wife was cool and knows I can’t do jewelry so gave me a pass. I’d put it on if going out with my business or her work associates. I just remembered, cufflinks and tie pins were fine. They don’t touch me.

I liked wallets though. Had many diff types and styles. One uncle did as well, but he liked the seen on TV ones. Like the one you would open, lay down the bill(s), close and reopen from the other side and it pulled the bills in and held them securely going forward.

I went through many head sets and earbuds. Tech was my hobby for a long time. I needed music if it was going to be a long ride. Great for traffic updates in the mornings as well. Only had one set I could wear for most of a work day. Had to remove after a while before putting back on or it would make my ears ache. In ear just kills after a while. Only problem is they don’t have a replaceable battery.

Next stop I'm gonna go ahead and try to dewax with a centrifuge. Kinda going in with that on the cheap and found a machine that should work for small batches like what I'm doing along with some borsilicate glass vials to use in it 🤞
Record player on high speed? 🤣😂

I like the ball mixer a lot. One of these days I'll buy a cheapo $10 spool of filament and make the mixers much larger and use a whole 2kg spool on them but other than I like it.
No soil out there has all the ocean borne goodies plus biozome, biochar, and oyster meal. I also forgot I'm adding in some Pridelands too so if I want all that I gotta DIY it.

I've always said if I found something better than airpots I'd use it. Took 11 years but I found it.
Same performance but in a bag that costs 14 cents a pop even though it's single use. $14 for 100 bags and given about 15 bags per grow that 100 should cover over 6 grows for me.
This is just one of those things that IDK man. Growing is 95% root management. Master them and everything up top comes ez. What makes them happy and perform great is obvious and ez to give them. These bags...no brainer.
They do a combo of airpruning and dreadlocks from the base. No shock at upcan because you don't pull the bag off. They're not that felt stuff and instead almost like lace panties. I was very close to using newspaper pots until I saw these because I wanted bags roots would punch thru but still hold up to flood cycles.

I wouldn't want to hand water them though so if you or anybody is considering using them and hand watering....IDK but good luck. IMO they were made for flood and drain or dunking.

Airpots are not out 100% yet though. While indicas and hybrids are only upcanned once here, I'm gonna give the sativas two upcans.
So to do that the Vietnamese 3way plants will be upcanned into 5 gallon airpots and flipped with the others. But in 2-3 weeks they'll be upcanned again into 7 gallon solid wall pots.
Basically it's indicas in 2-3 gallons, hybrids in 3-4, sativas in 6-7 with the sativas getting that xtra bump with fresh soil midway thru flower from the xtra upcanning.

The two settings I bounce around the most are heat and time.
Heat, anything from 175-200 but most common I'm working in the 180s. IDK if this is pinpoint accurate because my plates bounce the laser back when I try to check temp but these are readings on my press.
Time can be from 250-420 seconds but I'm usually working around the 300 second range or when I see flow slowing down.
I'll work pressure between 3 tons and 6 tons, just depends on the load and the bag size.

I'll get some side by side of same plant freeze dry vs air dry pressing.
Air dry is darker and more saucy and way more sticky.
Freeze dry is much lighter and gold in color, nearly dewaxed, and comes out in a dry crumble

Man...I've given up on fantasy and the pool. I just suck at picking winners this year and I seem to jinx them all. I'm getting my points but geezus my fantasy is shot to shit. I took Todd Gilliand to win Bro. Like fuck just pick longshots and see if it works is just as good of strategy as any for right now. 🥴

IDK if I can pick a fave from Floyd. I could pick a fave off each album but overall IDK.
Young Lust would be up there as well as Welcome to the Machine. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun...Learning to Fly...Mother...just too many and that's not even studio demo work like The Doctor, an alternative version of Comfortably Numb

Here's the centrifuge I got. Yeah it'll put an eye out☠️
