We just got one of these foodsaver vacuum thingy and i was wondering about using it to preserve differnt strains to savor at a latter date . Does anyone use them ? After a propper cure of course.
I have used them. Only downside is how dry your material is. If it’s too dry the bag will powder the contents when you remove the air.

Hell yea dude...bags don't matter so much get the cheapest ones you can find they all work well...and yep...vacuum seal up a nice 8oz or so in each bag

Been using the same one for about 8 years now, works like a charm still

I guess how dry would matter....squeeze the bud if it has a little give to it, I'd say it's fine. If you squeeze it and it already just crumbles and wants to turn to powder yea that stuff is gonna be too dry may as well use a jar then

Short term I'd say it don't matter much. I have had dry ass flower I'd keep vacuum sealed in a bag just so it didn't dry out any more than it was, as the external RH% was real low

Best tip I can give is double seal and always cut bags longer and anticipate getting into them 5 or 6 times. The extra length helps after you cut some off to open it and want to seal it back up.

Here is a crude drawing I made of something else you can do.

Take a really long run of bag off the roll...make your end seal...then move up 4 inches or so make a seal move up a centimeter make another seal...essentially making little one or two oz packs you can then cut in-between the double seal to seperate them....I'd do this and put 2 oz in each pack....a double pack was a QP. Then I'd leave two together and seal them on the end (where the scissors are drawn) takes a bit of work but easier to just grab a couple oz pack than open a whole half pound up

To do this you feed the bag up under the lid lock it down seal, drag it back Lock down seal...repeat

I have done that too. Worked great!

One of the illegal grows I worked at used to use a vacuum sealer for their pounds. One of the owners was a fucking cowboy and would vacuum seal 50p flat as a pancake. He would pack 25 units in a suitcase and take 2 suitcases full with him when he would take a trip to Dallas and deliver them to his out of state customer. I thought he was crazy as fuck because if he got caught that would be a federal charge but he said he's been doing it for 3 years when I was there so I guess he figured out a way to get away with it. I asked him why he vacuum packed the weed flat like that and he told me on the xray at the airport the bags looked like folded shirts.

That makes a hell of a lot of sense. So long the outside of the bags was wiped down very thoroughly, there shouldn't have been any smell leaking either. A cat I used to pick up from would bring Cali weed to NM in a very similar fashion.

FWIW if you're able to, purge the oxygen from the bags with nitrogen before sealing them. The nitrogen is an inert gas, so purging will prevent any oxidizing from happening while in storage. Having a deep freezer for the big hauls would help a lot too.

Yep like a bag of chips or most other foods that sit on a shelf for a while think alot is done that way
