I bought a pair of the Spider Farmer FR-30 (30watts for a pair) far red lights.
I added them to my current environment, attached to the same timer as the prime lights, per the spider Farmer light cycle recommendations.

Is that correct? 12 hours of Far Red (concurrent with the prime lights which are warm white with a few random reds and blues).

I don’t want to wreck my plants, the lights aren’t huge (two strips about 24 inches long).

How have others implemented Far Red light?

You can run them a few different ways

You can run then concurrently for added spectrum range/umols, / "Emerson affect" or you can use them a hour before and or lights on and off.

Use them as a "signaling" device.

That’s the piece of doggone information that no other source mentions, they say one or the other. I started thinking, or overthinking what the heck I’m doing.

That now makes more sense!

Thank you!

Using far red too soon in flower will stretch your plants more than you'll want. wait until their stretch is done, You don't need a foot between segments and you'll get that with too much far red....specially the first weeks of flower.

I love using far reds at different times through my grows. I use only at lights out. 5 before and 10 after. for 1 week only. Any longer and they stretch out too much. This crop I wanted to keep my plants short in veg so I added extra blue with my booster bars and they did their job so much so my plants got a bit too crowded. I stopped the blues and started the reds after topping, my plants spread out nicely and have a nice green look with nice wide leaves. I stopped using after 7 days and I'm ready to flip. I'll use again after 4-5 weeks when their flower stretch is done for the same time off 5 before and 10 after

Indeed, I implemented red/far red lights at week 4 day 1. The stretch is over but this girl certainly didn’t need another inch. She is already close to the light. I’m hoping she gets chunky now.
