Bandit on a Safari and I'm Hunting Unicorns

If you're willing to pay, Dayton and Air King make some very righteous fans.
Both of mine are 2009s and still going like new. The AK is a wall mount in my room minus the grills and the Dayton is what I rely on up in the crawlspace.
But in 2025...very spendy options. A Dayton floor fan can run up to around $300 and an AK wall mount around $60+. However you do get fans that can last a generation or longer.

It's a changing world we live in today. These clearance prices are just 🤯

I guess people have finally realized mylar doesn't do shit now? Looks like it's on the way out along with mag ballasts

Same for reflectors with this one only going for $5 and change. It's like HID is about as dead as dead gets on the retail market

Screenshot 2025-02-06 155633.png

This one boggles my mind but is more about trends and fads then it is production because I'd put these CMH up against half the LED out there and know they could do just as well with about the same heat output and better spectrum

Screenshot 2025-02-06 155710.png

Moral of this story is all the gear I've been hoarding and storing for years is near worthless today.
Like 3-4 mag ballasts, reflectors, lamps, and old analog electronics were just hauled off and sent to recycle today. Cleared out my shed and carport.
Kept all the sheets of hammered aluminum since one day I will build that solar oven with them.

I also have a few inline fans I didn't send to scrap so if interested, just inquire.
Also some power snips. Feels good to declutter all my grow shit though. I probably coulda built an indoor growers museum with all the shit I've purged in recent days.

New business:
Had my first visit with the ❤️ doctor yesterday. Doing well and will stay on the meds until Spring when I go and get another scan done.
Have to go ahead and make the big change in my diet going mostly vegan. I'd say I'm at about 75% vegetarian.
No dairy anymore except for yogurt so will be using milk substitutes for things like cereal. Skinless chicken 1x a week, fish 3x a week and the rest vegan. No sugar or processed foods anymore.
I can cheat every now and then but need to stay on that diet and see where it goes.
Tried "oatmilk" today. It sucks. Will be okay in cereal but that's it.
Also tried some plant based cheese. Might be an aquired taste IDK. One was weird while the other was grilled cheese sandwich capable.
I can still BBQ but will do smoked turkey or salmon while freshining up on my grillin' skills on things like veggies and chicken.
As of Monday I'm officially going on the Mediterranean Diet.

The health issues have me way behind on the new Spring garden as Spring rolls in with warm temps.
I've ordered my seeds from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange who specialize in genetics suitable for growing in the South.
Trying to grow a crop to fill the heart healthy recipes as well lower grocery costs so here's what's coming....

Screenshot 2025-02-06 160638.png

I also wanna add eggplants, maybe beets and potatoes too and will likely grow everything in earthboxes.

CoM Stonington is out and Roots Greenfields is in.
I'm not seeing the price I want on the Stonington anymore and the Roots is only $30/bag and pretty much the same ingredients but less of it so more compost teas and other liquid goodies will be needed which I already have. Saved almost $100 on my bulk order of soils with that.

Aero had some sort of malfunction with the timer or the pump for a day or two. Damn near killed all my plants.
It's been about 4 days or so since the fail.
Was at a fork in the road as far as what to do and decided I'd do it and give them a week. If they recover, go forward. If they fail, start over.
So here's where that's at

That's a pretty good plan. Be interesting to see a couple of the watermelons , never heard of any of those names.
Lights,gear have went along way.
I suppose I'll be the guy who takes HIDs all the way.
Don't really have any interest. To many parts, these leds are great, really cool to look at. That's where my give a danm runs out. I STILL have the CMH you sent, it's in storage. And I have a plan for use of that at a later date.
If it wasn't an inconvenience I'd put it to work now but it would be to heavy to hang in my trailer . The tent that I bought is only temporary thing.
I have another powerd building with concrete floors. And will start building a multi grow room/building, where you might see a little water gardening out of me, MAYBE.
those prices are crazy,I I'll take a look at that T5. Looks like the plants look like its gonna be ok.

that's great they bounced back,
they truly are resilient plants

now if only the orchid on my work desk was as resilient.... ugh. sensitive mother fuckers they are

That's a pretty good plan. Be interesting to see a couple of the watermelons , never heard of any of those names.

I suppose I'll be the guy who takes HIDs all the way.
Don't really have any interest. To many parts, these leds are great, really cool to look at. That's where my give a danm runs out. I STILL have the CMH you sent, it's in storage. And I have a plan for use of that at a later date.

those prices are crazy,I I'll take a look at that T5. Looks like the plants look like its gonna be ok.

The watermelons are all personal size with one having red flesh and the other two yellow. They have heat, disease, and pest resistance not many northern varieties have.
I've also been looking at growing ground cherries but before I do any of this I need to squirrel proof my spot, perhaps by going on a killing spree IDK. I do know I hate squirrels and especially the local clan hell bent and eating every peach and olive in the 'hood while trying to destroy my carport and neighbors patio furniture.

One thing I was happy to see go when I switched from HID to CMH and then LED, was duct work. I hated duct being attached to my lights. But it was all super ez to control heat and in fact could get too cool.
CMH and LED were, in the beginning, easier on heat output as well with fixtures only running at around 300-400 watts and ductless.
Then came COB LED and what many now have in the rail design LED system using Osram or Samsun diodes.
These lights put out just as much heat as 600-1000 watt HID and sometimes even more. Yet there's no duct to control and segregate that heat.
So now instead of long duct runs, I have like a billion damn fans dispersing the heat and they still don't do as good of a job as a well thought out duct run.

I don't see HID making a comeback much like we'll never see TV's with tubes and a 55" screens weighing 350lbs again or stereo systems with components and big ass tower speakers making a comeback .
It's not that they don't work well because they do.
Hell my old Sony Trinitron was way better than any brand of flat screen brand you've never heard of found on a Black Friday sale. It's just where trends go, usually in favor of smaller and lighter products that do eventually grow to ginormous size because we miss what those old ass heavy fuckers delivered after using smaller and lighter gear trying to match those old results. So now we're seeing LED lights become monsters, TV's the size of a truck bed, and wireless speakers the size of a suitcase.

I have a ton of T5 too. All 24 or 36 inch and are strips to build custom sized lights. Yeah they're about worthless too. PITA to ship and fragile. These may just end up at the doorstep of the hydroshop in the middle of the nights dropped off like an unwanted baby at a monastery.

My CMH will eventually be my greenhouse light if I ever do build a greenhouse. The berry tower is still on my mind often and I want to rebuild it but it will need protection.

Full size rooms and DIY built cabs are still where it's at compared to tents IMO. A lot easier to control environment and head room demands.
I cant imagine trying to use any of my lights in a tent unless I was growing desert succulents because I know daily temps would be around 105 in a tent.
There was a time before my room I was considering buying something like a small single axle travel trailer gutted out so it was just the chassis, floor, and shell or even a horse trailer off Craigslist and converting them into a grow room stationed out in the backyard.
I used to grow in my shed but rats were an issue at night and heat a problem during the day.

that's great they bounced back,
they truly are resilient plants

now if only the orchid on my work desk was as resilient.... ugh. sensitive mother fuckers they are

Thanks man yeah weed can take a punch that's for sure!

I learned a long time ago some of the coolest plants are not for me. Orchids top the list followed by Venus Flytraps and Bonsai Trees. I'm pretty sure I can kill them just by bringing them home 😋

Did not remember your health struggles, I use cannabis and alcohol only till hospital. Respect SS

Yeah man spent five days in a hospital last month. Major health scare for sure. Was admitted for pneumonia and it was messing with my heart to the point I went into congestive heart failure. Almost died in the back of an ambulance.
After all the tests there's several issues found like an enlarged heart, too much cholesterol and fat in my blood, hypertension/dangerously high blood pressure and a few other more minor issues.

Booze was a factor in my condition as well as way too much fatty sugary processed bad food and red meat and not doing enough exercise as I've aged to counter the poor diet. Booze was a part of my "self medication" routine but it was actually killing me.
Today marks 1 month without any booze and I'm feeling great not having it around. Don't miss it and don't want it.
These 6 meds are my life now and I'm gonna try my best to change my bad habits in what I put in my body and I don't want booze torpedoing any progress. Never had this many meds at one time so I have to number them to keep track

The more i look at ac infinity the more i like, not so much the gear they sell.
The company it's self seems real in a way. IDK, it comes out when you see the u tube stuff.

Their gear fills a void opened by covid.
There's basically pre2020 gear and post 2020gear.
Pre-2020 was brands like C.A.P., Titan, and Hydrofarm and all the stuff was expensive if you wanted automation and precise control.
But they all went under or were bought out and consolidated after 2020 with many if not all products discontinued.

Post-2020 came ACI and Vivosun for the budget grower and Trolmaster, Agrotek, and Link4 for the commercial hi-end grower with Autopilot somewhere in between.

ACI is good but not great. Design is top shelf but quality could be better but you do get a lot for a little amount of money.
My only complaint is everything they do is for tents. I'd like to see more stuff not for tents like wall mount fans, curing bags, humidors, light winches, PAR meters, and get into more commercial grade quality options.
It's not 100% awesome 100% of the time. There are firmware updates and sometimes connectivity issues. Sometimes everything gets wiped out and needs to be redone and reset. Some plugs can be glitchy but overall the gear ranks like an 8 out of 10

I can agree with all of that. Looking around for new gear has been very repetitive. Yep pretty much for the tent.
And I don't know enough about leds to rate those.
Whenever there's a similar amount gear, I go look at the company themselves.
I didn't do that with SF first I'll leave that for another day.

Here's how that Chernobyl ended up idk if I posted any of it yet, not bad smell in the jar is ridiculous doesn't translate as much into the smoke as I had hoped but gets ya rippedIMG_20250205_140853505.jpgIMG_20250118_105204119_HDR.jpg

LED shopping is super ez Buddy!

There's two numbers of tech data from the company to look for....Efficiency or Efficacy and PPF or PPFD which is output.
When looking up efficacy on the tech specs sheet you want that number to be at around 3.0. The higher the better. You'll see some 2.8s and lower but if you can find 3.2, 3.4 and higher you're in premium light range. Doubt you'll ever see something as high as 4.0 so anything over 3.0 is great.

PPF or PPFD should be at least 2000 IMO. Under 2000 is gonna come up a bit short on yields. Everything else will be great but maybe lacking the heavy weight colas we love. Anything under 1800 should be avoided IMO.
If you can find them at around 2200, 2400, and higher, you're into a light that will deliver on all points.

After that, match coverage footprint to yours then find what's in your budget, compare warranties, and you'll probably have 5-6 high quality lights to choose from.

tea time always seem to get the wheels greased and on track!! and it's something thats so hard to rip off growers with.

.

you used roots soil in the past right? same kind?

Yeah I've used Roots more times than I can count and pretty much every bag of dirt they offer. It's reliable and good. Not as hot as Stonington but we're only talking about maybe an xtra 2 weeks of base food so Greenfields or even 707 needs teas and supplement food earlier.

🔥

Speaking of teas...I finally found a good use for my vintage Medical Marijuana jar storing my other type of tea ;smoke

Looks like those kicks got the face-raker upgrade!

We had our first fake Spring last week and got up in the high 80s. Next 10 days is a mix of everything from 40s to 70s and one night below freezing.
I bought corn gluten for weed control but may be too late IDK. Still gonna spread it and hope for the best.

Poboy is looking good!
Super Bowl was less than interesting. I worked and came home during the second quarter with no rush at all. Usually I rush it but not this year.
Can't stand the Chiefs over saturation and don't mind Philly but their fans are trash. Halftime was.... IDK WTF that was but it was bad except for the chick singing.
Only thing I enjoyed was 'Zay cashing in on two TD's becoming the first Longhorn to score a TD in a Super Bowl then he did it again!
Commercials were ehh...decent I suppose. Shane Gillis and Post Malone probably had the best one.

Yep gotta have a lot of channels ready this year! Fox, FS1, CW, Prime, Max, NBC/Peacock, USA, TNT, and probably the Playboy Channel too!
Max got in on the game last year during the playoffs and yep will have the in car cameras this year with customizable feeds.
Max is one of my fave streaming services and it's way more than just HBO. It's kinda like Disney+ and how D+ also carries ESPN, Hulu, and NatGeo.
Max is HBO, DC, TCM, Discovery, Cartoon Network and a few others all in one service. That's how I watch Deadliest Catch and they also have all the moonshining shows. Like Max, Disney w/ Hulu, and Prime pretty much covers all bases and have access to everything on TV.

Still no #19 flag up on JGR's team store. I can find them on amazon but they have Truex's signature on them

Hoping they'll have one at the hauler when they come to COTA but for now all I have waving is our Daniel Suarez flag. When I took down our Longhorn flag and hung it my wife told me I'm gonna get deported flying that flag 🤣

Been looking over the pre-race festivities for COTA and aside from pig races and Noah at the Saturday night camping party, I'm gonna make sure I see this....

Rumor has it that Ryan Blaney will join the troupe for the Sunday morning show. Yeah I am so gonna see that!!!!
All the other driver appearance are meh. No Larson, Briscoe or Love who would get me to buy a diecast and wait in a line for them to sign.
Looks like it's gonna be Chastain, Hamlin, McDowell and another I can't recall. Gizburger and Elliott will be on the main stage but no fan access to them. Not sure about the concert. Some rock pop country guy I've never heard of.

No truck race this year and they've replaced it with IMSA racing Saturday before and after the Xfinity race.
BTW IDK if you heard, I think this year or 2026 will be the last year Xfinity is the title sponsor and rumors are pointing to Busch coming back to it.

I used fajita seasoning on all my veggies and shrimp and it came out so good! Didn't miss steak at all!
The 'tillas were store bought fresh but made from whole wheat w/ zero cholesterol.

We were buying that same taco seasoning at Costco then switched to this low sodium version from Old El Paso. I had only been able find the paper packets at the store but amazon carries a canister. It's pretty good

Gonna make a curry today!

That's what she said 😋

i had the tv on but didn't watch it, i missed all the scores the first half out in the kitchen, then halftime show some clown i don't even know who kept chanting "turn off the tv"... so i did!

Like Max, Disney w/ Hulu, and Prime pretty much covers all bases and have access to everything on TV.

i already pay for prime, netflix, youtube tv, peacock, and paramount... i ain't buying anymore!!!!! GRRR.. i know a site that posts a lot of bootleg stuff so i'm gonna se if i can watch em on there.

i gotta make sure i grab the year of scanner while the prices are cheaper though. i tried during the clash but it wasn't available yet,, i gotta look again.

Still no #19 flag up on JGR's team store. I can find them on amazon but they have Truex's signature on them

when larson first came into cup all i had was an unlicensed koosie for a couple months till even a tshirt was available!! hopefully they put stuff out if not you should def be set from a hauler, they gotta have stuff for sure!!

Hoping they'll have one at the hauler when they come to COTA but for now all I have waving is our Daniel Suarez flag. When I took down our Longhorn flag and hung it my wife told me I'm gonna get deported flying that flag 🤣

he's a US citizen, you're flag is ok!!!! hahahahahahaha

Some rock pop country guy I've never heard of.

i'm not even sure what to say about that!! i've seen some funny star wars stuff but i never saw that!!!!!! hahahaha

No truck race this year and they've replaced it with IMSA racing Saturday before and after the Xfinity race.
BTW IDK if you heard, I think this year or 2026 will be the last year Xfinity is the title sponsor and rumors are pointing to Busch coming back to it.

something different to shake things up, it will be cool to see how they run there, i bet they're fast! they
re lighter!!

It's pretty good

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDJCWR1?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2
Gonna make a curry today!

i've used that same season already.. same as you, had it from the packets!!!

ah hells yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! no more rentals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shit, i'd sit with em on in the living room!!!! hahaha

we got the flip flop mix too.. only it ranges from 20-50 degrees depending on the sunny days.. today was cloudy!!!

Dude, the scanner took me down a rabbit hole. Or I should say Fan Rewards took me down the hole.
BTW you see they have Wednesday Powerball now? 10 points every Wednesday!

Anyways, a scanner rental is worth 50 points. So I looked it up and a scanner with two headsets w/ intercom is an $80 rental! Then I looked at buying a set and they go for $650 but I found that set on ebay. Made an offer for $280 and they're on the way in time for COTA!
And yeah, now I have a scanner every time I go to the track 🫠
I wont get to use them up at Texas though. That's the same day as the Billy Idol and Joan Jett show so my wife and Joan Jett wins that choice.

To think about it is rather awesome man. To go from just a bootleg koozie his rookie year to having his own merch hauler this season is something else!
This was merch hauler row last week at BG.

GipTKqJXgAA0Zu1.jpg

Elliott has always had his own and now Larson too while Bowman and Byron share one. KFB had his own when he was with JGR but now he shares, like 80/20, w/ Austin Dillon and the RCR Xfinity drivers. Chastain is the only other solo hauler but maybe half of his is janky Chevy stuff that has nothing to do with racing. Everybody else shares either by team or manufacturer.

Brought the light power up today and also brought on some UV
Before UV...

wouv.png

After UV.

wuv.png

I find it interesting that not only does it deepen the blue and add almost a full point of DLI but it also deepened the red between 775nm and 700nm by about 25% in relative power overall. It's like everything about the UV is the definition of supplement light. It's not a lot and it doesn't stand alone but sure as hell does supplement almost everything about a grow light.🤘

Hey here's a question for ya...when did this VPD thing start?...asking for a friend

When somebody decided a new metric was needed to sell products that measured such info and it's something for experts to make growing pot more complicated and confusing for newbs.

I hear this song every time somebody tries to diagnose an issue by a VPD reading which tends to change by the minute.

Personally, I ignore it and you'll never see me chasing that number or even trying to insert it into my grow. You're never gonna see me pointing a laser at all my leaves taking temp readings. There's way too many to waste time doing that for me.
I still just focus on temp more than anything and RH to be within an adequate range. Along with good lights, all that other stuff like VPD will fall into place.
We grew pot for years just fine without needing VPD data and that's all still the same. + you'll never see VPD mentioned in an outdoor grow.
However, if you still feel inclined, here's the hack....Whatever your room or tent temps may be, it's a good bet your leaf temp is always 10 degrees below that and soil temps 5-10 degrees below that.

On another site some kid showed me his picture, and added a bunch of readings, like it was a bage of honor, i asked...he replied " I thought you said you grew before?"...yep I said.
Inside I was wondering WTF this 2yr grower was pedaling.
I went and found out....;teez
I wish I'd come up with it

New school growers tend to do that.
At some point in recent years when we were all hanging out with the Brits across the pond on that forum, the world changed here stateside.
Growing weed became something of a science lab thing and you'll see growers using more single effect nutrient stuffs rather than all-in-one feeding, "trick" lighting, and twists on hydro not really seen prior to 2018.
Much of it seems to be trying to reinvent the wheel but all they've really done is change the tire IMO.
At the end of the day, it's gardening.
It was gardening back in the day and it's still good old fashioned gardening today.
I'm guilty of this though too. The vertical germinator was once just a DVD case and paper towels. Now it's a whole new 3D printed tech and like everything else in this game, the new school grower is like "I want one!!" while the old school grower scoffs at it and says "dropping it in dirt has always worked, why change to some stupid plastic gimmick now?"
So it's like this...Will the VG help reduce helmet heads and produce an extremely strong sprout easier to manage than any other way to germinate? Yes. But is a VG necessary to grow good pot? Absolutely not.

Some of the tech does make it ez with things like Pulse Grow devices. I can use them to predict what a garden will do very accurately compared to just five years ago when I didn't really know what would happen until everything is done and harvested. Sure I can rely on experience but when working with a new light it's nice to not have to guess what it can do or how high to hang it.
But even with that tech, it's still just gardening and plant biology from high school science class and learning about photosynthesis still very much applies.

hell yeah man that was a great deal.. even without the scanner part they were worth it. we have two way ones for the atvs and they were more than that!! if their is one hobby thats more inflated than growing than its gotta be atv's!! haha

man all these points they're gving up!!! where were they the end of last season when i only needed 15 points to level up!! hahaha
i saw it tuesday night, i thought at first i missed last thursdays but saw on the recent that it was new.. today too. i lucked out and got todays correct!!! haha

i was looking at new goodyear tires and the bonus points too!! hehe

but yeah Joan Jett would win out on me too without a second thought!!!! TMS is a hike and a half for you anyway, right?

it is man, i do think of it from time to time. i remember a picnic i went to long ago now and a buddy says well thats officially the first kyle larson tshirt or fan i ever saw!! i said yep.. gonna root for the rookie!! then the whole firing during the covid break i'm thinking now what.. who do i root for?!?! i was a little lost that season man, they were racing two races a week and i'd even miss some because i just felt robbed by nascar.

jeff gordon loved larson and he's the real reson mr H signed larson.. he reached out to him the night he was fired. been smiling ever since!!!!!

Stickers for the truck came today

fuckin awesome!!! i want one to slap on the EV charging station at the grocery store!!! how do these snowflakes think they get the power for their POS cars?!?! it aint clean and green around here!!!
