Coffee

Watched this yesterday and it reminded me of this thread.
Super funny movie had me LMAO. There's even a character named "Stoney" and yeah, she's a stoner!!!

I’m not drinking coffee from the butt of a monkey or cat, let alone that guy! Toothpaste taste was funny though. 🤣

True story:
I tried coffee once and once only.
I was 5 and thought I’d be all grown up, my mom smiled and gave me a cup.

One sip, hated it, never been back.

🤔
I wasn’t a fan either. Only got into it working downtown. Buddy talked me into getting a Starbucks Americano. That was around the year 2000. Now I like good coffee but still drink tea 75% of the time.

One of the few new packages we hav tried yet. With the name Smart Ass I had to try it.

It’s a medium roast and it has a flavour or tang to it. Not bad but different. We’ll need to try it a few more times to see if it makes the cut. So far the dark roasts are the best for us with one medium roast we like.

It’s not as fancy as the dab rigs some of you have but our kettle does have a light show. 🤣

i'll try that one too one day purely based on the name as well.. i've liked the others i tried. right now i have been rotating the custom ladera mix, the beans my neighbors brought me back from peurto rico, and the 454 horsepower. i bought that one because i was intrigued by the licorice taste, only i get none of that at all!! haha but i really enjoy it nonetheless.. i like to add a little bit of chocolate with it, not like a moca or anything near that much but just a little dribble of hersheys dark in the mug goes great with it!!!!! honestly if i was stuck with any one of these three coffees for the rest of my life i might be good with it.

So far the best sale price was $14.99 for one pound of beans. Highest price is $25 for the same.

We tried the Espresso Cliff Hanger but aren’t really enjoying it. Then again we aren’t really doing it right either.IMG_9185.jpeg

It seems we really like the dark roast beans the best. The medium roast are okay but not as strong.

We did notice three or four new flavours the last trip to one of our grocery stores. We picked up one that was a dark roast. So we are using these for the weekend.

Dark roast is usually the morning coffee for me with the medium roast being an after dinner coffee.

They also have a decaf I will not be buying. To me it’s like buying nonalcoholic beer. 🤷‍♂️

We finished the Smart Ass and Half Ass.

This week it’s back to the Grizzly Claw. This one had a nice deep rich earth smell but has a smooth taste. I like it best first thing in the morning.

how did you like the smart ass? i got a bag coming tomorrow...
I’d like to hear your opinion first if that’s all right. That way it won’t influence your experience.

I will say I grind our coffee finer than you’re supposed too with a French press. It does change the taste as does the amount of beans to a degree. Our 12 cup press fills 3 mugs when filled.

i'm drinking three sisters right now. it's just a little lighter than i prefer but i ain't kicking it out bed!!

i liked the 454 stuff. had a hard time telling the difference between that and the ladera and the puerto rican beans my neighbors brought home. i would switch back and forth between the three and i honestly couldn't tell the difference. all great coffee!!
but i really enjoyed the 454!!

i grind mine on the finest setting my grinder has... i don't really fancy all the subtle notes and shit, i just want a good high quality cup of joe!!!

i normally drink mine right when i get home from work, then i sip while catching up on threads.. today was a little later than normal..

i always put a lttle of each of these in a 20 oz cup and pour the coffee overtop and stir with a fork! haha

i should have the smart ass here tomorrow.. i'll let ya know what i think.

well i kinda wish somebody zen like would have influenced my pre experience.. haha

i might have to take this post to their website reviews... so if you're gonna sell a higher priced coffee (over a USD per ounce) then don't be so greedy and put a seal zipper on your freakin bags!! not just a piece tape!!! and also... if you're gonna print "cut here" lines on the bag then how about making them accurate? hmmm?!?! too much to ask i guess..

so yeah i went into drinking it in a really great mood!!! hahaha

seriously though it's good, a little too light n bright for me personally. i think if i add a little darkness in there it will taste a lot better to me. i have some french roast from lardera i'll probably add to it.

as far as KHC goes though it's probably my least favorite so far.

just placed an order with lardera.. got something i never tried before..

Bourbon washed is a washed Peruvian coffee crafted with care by farmer Miguel Sánchez Roncal from the Andino region. This is a rich, heavy body and a beautifully balanced cup. Rich notes of chocolate and sweet graham cracker lead the way, complemented by soft hints of ripe fruit that add depth and complexity. The result is a smooth, satisfying brew with a pleasant, lingering finish.

also grabbed french roast and caturra washed on sale. $3.75 for shipping! no ship gouging going there thats foe show!! got enough points now for free shipping next time.

they change stock and sales often so i'll cherry pick a sweet sale for the free shipping.

Agreed. It’s off our list but we finished the bag.

We like the 454, opened another on the weekend actually. It’s my third choice so far. Having some with the wife this morning.IMG_9638.jpeg

Same. No settings on my grinder but I have a rhythm I shake it too powering off/on. Like a martini shaker. It’s pretty fine when I’m done. If it’s a new coffee I might adjust the next time.

Wife will drink coffee while making more coffee. I’m once in the morning and/or once at night unless I’m in the mood for tea. We don’t do decaf.

I use half and half, wife’s milk and sons like you with this stuff.IMG_9637.jpeg

🤞

You already bought it so it was only fair to let you draw your own conclusions.

We found it light on taste and had a bitter tang to it. I started adding the expresso beans to the grind to give it a nicer finish.

We won’t be getting Smart Ass again.

Not a fan of the tape but I take it off and move it to where we need it as we go. The cut here marks are okay for me so far? I cut both sides and the finish the middle front last, leaving the back connected. The older style bags with twist ties on the sides like cookie bags was better.

so yeah i went into drinking it in a really great mood!!! hahaha

Yep, it needs something. Expresso beans was what I happened to have open as my wife likes getting expresso shots in her coffee.

Agreed.

So far Grizzly Claw and Kick Ass are still the favourites. Additionally 454 and another are runners up.

I used to order coffee online in the mid 2000. Now I only get what I can find locally. $15 a bag is about our limit. Dark roast seems to be our preference.

my local choices for beans is terrible. everything is ground.. i'd have to go to a different store. my choices are my local store which is like five minutes from my house. there are two more of those exact same stores within 20 minutes and the next closest of a different brand is over 30 minutes each way. and i drive really fast!!! the gas prices alone make it not worth it for me.

i paid lardera like three something for shipping.. comes out of jersey.. got my coffee today already!!!! there is no way on the planet my 18 mpg car can drive an hour and me taking up time to go to another store and get coffee for $11 a pound,,, i really like to support local bizz every chance i get but some things they just make it impossible to afford..

the bourbon washed was everything i was hoping it would be... it's my new fav!!!!! haha

002.JPG

got three pounds so i won't need to go looking anytime soon!!!!

freshly roasted too... i wonder how long those bags i get from amazon sit around??

We drive in a circle each week or two hitting 4-6 different grocery store chains. My wife has a system.🙄

I have horrible luck buying online going back to CPUs on eBay in the 90’s. Everything from damaged to not what was advertised.

Do what works for you. I buy local more for being able to inspect items and I hate waiting. Plus returns are at my leisure. If my online experience ever improves I’ll use it more often.

Nice! The Kicking Horse just shows the best before date.IMG_9683.jpeg

Now that springs almost here I’ll be drinking less. I need to pick up one more bag of Kick Ass before the sales dry up.
