This was a cutting that I rooted and put in some miracle grow cactus soil I think. It was doing good all summer then I noticed these brown spots. Anyone have any experience growing these? Oh its a San Pedro.

Soil looks too wet. Overwatered?

how long ago was it rooted and what kind of area does it sit in? it looks kind of sunburned and potentially has a root pathogen. are those brown spots soft to the touch, or rough like a callous?

Cactus want to have soil that is about 33% large grit sand (decomposed granite works well), 33% perlite and 33% basic plant soil.

You want it to drain REALLY fast.

We had bad luck with that miracle grow cactus soil.killed a bunch of our cactus last summer.transplanted into miralcle grow dead in a month.didnt change anything but the soil, some we had for years.mabey a fluke but I don't think I will buy it again.

miracle grow isn't good straight up. Mixed with a lot of gritty substance, it's okay but I agree with you overall, it's poor at best.

If you want to baby your cactus, buy "Jack's gritty stuff", mix in worm castings and humic acid, your cactus will be very happy, but Jacks is pretty pricy.

You can replace Jacks gritty stuff with a 1:1:1 mix if perlite:gritty sand (granite or pumice):the above soil
Your cactus will certainly do well.

It sits in the greenhouse and gets quite a bit of full sun. Spots feel like the rest of the flesh. Just regular.

just monitor it. things tend to move slow with cacti.

however, some of mine have done that and then started sprouting roots. it could be a consequence of too small a pot. also, the soil but that's been beat to death.
