Fall/Winter grow 2024-25

Green Crack on left, last day of week 3.

Apple Gelato on right, last day of week 4.

Green is now the bigger of the two plants. It had been about 25% smaller ever since they popped out of the soil. But the stretch and early flower growth has been amazing.

The aroma of Green Crack is a candy sweet lemons while Apple Gelato is a musky, funk skunk.

I’m not sure these are the final smells as we’re still early in the flowering stage, but if they stay this way, I’ll be very pleased.

Today is the end of week 5 since flip.

Apple Gelato, on right, is at week 4 since true bud formation.

Green Crack, on left, is week 3 since true bud formation. This one has caught up and is now bulkier than the Apple Gelato.

Both plants just finished three gallons of nutrients. Two gallons were flower stacker and ca-mag/iron, fulvic acid and golden tree. The third gallon is enzymes, great white and molasses. The difference in week four (Green Crack) versus week five (Apple Gelato) is more visible when viewed from the side than the top.

Green Crack is still narrow as they are still filling out. Apple is more pyramidal in shape. IMG_3453.jpegIMG_3455.jpeg

I feel like it’s slightly unhappy with the feed cocktail, slightly burnt tips.

Which nutrient does this? Am I hot on P or K or am I locked out with Ca?

It’s not bad yet, but I don’t want it to progress.

Using Humbolt secrets nutrient line.
Feeds are always below 500 ppm, usually ph 6.3 to 6.7.

Peat based soil.

I don't have a recommendation. Just trying to follow along and am curious: Are you feeding the Green Crack the same as the Apple Gelato and the Green Crack is responding differently?

Yes and yes, I have noticed Green Crack likes a lower feed, so I’ve been feeding both at lower levels, but I just don’t want it getting out of hand in the last weeks or.

If I can figure out what is amiss, I can feed her a different solution and keep her happy. But I don’t know what’s causing the burnt edges.

Thanks! I'll bet someone here has some ideas. I always enjoy following your grows 🍿.
 
I usually assume it is N with tip burn even though it could be either of the big 3 [ NPK].
I have never flushed but it is a quick fix to use and then re feed 50% stregnth.
Being a slacker I would just feed plain water next time or two. Maybe still Ca/Mg but no big 3.
 
Friday will be eight weeks since 12:12 light.
Green crack on left, is closing out week five of actual flower. Has a very sweet lemony aroma, tons of sticky sugar. About 50% of stigmas have turned a gorgeous orange color.

I usually start the clock when I flip the light cycle so I see you at 8 weeks not 5 or 6.
I know you said you start the clock when you see buds forming.
They looked dialed in nicely.

I kinda think that using this method, I’ll chop at the 9 to 9.5 weeks that the breeder recommends. Given that, I’m looking at the first or second week in April.

Thank you for the complement. Good genetics really make a huge difference. I hope they smell and taste as good as they look.
 
Last glamour shots for the week.
Late flower but still some white stigmas on the buds and new white hair keeps popping out but the majority are now a very attractive orange in both plants.

They have been drinking between 3 and 4 gal of water/nutrients or water only, twice a week since they flipped.

Last Tuesday, my GF noticed significant runoff at 2 gal.
This morning (Sat), I noticed the same thing. Significant runoff at 2 gal.

From here on, they will be getting water only, no nutrients and the axe is getting close, I am planning on 2 weeks from today.

Lights are turned down, probably 50% on main, side lights are off and the fruiting bulb is still at 100% (but its small - 35w). Temps will be in the mid 60s over night and ambient temp during the day (no AC).

Time seems to slow down when you’re waiting to chop!

Quick question: Did the seeds for your Green Crack germinate normally? I bought a 5 pack of GC from the same vendor (Captain Red Beard's) and I failed to get the first two I tried to germinate. Odds are it's something I did wrong, but other seeds I did at the same time did fine. Just wondering if you did anything differently to germinate Green Crack versus your other seeds. Hoping to set things up for the best shot at success with my second effort. I'm excited to see what you think of the Green Crack. It's on my "really want to try" list.

Yes on the germination question, but I tried one seed from the pack, it popped just fine.
I recall that both GC and the other plant were both the fastest germinations I’ve had success with.
I soaked in water/peroxide (50:50 with 3%) 18 hours, 1 day in a paper towel and then into soil. They were up above soil in about 3 days.

I’m so ready to give both a try. Trichs are still clear and some white. Nothing changing color yet (in the buds). There are some red trichs on the sugar leaves but not in the buds.

Thanks. I think I'll try the diluted peroxide on the next effort. A tiny sample, but it still threw me off when the other 6 seeds germinated quick and easy, but nothing from either of the Green Crack seeds.

I didn't anticipate all of that color you're getting. It looks delicious. I'm looking forward to your smoke report. The Apple Gelato is looking awfully nice, too.
 
These girls are slowing down significantly.

It’s been five days since last drink, both plants are still slightly damp on the skewer.

Tomorrow or Saturday for the next drink. Might be the last before chop.

Tomorrow is day 63 since 12:12 flip.

Planning to chop Saturday April 5.

Day 63 since flip, both are nearing the finish line. As planned, a week from tomorrow is harvest, I will of course, check the Oracle of trichomes prior to continuing with the chop.
The color of the plants tells me they aren’t yet ripe. 🤞🤞🤞🤞this coming week gets us ready. Current temp 77 degrees, 47%RH.
It’s been six days since last drink, they both shared 2 gal today. Probably the last.
Overnight temps are 65 degrees with a 50% sustained RH (it pops into 60%s about 30 min after lights out then back down to 50%).

I believe the color on the green crack is the effect of a particular additional light I use in early and mid flowering.

When I saw a leaf that was shaded is far greener than the canopy top leaves.

Not sure how that will affect yield, taste, smell nor affect but they look nice.

Here’s the light, I hung it between a couple bars in my 230 watt light.

That's pretty wild. The shaded leaf being colored differently sure sounds like a promising clue that you're right about the new light.
Not sure how that will affect yield, taste, smell nor affect but they look nice.
I'm hoping for good things. I'll bet it smokes as good as it looks.

That looks interesting. Before I saw it was led, my thought thought was that it had a big heatsink wrapped around a bulb.

I've been reading up on supplemental lighting. Found an interesting study focussed on light intensity and fertilizer dilution. I came away from reading it wondering about my humidity, lol.

Last Saturday I nicked a bud from the Apple Gelato plant, hung it in a shady spot outside for 4 days, then in the lung room for 2 days. It’s smokable dry, but certainly not cured yet.

It’s wicked sticky, pleasant smell but I can’t define it yet, taste and aroma when vaped are good. The buzz is very potent. If this is any example, probably going to be my most potent plant. It gets me coughing a bit on highest temps but nothing significant. After the plant is harvested, dried and cured; I’ll get a better report with more information.

Probably the last update on this grow.
Both ladies are looking like it’s been 20 miles of bad roads.
I head east early tomorrow morning for a week with my lady, and harvest these two.

Tomorrow will be day 70 since flip. Apple Gelato immediately started pushing out buds, Green Crack took a week or so to get the hint.

Both plants came down.
Sticky and smelly but looking really good.

One of the best things when finishing up the chop: I saw no sign of male flowers and nothing looks/feels seeded!

Eight and a half days after chop.
They hung in the shed for 6 days, two additional days in paper sacks.

Plucked from the branches and into jars.

Currently holding at 56% RH.

I didn’t do a serious trim, just got all the big stuff.

Apple Gelato fills two 2qt jars, Green Crack fills one 2qt and one 1qt jar plus a few buds left in the tray for this afternoon.

Green is very stoney! Smooth but has a kick that I noticed about 2 minutes after the last hit and only then did I realize I should have stopped a couple hits sooner! It’s very potent! Makes watching ancient aliens like serious CIA work! I’m on the case ladies and gentlemen! MIB!
 
Apple Gelato may end up being my favorite all time. Big praise as I really love Blue Dream (super blue dream) and Green Crack, but doggone, Apple Gelato is a combination of amazing aroma, taste and potency!

I never tested any of my grows, the container said it could grow up to 35% THC, I’m going to guess it’s close to that. Even if it’s in the high 20s, its got some great punch to it!

I’mma grow both of these (Green Crack and Apple Gelato) again. I’d like to try them outdoors, perhaps that the `26 outdoor line up!
