Do you think weed is better now than in the 70s, 80s and 90s?

I did a simple search and my stoned arse didn’t see anything like this, but it seems like a question than has to have been asked before!

Is weed better today than it was in decades past?
I didn’t smoke in the 60s, not idea what it was like, but in the 70s and 80s, I had some of the greatest weed I can possibly imagine. Aromas that just apparently don’t exist anymore!
I used to regularly get something called “Purple Sierra”, it was purple and smelled like a Christmas tree farm.
My buddy used to get thai stick that a pinner share by 4 people would render all of us wasted!
I smoked some African weed that was like mushrooms! I sat in my yard and watched grass grow for a few hours!
I can also remember some skunk that smelled like Pepe le’ pew’s ass pipe!

Today, I have froot loops, berry and skunk that even occasionally smells a little! Even my own weed doesn’t compare to those aromas (in my memory)!

Now, the weed today is probably more potent, but I’m not sure I’d check off the “better” box though. Just way different!

In my humble opinion, I prefer the weed from my memories, but I’m pleased with the weed from my garden!

It’s the incredibly accurate memories that stoner are know to possess versus frosty bud in hand!

We need to invent a time machine because studying early cannabis is the best use for that technology!

Starting in '74 it was best strains of the year then later, cannabis cups starting in '88.
All of these are archived in photos and some of that stuff from the 70s looks closer to yard waste than good pot.
Early to mid 90s it started to look more like what's around today with full buds trimmed and cured well and not looking all grassy.
Take those 90s buds and cover them in sugar and that's what we have today.

Personally, I don't dig many of those old strains. Acapulco Gold and Maui Wowie IMO are trash weed today but the times we had and the youth we lived back then is what became legendary. It was good times with good friends and no hype shit that made those cuts so good

Some buddies of mine drove to Mexico from Canada late 60's. They bought 4-5 lbs of pot and loaded it in their spare tire. To be careful it was placed on the car as they drove over both borders and drove about 20 miles away from the border before they'd switch it out again.

When they got back and we started smoking it it was like smoking rubber, gagged and coughed its now known as the Michelin weed run but having nothing else we smoked all they couldn't sell. It was gross but it was weed...every time I smell burning rubber I remember that weed...lol

My friend that lived across the street used to get those thai stick that were tied to a thai stick and boy did they ever feel sticky.

That stuff was serious, messed me up every time, lose my brain weed. I couldn’t tell you how it smelled, I was too busy just gooning out!

We used to have an old picture in the family photo album of a big kona gold plant. My dad went to Hawaii in the late 70s and met a guy that grew it.when he got home the dude mailed him a couple grams, my mom said they smoked a tiny little joint in the car with the dog in there clam baking.she said the dog was so baked it had trouble walking. I've tried a few strains over the years, and although today's weed is much stronger, it doesn't always have the same nostalgic qualities. However, when it comes to managing conditions like ADHD, I've found that cannabis can make a big difference. For example, I tried cannabis for ADHD from Releaf, and it really helped with focus and symptom relief. It doesn't cure everything, but it provides support.

I've smoked it all from the early days and new weed was a thrill and a new high but with today's weed we have built tolerances and we've matured so the weed buzz doesn't hit like when were young....ger.....IMHO anyways.

Anyway those days are sadly gone so this argument doesn't really matter, we have what we have.

I play a lot of Chess, maybe 5-10 games a day everyday and have for years. I play my best about 1 hr after smoking, then coffee and a bit of online sht then chess, 1st game meh not too with it...after that I'm locked on and you better be on your game...I am at that point....

I lose then too I'm no expert but I play best after smoking and I can lock into the game, I don't make as many mistakes. its not the obvious moves that win games it seeing moves your opponent doesn't and smoking gets me into a different wave length or zone where everything else is out of touch, my wife can talk to me and I'll never hear her, although she knows better now, 1/2 my losses are her fault.....lol....I can Not be disturbed!...lol....

I started playing when I was in about grade 3, my dad taught me the moves and a few of us kids used to play at school. I never joined any chess clubs in high school they were too Geeky for me and I'd found drugs by then. I have a small magnetic board and pieces I used to travel with, Played on Plane, trains & busses, beaches & beds. When I bought a Commodore 64 back in the 80's I had my first computer program that would kick the shit out of me but I could replay moves and try again and again and again to get my moves right. Eventually I was able to beat it up to about level 6 out of 10.
Now with chess.com I play folks all over the world in 10 min games every day. I'm about a 1550 rated player, experts start at 1600. to be a master you'd be around 2200 if you don't play a lot but know the moves you'd come in at1200, if you've never played you'd be an 800 for comparison

You were 45 years younger then too and pot did take a jump once Sinsemilla was introduced, then skunks, they all bumped the game up a bit once folks got growing indoors and played with strains.

I think it was time and place stuff with an upgraded weed that gave you that buzz...Concentrates are at the top of the game now and I think that sht would rock you back to the 80's again with enough of it.

I agree with everything you said. I never grew a store bought seed until 2018. I've grown a few different brands since then, but noting is as good as the stuff I grew in the early 80. I'm 100% convinced the Cannabinoids have changed for the worse. Old school Colombian leaves will get you very high, especially when made into oil. That's because the THCP was in the leaves imo. Agree regarding Cali Connection, Swerve's LA Affie is the finest cannabis I've grown in the last decade, I grew it for several years.

The other more likely possibility is that we've bred it to death over the last 40+ years. I bred the stink out of real skunk#1 over a period of 10 years (87-97) because I couldn't control the stench, and it did lose quite a bit by the end of my run with it

Around the time Colombian gold was $40 oz, we was getting Blond Lebanese for $150. Today's concentrates are not even close to 70's-early 80's imo -and it's all to do with thcp or something yet to be discovered.

Back when I grew outdoors in the 80's I had more than a few people say they thought the weed was laced.
Some did not believe me when I said I grew it and one never understood why I said ' if you really think so I have done my job well~!'
For over 4 years I grew outdoors using bag seed and seeds from plants the year before.
There were no female only seeds back then just the random herm seeds you felt lucky to get.
Everyone always wanted a herm for it's 99% female plants.
I am the youngest and remember my brothers getting real Hawiian, Panama Red, Acapulco Gold and Thia stick.
My eyes would get so red they could have been bleeding~!

Maybe. I think the problem is you will be growing a twenty foot plant that takes three to four months to flower and that’s pretty much not possible indoors unless you have lots of room. If you live somewhere tropical or even like California you may have better luck growing. Some of those sativas also flower on weird schedules. Like 11/13 and so on. Also most landrace Sativas are very prone to herm on you and also I’ve heard you need to do serious pheno hunting to find what you are looking for. I would start with African cannabis. I bought some of these seeds but never got a chance to grow them out and I don’t think the ones I have are viable anymore.

After looking at a lot of the pictures on the landrace team website I can tell that a lot of them are grown out at the Jade Nectar farm in California. He has a YouTube channel and grows huge landrace cultivars with psychedelic effects. He makes tinctures out of them and sells them in Cali. I would love to try them and grow out whichever ones have the effects I like. I live in central Oregon and have a short growing season so I would have to grow these indoors. After seeing how huge these plants get I don’t know if I could. Maybe I could have supplemental lighting in the greenhouse, I dunno.
