Planning out the 2025 outdoor grow

I’m super stoked about this years outdoor grow, as opposed to mega stoked last year and hyper stoked the year before!

This years crop will be in pretty large (25 gal) cloth planters placed on the dry side of the yard (cactus garden side).

It’ll have a dedicated valve on the irrigation controller to assist in better dry back cycles without running the risk of affecting the rest of the garden and vice-versa.

My intended plants are:

Additionally, I have 2 each, 1 year old super blue dream clones that I’ve been keeping healthy yet compact through the cool months (hoping I can keep them small and happy for a few more months).

Only the two clones are growing yet, the first three are still seeds, to be sown late in Feb. Aiming to have all plants outdoor sometime in mid to late May or early June.

There will also be one plant in the ground, not decided yet what that will be.

I’m getting super stoked just thinking about it!

My soil (plan for now anyway) is an equal mix of FF Happy Frog and CocoLoco, with some pumice, rice hulls and possibly bio char if I can find it.

For the outdoor grow here in the foothills heat, I find a very well draining soil mix and regular waterings in the heat of summer is a really good solution.

I expect triple digit high temps from July through the end of September. We’ll top 100 by about 10am and not drop below until after 5pm (if history is any guide). Balancing a dry back with the massive water needs to keep the plants hydrated is PFM (Pure Fucking Magic).

I’m looking forward to getting going, I’ll have the soil in bags this coming week to begin aging properly.
I’ll stir in mycos regularly and turn the soil over about once every two weeks until its time for the plants to go in.

Honestly, the two currently growing germinated faster than any of my previous grows which were mostly bagseed and some seeds my daughter bought a couple years ago from what tuned out to be a pretty unreliable vendor.

These new seeds popped open in 24 hours and were above soil in a couple days.

I’m very impressed with what good genetics are capable of. I’m really interested in how the flower cycle treats me.

My day is filled with meetings with Mrs. Sativa, she’s welcome here at any time.
I occasionally dabble in hybrids, but Indicas are reserved for bedtime, so I’m always looking for the perfect everything. I guess I like it all. LOL!

Well, built up a soil for the three big planters. 20 gallon cloth containers. The two smaller ones are 15 gallon but higher and narrower. Not sure how that’s going to affect dry out time so I gotta take good notes.

It’s a combination of happy frog, cocoloco, worm castings, aged manure, bio char, blood meal, bone meal, bio live, kelp and alfalfa meal, bat guano, Humic acid, azomite, langbenite, rice hulls, gypsum and dolomite.

Add to that is four different myco blends

At the bottom third, I mixed in additional perlite, top third received additional pumice

The benefitial nematodes are being watered in and the soil can age until May planting. I’ll cover the planters during rain so the good stuff doesn’t rinse out.

I notice I wrote bone meal twice, the second one (or the first one) was supposed to be fish bone meal.

The shade line from that gate will be right on the closest planter, so any standing plant will have full sun for about 6 hours a day, then bright sky light for the remaining hours.

It’s not as much sunlight as I’d like, but its separated from the garden and better protected.

I like to soak my biochar in microbes and fertilizers. Since your letting it age until may same thing. Love the handles on the pots wish I had some.

Those bigger planters, while they have handles, would not be something I can pick up without traction being my next problem.

I can lift the smaller ones, but those are not fun to move around.

I currently have Apple Gelato from @B2ACG and Green Crack from @GrumpAzz growing in the tent, early in the second trimester of flowering. I’ll be sewing (on 3/3) for outdoor production, Blackberry Moonshine (Dragon’s Flame seeds) from @SSHZ , SelVa (Wilson Seed Co.) from @SSgrower and KC Wolfenstein (Capt. Redbeard’s) from @CannaGranny

Initially, these seeds will be soaking in H2O2 and water for 18 hours, then into paper towels to expand.
Once germinated, they will be nursed in the outer shed (lung room), until the outdoor light schedule allows for transition to the outdoors. They will be sun hardened for a month or so and into their final cloth bags in mid May. Last year, the Super Blue Dream went into the ground in April, I think it was too much veg time, that plant was a bit larger than I should be growing (but I loved the harvest, still working through that!).

With the exception of Green Crack, everything is new to me.
Never seen, tasted or even heard of them.
From the descriptions I can find, I’m really looking forward to the end products. The smell, taste and affects have me drooling!

So far SelVa has little information that I can track down, I’m presuming it’s a hybrid, but I can’t find anything about smell, taste nor potency. I love a mystery, so it’s got my curiosity peeked!

Here’s some info via Redbeards on the K.C. Wolfinstein:
K.C. Wolfenstein is a tribute to all those KC fans and old school gamers. It’s a gassy mix of Blackberry Kush, Oregon Jager, and Lemon Sour Diesel. She gets tall fast and can withstand almost any climate you throw her into. There’s a lot of branching with heavy tops, so you’ll need lots of space and trellising. Notes of fruity licorice and gassy earthy Kush are prevalent. Yields are high and so is the thc coming in at 28%-30%. Flower time is on average 65-70 days. It’s a little more on the sativa dominant side. Effects are very strong, eye opening and creative. Extreme munchie causing

All three seeds popped up overnight.
They are currently in 16 oz solo cups, covered with a clear plastic dome tops for humidity.
Temp 70 degrees (probably get up to 70 or 80 during the day) with a mix of red and cool white LED light.

This weekend they will travel with me to the foothills to begin their adolescence.
After getting past the seedling stage (2 - 3 weeks), they will be up-potted for
A 6-8 week veg including time outside to begin getting ready for a long HOT summer.

Planning to get them in the cloth planters in early June.

Looking forward to a four strain summer. KC Wolfenstein (seed), SelVa (seed), Blackberry Moonshine (seed) and Super Blue Dream (clones). Looking forward to new aromas and flavors.

A piece of errant perlite looked like the seed opening up!

I’ll keep an eye on that one (SelVa) and replant if I don’t see it pop up in the next couple days.

The other two, both definitely above soil on the 2nd day in soil! That’s quick!

Blackberry Moonshine pushing out its first 5 point leaves, KC Wolfenstein is sporting 3 point leaves with brand new 5s just getting started.

SelVa seeds have eluded my attempts to germinate them. 4 tries, 0 for 4
I really would like to grow this one out too, so I’m going to try a couple more times, but I may be growing just the above two plants and the two Super Blue Dream clones this summer.

The seedlings (Blackberry Moonshine and KC Wolfenstein) plus two year old clones from last year’s tree (Super Blue Dream).

Still a couple months to get through before the outdoors season begins, but prep is coming along nicely.

I feel like we’re getting close to outdoor season!
My tent is on landing approach, harvest scheduled for sat 4/5/25.
shutting down the indoor grow until fall, all efforts will be poured into the outdoor area, flowers, fruit and veggies and the four ladies in waiting.

can’t wait! I never want to wish away my days, but I can’t wait to get to the outdoor grow!

This week, we click over the 14 hour daylight point on the calendar for my locale.

Cannabis plants are hardening up during the day and getting a few additional hours of led to keep them from flowering. I’m going to pop them into their permanent outdoor spaces later this week.

The rest of the garden is looking great, springtime is extravagant with color, and it just keeps going.

Up on the hill are several upturned buckets, covering tomato and zucchini seedlings. A few days under a bucket then the should be able to stand up to the sun here.

The good Lord blessed me here with really good growing conditions and a GF that indulges my extravagances. She is definitely a huge help in keeping all this growing well.

All outdoor plants (4), have been planted in their long term digs.

The two big plants are super blue dream. Clones that were cut more than a year ago. Kept them at a manageable size by regular trimming, lowering the light intensity and feeding less.

It’s rough because the plants just want to take off. As it is, both have single pairs of stigma’s everywhere. They are feeling their oats.

Both super blue dream plants got a significant haircut this morning to remove older leaves, small hidden branches and anything growing towards the center.

The small plant in a container is KC Wolfenstein. A hybrid that is new to me and I’m curious to see what it does. It’s mainlined for best sunlight exposure.
Direct sunlight for the three planters is about 6 to 7, with the remaining being exposed to bright sky and reflecting surfaces for a total of about 14.5 hours light sky.

The three planters are remote from the rest of the garden and one indica. Blackberry moonshine is growing on the hill with the garden.
It’s an indica, which I’m badly missing in my closet now. Looking forward to some sweet mellow medicine.

I searched to see if I had missed any posts from you, a couple of days back. Hope things are better or getting there fast.

The last week and a half have been chasing down a mystery illness that my GF has been dealing with.

Local ER services are okay, but really leave a lot to be desired.
Turns out she’s got a form of enteritis in the middle of the small intestine, probably related to celiac illness.
For days she was having horrible back and abdominal cramps, it would come on in waves (she said it felt like labor pains coming on).

The ER medicated her for discomfort and even accidentally identified it in a blood test result, but failed to actually identify nor treat it.

Her GP finally saw her and looked at the blood test results and images, figured it out and got an antibiotic going. But the pain will persist for up to two more weeks.

During all this I bug sprayed my plants with an obviously too strong mixture (Dane brammage), plants lost about 3 - 4 weeks of veg time, just now getting back to normal looking. Fortunately, still in veg, many weeks left and very forgiving plants. They literally had to regrow significant amounts of leaves. It was like a chemical defoliant.
I don‘t have any new pics, I get back into town tomorrow and will try to get some posted.

Never mix chemicals when you’re preoccupied.

Wow! You guys have had a nasty stretch. Sorry it took so long, but good on her doc for diagnosing the issue. It sucks that they can't do anything for the pain while she's waiting on the antibiotics to do their thing. The plants don't mean much when you have a loved one who is hurting, but it was nice to read that you got those straightened out, too.
