3D printers and the things growers and stoners can make with them

Still waiting for the Prime sale on the 8th. Son wants to order a bunch of stuff and get it lumped together. He took the free Prime trial.

Bolts and PETG-GF is what I’m waiting on. I did manage to find FDE.

He took the free Prime trial.

did you know that when you buy a prime membership everybody that lives at that address also gets the benefits? you gotta turn it on in the family settings.

my woman and my mother both have separate amazon accounts but get to piggyback off of my prime subscription and they get the free shipping and movies and kindle stuff the same as i do.

I have my eye on this rig. Wanna see where it's price goes on prime day. I doubt I'll buy but am watching it's price swings.
420x420x500 build volume and 4 colors with up to 8 is nuts to me. Price seems way too good for so much in features. Combo also comes with a filament dryer

Nice but we are still learning on the Bambu. Not sure if this is a price drop or not at 5am today?

The heated filament and auto switch over is nice.

No one really uses it enough to keep it. Sister canceled it, mother canceled it.

Trials good for a little longer so we’ll see.

Price didn't budge.
I'm just gonna watch it for a while. Let it get some reviews and see what's up closer to Xmas.
Current printer I have fits all my needs so far but it is slow and entry level. 420x420 volume and multi color printing would be a nice luxury to have though.
Strange how to cost of printers keeps going down. Like the rest of the world keeps getting more spendy by the hour but printers that cost thousands a few years ago are now less than $500.

Geez what a shitty prime day.
I guess dude had that $50 million dollar tab for his wedding to the blow up doll so he got stingy AF for this prime day.
Had a list but could only grab two things on it worth the price.

right?!! gotta be the first prime day ever where i didn't buy a single grow item.. nuthin good on sale. i got some shop towels, pack of drill bits, and some painters tape.. didn't need any of them, they just happen to be good deals.

oh and two pair of sunglasses for $12... i'm a big spender when it comes to shades!!! sat on a pair a few days ago so... haha

I had a cart all put together, saved a whopping 28 fucken cents.... 😑

We saved about $15. But I also rushed an order and picked the wrong size. Have to return a box of bolts with the wrong thread. Really wish I Amazon searches didn’t include “almost” the same thing you asked for.

We started the new print for the receiver and it looked much better than previous prototypes. More like a store bought texture. But when I went to bed it still had a few inches to go.

I woke up to find spaghetti covering the whole bed top. 9hrs and 178g wasted.

Turns out the nozzle tip protector had enough. Failed and somehow touched the print. A chunk of the black rubber stuck and ripped off. Through the rest of the print off. Apparently this is a part that wears out over time. I think the higher heat was the final straw for this worn part.

We are trying again. He’ll order a replacement part. Just cleaned up the old one for now. Just luck if the draw it was my project after all his printing. Bummer.

Started on his new smooth plate. IMG_5126.jpeg

A few hours later. IMG_5128.jpegIMG_5127.jpeg

He tossed the birds nest when he got home this morning or I’d have included a pic.

When I searched hydroponics it looked like it was just all the crap that didn't sell during other prime days.
A lot of things I clicked on had a frequently returned item flag on it too.
It really felt like an offload of junk that doesn't sell with maybe a handful of good things peppered in.

Do you have one of those Amazon return retail stores near you?
They're about the size of a Dollar Store and it sells returns from amazon that don't get relisted or resold online.
Usually opens Thursday thru Sunday with prices and inventory dropping each day so best selection and highest pricing will be Thursday and by Sunday they're just trying to get rid of shit for anything before it goes into a dumpster.
This Summer 2025 Prime Day really felt like a last chance sale on a bunch of garbage before it gets liquidated into one of those retail stores. Or maybe it was just something to bleed out shopaholics one last time before the holiday shopping seasons since they can't resist it a sale.

Filament sales were pathetic. Just pennies off regular price or junk filament not worth anything.
The best deal I got was on a collection of containers for curing weed. Two sets regularly at $35 for only $17 each and I saved $10 on a bulk order of humidity packs for them. That was it! Thought about one of those slushy machines but have been so turned off by that guy and his wedding in the news then this shitty sale had me put my wallet back in my pocket and say fuck it, no slushy machine this summer so I'll stick to my trusty old blender.

i got the same impression man. quite a few f the red tagged sale were items i've previously viewed as well. didn't want it then, still don't want it now.

i'm not sure if there are any amazon brick and mortar places around here, i'll have to ask around. seems like a place i'd checkout. wonder what there dumpsters are like out back of those places? hahahaha

i've heard of people around here buying bulk returns from amazon, like a pallet at a time and all sealed and don't know whats inside.

i was gonna but the shop towels anyway.. 12x12 microfiber. i use them constantly and normally pay about twenty cents a piece and buy them by the hundred. for a short time in the sale i got a deal for twelve cents each and bought a 240 pack!! that was the only thing i got a really good deal on the rest was just marked down to kinda where it should be in the first place so i don't feel i really saved on the others.. prime sale used to be better!!!

an icy machine would be pimp!!!

The return stores around here are hit and miss. Not supposed to open boxes but most everyone was when we went. Crap everywhere. Expensive items behind glass. No returns but they had a power station to test.

It was like a garage sale meets open air market. People pushing and grabbing. Things just in piles on the cheap wood tables you’d make for a work bench. No order or sections for different stuff.

We checked it out twice but won’t be going again. You might find a gold nugget for a deal but you’ll have to check often, early, and fight for it.

Two near us closed do to lack of stock. All the issues lately means not enough stuff from China. So not as many items.

No love for my Ruger 10/22 project.

First attempt with new PETG-GF.IMG_5145.jpeg

Second attempt the next day. Caught it just after the part fell over.IMG_5149.jpeg
IMG_5150.jpeg

Son has on his new very smooth plate. I’m wondering if it’s part of the problem. Not gripping as strong for this tall job.

He thinks it’s just crap filament. 😳
IMG_5146.jpeg

We moved on to other projects for wifey. We’ll try mine again later after this second heat wave and high humidity.

I did squeeze in a quick project. Printed two stands for the hygrometers we use. One for his filaments and one for me to use in the shower I dry plants in.IMG_5184.jpeg

I'd use a raft support there to prevent the print coming off the bed.

Shit happens though man. 2am I set a print to go and thought I'd wake up to a brand new AI controller mount on my print bed.
Well this is what I woke up to. New mount is being printed behind the birds nest

yea a raft or strong brim maybe even turn up the bed plate temp... different bed plates like different temps from each other.

i know you said it was new but clean it anyway.. you've had a few prints fall from the exact same spot a couple times, that spot has got to be clogged and the smoother the plate the finer the tread!

get it warm, any temp.. IPA and a soft cloth, make sure it's evaporating at wiping for the lifting action.

and make sure the bed it level.. if it's breaking the part off from the head hitting the part it could be a leveling issue.

It’s all part of the learning curve. My projects on hold until I find the right bolt(s) anyway. Son made my wife a few things in the mean time. No errors or issues. Biggest was a countertop wet garbage bin. Matches our counter and hides.

I’m going to swap it out next time I try. He likes the extra smooth finish it leaves but I’m fine with the textured one.

He’s mostly blaming the filament. IDK but it might be settings. I’m going to try again after I get the bolts so it’s only assembled once for a tighter fit. I’ll also wait for normal temperature days. No more large prints during heat waves. Lol

Not sure if the head is hitting it again. No obvious marks or signs. It was the first time he’d used the .4 as far as I know. I’ll have to ask him. His new hours mean we don’t see each other much. An hour or two in the morning at most followed by a few hours around dinner time.

Used the JB weld plastic bonder. Seems to be a solid bond.

All done and ready to test. Later we’ll be attempting to solve the issue printing in the PETG-GF.

The seam isn’t as nice as I’d like but it was my first attempt using the plastic weld. I had hoped bolting it in place would squish out enough to be flush at the top but it’s very close.

I forgot to say he can’t use anything but mild dish soap on some of his plates.

It also goes through an auto level, temp and print test before each project starts. Takes a little extra time but much less issues.

I’m pretty sure it’s a humidity, brand, and setting’s combination. Now that it’s cooler again we’re trying a few things with his black petg. So far so good but all are small so far.

Looking ahead to the next run around September. Mixing up the soil weeks in advance to let the Mykos, Azos and worm castings do their thing.

I’m also toying with the idea of trying mainlining. I usually do a lot of LST trying to get the most out of the 3x3 and this seems a compromise between SCROG and a lot of LST clips.

Soft pot clips.

3hrs per set of four to print.

This thing is awesome 👌🏼

I've been pretty happy with the quality of the prints but the web interface is lackluster compared to Mainsail. Almost considering putting in an SKR 3 just so I can run my own software. I've got foam taped to the sides right now so it doesn't take so long to pre-heat the chamber. I wIll design some sort of insulated panels for the sides eventually. At least they are cheap.
