A Turkey In The Hay 🦃

She's still wearing her shell but she's turned up towards the light. This is a good exercise in leaving things the hell alone LOL I've done pretty well taking their shells off when necessary (I've also decapitated one or two) but this was one that doesn't need to be touched.

Thinking about brewing up a double espresso and then getting that heavy, old school air conditioner the hell out the window! It was 41° last night and with an air conditioner in it's like having the window open 🥶

Fourth year in a row I had it out around the middle of August, we're two or three weeks behind Boston in the spring, and ahead of Boston in the fall up here
I've decapitated a few myself being the eager beaver, you are right, they are usually better left alone. Idk why but I'm always shocked when i get too busy with life and forget to check on them for days and when i look they are thriving!

Well the shell's off and she's doing well and I got the damn air conditioner out of the window too 😓 it'll sit here for a few days, the cat is cozied up against it having a nap right now, cats sleep in the weirdest places! I'll take it out to the garage by this weekend it's a big son of a gun so I have to two-wheel it20250819_170605.jpg

So an update on this, the fourth seedling that couldn't throw it shell off has necrotic leaves, so I've wet the 5th seed. At the rate these cracked and are growing it should catch up in no time

The 5th seed is cracked but just my luck the one with the brown necrotic leaves has actually started to green up, so it looks like I'm going to have five plants in a 4x4 which is going to be challenging, but there's no humidity here in the fall/winter with the wood fire so I won't be dealing with issues like wpm, so shouldn't be any problem. 🤞🏻😏

I think I had nine cheese plants stuffed in a 4x4 once 🤣 so I think I'll be all right. I'm not growing giants, White Rhino's are small plants about the size and shape of a basil plant.

I’ve used a toothpick/floss tool. Holds it in place for surgery. 🤣

Can I show you something? I've never seen this, have you?

The pictures blurred but I looked at this with 30X scope after the shell had been off for about a day, and to my eye that leaf was brown and dead

20250819_170605.jpg

Then look at the picture of it less than a day later !

I've seen them white and then they green up but I've never seen a brown shriveled up leaf turn green before

Honestly I can’t see it well enough to say what I’m looking at. However I’ve never seen a yellow or brown leaf recover at any point either. I’ve only got a few years of experience though.

As it gets larger you might find it was another leaf that shrivelled and a new one took its place. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve left a shell on in the past that ended up damaging a stem. Prior I left them alone. Now I take them off if it’s not going to damage the seedling. Prior to the toothpick trick I ripped off a head, they don’t recover from that. 🤣

Thanks for your input, I guess that's possible and would make sense, but from what I saw up close I believe it's the same leaf, that tiny brown speck you can kind of see laying on the green cotyledon is it. I saw it clearly with 30X magnification, I've never seen that happen before20250819_170605.jpg

I have no reason to doubt you. I can see the brown spot, just not what it is.

To me brown means dead. Wet or dry it’s cells are damaged. I just don’t see how that can recover or regenerate. But again I’m still a noob in this world.

As it gets bigger it might reveal something like a one leaf node. Or maybe it was a bit of peat stuck from the shell that finally got pushed out of the centre when the shell dropped. All guesses.

Regardless you e got a great start to a new crop. 👊

I wish I had a better picture cuz I'm doubting myself too 🤯 even though I saw it clearly with a 30X Loop before I decided to start the fifth seed! I don't know how to explain this? Oh well moving forward, when the fifth one is up I'll put them in the tent under 250watt MH

Almost looks like it could be a bit of soil... maybe.

I did not really think of dirt at first.
I thought maybe a sac like wrapping under shell in the seed~!
When I searched seed parts I found no such thing.
Maybe just dirt...
My guess is that you're right. I thought it might be a little dark for that, but idk. Whatever it is did us a favor. Now we get to watch @Beachwalker grow 5 instead of 4. Might be more work for him, but it'll add to our viewing pleasure 🛋️🥔

So yesterday was quite a day, started out quiet enough with a bunch of baby deer in the yard just after dawn. Then it went downhill fast 🤣

Not sure how to explain it but I only got one bee sting out of it so I'm going to consider it a win! 🏆

Mystery solved ...probably

I thought it was the sack, I've taken a lot of them off with tweezers but it was the leaf itself.

I noticed the 5th seedling had a brown tinge to its first set of leafs too

So what I think happened to plant number four was it also had this brown tinge to the first set of leaves, and because it was balled up in a shell for a couple of days to my eye it appeared as a crumpled dead leaf

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! 😂🤣😂

I can't find the green point thread in search? I'd like to post this in the Greenpoint thread but I'll say it here for now.

I owe Gu an apology, setting up for this next run I went in the tent and closed it up and I found a tiny light leak up top which could explain why two out of the last three strains I grew had seeds, including his onyx crush.

This would also explain a few seeds I found in the Captain Redbeard Platinum Kush.

I did this test when I set the tent up too, but I didn't notice the leak then, but this time because I suspected something was up I was looking for it, and damned if I didn't find it

We got something funky going on with our server we think.
Seems some of our history is not showing up when I just checked.
Even as a mod it is showing both you and I have no existing threads created~!
Hopefully we get this sorted out sooner than later.
Nice on finding a leak. Hope it helps.

Light leaks causing hermies is myth. Urban legend spread on the interweb and people bought in. Test after test has been done with light poisoning and stress and couldn't get a genetically stable plant to hermie no matter how hard we tried in a effort to feminize without colloidal silver.

Hermies are genetic and more abundant than ever today due to feminizing and repeatedly crossing the same hermie prone genetics. Today's popular hybrids are more prone to hermie than ever before.
You can grow his stuff side by side with other breeders with stable lines in the same space and only his stuff will hermie or be full on male.
His "grower error" schtick is to cause doubt in skills and throw blame to the growers.

I found his thread in the introductions

Okay that would explain the search issue, thanks

Disagree. Both light leaks and genetics cause Hermes imo. Thanks for the link

I tend to believe that genetics are the largest contributor to herms.
I have no herms since restarting growing 4 years ago.

Agree, probably the largest contributor, however there are other causes of Hermes

Pipe carver just had a seeded crop because of a light issue and so did chemistry

I had a whole tent of 9 Gorilla Glue hermy because of high heat once, it doesn't take much in my opinion, particularly with some strains.

Greenhouse Seeds White Rhino 8/25/25

Tent is ready to go, once I make sure the timer is set correctly to 18/6 they'll be going under 250watt MH at 4:00 p.m. today.

For legal purposes: in this state were allowed I believe it's 10 immature plants and three mature plants, to observe this requirement only the three strongest immature plants will go into flowering.

Edit: but don't tell them I called them immature because they're sensitive!🤣

Greenhouse Seeds White Rhino 8/26/25

Plants switched from 24 hours of light under the starter lights to 18 / 6 under the halide;

10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. dark period (I forget shit 🤔)

These plants will be flipped no later than October 15th for a Christmas Harvest

Planning on two toppings, then flowering shortly afterwards

This is so me! I just threw a bunch out Tuesday, took me all summer to work up to it! Going to keep this here so I remember this lesson 🤦🏻

Was out between downpours getting some basil and oregano for the meatballs when I remembered the rain gauge, I don't think there's been anything in it since mid May 😕

We got this in the last 36 hours ! Some of my neighbors closer to town haven't had water in their wells for weeks, so this is great!20250830_064129.jpg

I drove through four flocks of turkeys today, although I think the last flock was the same one I drove through going to the market and then again coming home. I usually drive thru turkeys once a month if that, so it was unusual

Then when I got home my road was full of deer, but I got to turn in my driveway before I had to deal with them

Last night at 1:45 a.m. I noticed a car stopped in front of the house and then all of a sudden an attractive young woman dressed well gets out & walks down my driveway, so I get to a back window and say "can I help you?"

She says "I'm looking for a porcupine", I told her I'm aware of the porcupine, it lives around here somewhere. I'm still not sure if they hit the porcupine or what cuz I think there was some alcohol involved, but I got the gist of it, so I think maybe they hit it 😕

Good News! The porcupine not only didn't get hit by a car last night but apparently has a boyfriend 💕 🤣

sorry for the poor quality of the picture, they were walking into the backyard, this is all I could get

[Professor Farnsworth enters the room and says] Good News!

I got to observe the small one up close right under the window for a while, the quills are in both a circular and grid pattern, easy to see why other animals don't bother them much, at least not twice

This can't be just my life, cant be 🤦🏻

Had such a mess at the sink with the mug brush, the squeegee, sponges, etc. all over the place

What I was doing wasn't working, I needed a change so yesterday afternoon a new sink caddy came from Amazon

Worked great, everything fit, everything's great...

Then this morning I turn the faucet on and it sprays me straight in the chest, the flexi nozzle thing blew out at the swivel !! 😂🤣😂

I need coffee...

Ended up Jerry-rigging a nozzle out of plumbing parts I had on hand, didn't feel like driving to Walmart, so waiting for a new one to come from Amazon next week, Walmart takes over a gallon of gas round trip, being both lazy and cheap I'll let Amazon deliver it for free 🤣

I've been praying this wouldn't happen but I think it's getting close to my well running dry cuz I've had a few sputters out of the faucets in the last 24 hours

A lot of my neighbors are posting on our towns posting board about this also. We're supposed to have two very rainy days this weekend, hope that's enough

the original owner says we've never run out here, even though the wells not particularly deep, might have something to do with the huge Lake 150 ft in front of the house?

I've been trying to conserve for months, I haven't washed the car or pressure washed the house yet this year, and I water miserly only at the base of the garden plants with one of those extension wands

This constant geoengineering has royally screwed up our ecosystem, I hope it's not too far gone!IMG_20241021_171709~2.jpgIMG_20250328_153929.jpg

I meant 150 yards for the lake, I can't see it from the house, it it's all woods

Then I just found out they are going to block the top of my street for days while they replace a culvert starting Monday 🤷🏻 what the hell, it's a looong detour around the lake

I've been praying for weeks for rain, so I'm very grateful for the rain yesterday, going to make my way out to the rain gauge presently

The rain itself was scary 😳 massive thunderstorms and several near by lightning strikes, the power flashed on and off once, lost satellite TV for about 20 minutes too, but we needed it, and we need more.

It collapsed at least a few of my tomato plants, but the tomatoes are pretty much set already, plus they're not on the dirt, they're on that black ground cloth
