I went grocery shopping today.....

Sohum is the lightest stuff I have tried yet.
I mixed it with Pro Mix and Coast of Maine Stonington [ not light at all].

I understand you can mix FFOF with Happy Frog for a decent soil mix, cooking soil, and mixing alot has my back in guard. Sohum, Build a Soil, Roots many to try, huh? SS

I was using a 50/50 blend of HF and FFOF for a few years before I discovered Roots and other blends.
Honestly though with all the work of making a soil and yeah bad back, age, lack of time, I say to Hell with it and just buy it.
Every now and then I'll grab a bag of Happy Frog but I've steered away from using Ocean Forest. OF has sand it in it and seems to hate my water and room but I'm groovy with the peat based Happy Frog.

Are you seeing Fox Farm stuff at the HEB near you? Their prices are actually better than the hydroshop here and they store it inside unlike the other garden center here that keeps it outside with not even a carport style cover or even a tarp to cover it.

But so far I've only seen one HEB stocked up like that with Fox Farm stuff and it's a big new one less than 3 years old.

If you don't have a hydro shop near you you can order soil from some of the Home Depots and Lowes stores.

only the bx
Thats what i use, i add 3 cu ft of perlite to each 3.8 cu ft compressed bale.
Basically my way of getting my hands on HP without spending so much.

Bx is 56 a bale here, HP is $150, +freight shipping so like 300+ dollars for dirt.....

No I haven't as of yet, these stores/warehouses use an "Isle programmer" of sorts to re-arrange the store for new products so maybe soon, I am out of FF Big Bloom now. Happy New Years Bandit,SS

I was adding perlite as well until I tried Coco Loco which has perlite and it does help with moisture retention. I water less now. SS
How do you like the coco loco? Is it comparable to other soils as far as nutrient content in the soil, etc.?

You know how sometimes you're in the checkout line at the grocery store and there's another person in a line and their cart is full of only one thing but it's like 50 bottles of milk or 20 cases of eggs or soda type deal. And everybody else in the store is looking at that person and wondering WTF is that guy gonna do with all that?

Today, I was that guy with the weird cart full of lots of one item and I got those looks.

Because who doesn't go the grocery store on 4/20?
Then to find it carrying Fox Farm of all things for only $20/sack felt like the moment was touched by the Ganja Gods themselves!
I'm just happy it's still priced so low.

Y'all will be pleased to know, a large shopping cart can comfortably fit 12 cubic feet of soil and still be fairly ez to navigate ;smoke

You know how you can filter out all the weed growers? By the sly look on their face when they are in line knowing what you're going to be doing with all that stuff.

Didn't see any but I saw some people's wheels turning who may have thought I was panic shopping and if they should too.
I didn't have water, toilet paper, or milk though so I could see the brain lock up on them. One did have to go out and see what I paid which was weird. Karen type probably.

Lush for the win.

I have been making my own super soil (SS), and love it. But, once in awhile I pick up a couple bags of Lush with my worm castings.

I will continue with my own SS and move to a living soil soon...fingers crossed.

But as far as bagged soil, Lush has my vote!

If the store sold Lush, it woulda been in my cart. Same for Stonington.

But in these days of Happy Frog for $37, Stonington for $40, and lush for $45...Happy Frog for $20 is like the crazy chic at the bar and me being fucked up enough to think I can fix her so I bring her home.
It's not the best soil I've ever used but I'd put it in the top 5 so when I'm looking at #1/$40 vs #4/$20, the price makes that choice.
If the Happy Frog was at $37 like it is every where else then yeah I'd order Lush or Stonington delivered.
I'll add some goodies to spice her up a bit. Had some good grows with it in the past but I do agree be it Lush or Stonington does make life very ez on the grower.
Also had the option to get Salamander which is Fox Farm's water holding medium, Ocean Forest, and small bags of Coco Loco. They also sell Happy Frog soil conditioner which is used to bring life back to used soil. I got 2 of those bags for only $15 each to use in my pepper patch.

My bad. I meant 1.5 bags. IIRC, they also had Lush. I'm going to give them a call and see how much they want for it. If anyones interested and the price is right I'll see if they'll ship.

It all depends on where you live, how close you are to distribution and manufacturing, and demand in your area.
I'd bet every grower in every state pays a different price for the same bag of dirt.
The best prices are always in the upper east coast of the USA and Florida.
Sure you can pay $20 a bag local like I do the Happy Frog. Not locally sourced, it's a $38 bag delivered.
Ship to store is also a moving target depending on location.
