Figured this would be good to post up until we see if shaded makes it over with his Gaia Green write up.

This is the original version of subcools super soil published to high times magazine. You are supposed to mix this soil 1 month in advance of using. It is intended to be a water only mix. This I believe was from around 2009, 2010 ish?

8 1.5 cu. ft. Bag Large bags of a high-quality organic potting soil with coco fiber and mycorrhizae
25 - 50 Pounds Earthworm castings
5 Pounds Steamed bone meal
5 Pounds Bloom bat guano
5 Pounds Blood meal
3 Pounds Rock phosphate
3/4 Cup Epsom salts
1/2 Cup Sweet lime (dolomite)
1/2 Cup Azomite (trace elements)
2 Tbsp Humic acid (powdered)

Times change and so do recipes I believe a more updated version of the recipe, or shall we say alternative one looks like this.

8 1.5 cubic foot organic soil (Roots Organic preferred)
33+ lbs Earth Worm Castings
2.5 lbs Fish Bone Meal
2.5 lbs Bone Meal
5 lbs High Phosphorus Bat Guano
5 lbs Blood Meal
5 Cups Oyster Shell
3 Cups Kelp Meal
3 Cups Alfalfa Meal
3/4 cup Epsom Salt
1 Cup Dolomite Lime
2 Cup Azomite
2Tbsp Powdered Humic Acid

Again these are intended as super soil mixes, and should be mixed a month in advance to allow everything to get rolling.

If editing is open indefinitely I will come back later and edit in smaller quick ratios once I have time to do the math. Not everyone needs 100gallons. If editing is timed, then check below for tent friendly ratios.

RIP Subcool

Edit: 5 gallon mixture of the first recipe. Pay attention to measurements as some went to cups and ounces.

71.8 cups high quality organic potting soil with coco and mycorrhizae
1.25-2.5 lbs earth worm castings
1/4 lb Steamed bone meal
1/4 lb bloom bat guano
1/4 lb blood meal
2.4 oz rock phosphate
0.3 oz epsom salt
0.2 oz sweet lime (dolomite)
0.2 oz Azomite (trace minerals)
1.47mL humic acid (powdered)

This one should be "stickied" ... It's a proven mix that virtually anyone can follow.

Thanks for this ...

I'll be honest I have been living under a rock for decades, afraid to search info online due to big brother. I heard the name back in the day, may have even been a high times a friend had (too paranoid to get those as well lol). So I'm just kinda learning my history. I like the dudes Peter pan style, willing to help out people who needed it. The way he is thought of reminds me of one of my old growmies who passed away, he was like our local version lol

@MiGrampa it should be or was

Where is the biochar? If we can update the recipe chef, let's add this ingredient.

Is there a version that adds it in? I just pulled this from hightimes website and after just looking again it doesn't list biochar.

I am interested in the biochar for sure...personally and if you can point me to a version of his supersoil mix that includes it I'll gladly add it. I have no experience with it, or with adding it to this mix.

With biochar make sure to inculate it before use.soak in compost tea and or microbes.i always soak in a fertilizer slash microbe solution. I do this with wood chips also that go into soil mixes.charge it with fertilizer inculate with microbes for best results.
