Starting a new thread for 2025.

Starting off with my sons try at growing. So far we were 2 out of 4 but they were stringy and didn’t make it.

This time we have one up and transplanted on January 2nd. It seems to be doing fine.

We added a small desktop clip fan to keep mold off and strengthen the stem.

These are clam shell style pots. We filled both sides, sprayed them with a water bottle, then laid the plant in the middle before closing it together. After which we added more soil from the top but not packing it too tightly.

The only concern was the root started growing downward about a centimetre but then did a 180*. Looked like an upside down candy cane. It went through one layer of paper towel so maybe that gave it enough resistance to try and go around?

Z Weed Day 3 Seedling.

Waiting for a few more still. My sons taking more of an interest and actually reading some of the material I’ve sent him on things like lighting, germination and growing seedlings.

I'm not far behind you I dropped some seeds last night as well. A new start to a new year, looking good.

Checking to see how long the water lasts. Tray works well and the top of the soil is still slightly damp to touch. Not sure why the perlite is turning brown, only had water so far.

Temps are between 75f - 82f but humidity has been high 20’s and low 30’s last few days. Misted the tent for him.

Seedlings doing fine so far but humidity is still around 30%.

Might have to change out the remaining seeds and try again. So far it’s 3 out of 8 that popped. Worst ratio to date. I don’t see anything he might have done wrong and I know everything was cleaned and sterilized.

Today is the coldest it’s been inside so that’s not it either, tents still at 20*c. This is why I like clones over winter…just work better for me this time of year. We’ll get there…

Dealing with the humidity. Placed a shallow bowl of hot water and a damp cloth in the tent.

Checked after a bit. Lights out temp 21* & 65%RH.

All vents are sealed but the fans on. Filled the seedlings water tray as well. He’ll be changing the VG water today.

Placing a tote with hot water worked by its self, putting the fog disc in made it overkill , in a small confined space anyways with minimal airflow

What size tent is that?

Was it you with the 1x1 or 2x2 tent lol?

Those printed hexagon pots
I wish they were about an inch taller. Maybe two. No computer yet to make my own.

I wanted the clam shell design so I could lay the long roots from the VG down flat. Then close it up. So far so good. Water distribution is better than expected. Will be a while before I can open it up and see how the roots are looking.

I put a small shallow dish of hot water and a cloth wrung out so as not to drip and it’s been holding at 70% RH since 9am. Not bad but still needs manual assistance.

It’s a 3 in 1 tent, over all size is 4x3x6. That zone is 1x3x2. I made it just for starting seeds and clones.

Sounds good.

This is an open pot, just snaps together. IMG_2372.jpeg

Still waiting for more seeds to show. Never takes this long in spring/summer.

Bloody cold today. Coldest this winter I think. News says it feels -16*c.

20250108: Seedling Day 6

Bumped light to 6100 LUX after second set of true leaves came out. We’ll need to start feeding soon.IMG_2386.jpeg

Temperature has stayed above 75f. RH is still around 67% after a cold night. IMG_2383.jpeg

Seeds still aren’t showing after 5 days. After 7 we’ll have a peek.IMG_2384.jpeg

Sons getting a bit discouraged with the failing seeds but I reminded him I’ve always had issues this time of year. That’s why I switch to clones.

We’ll keep trying until we get at least two healthy plants for SCROG.

We all sampled the last frosty Strawberry Lemonade. Sooo good.IMG_2377.jpeg

Later we topped some with SL hash.75796369681__33300332-197B-41CA-8A00-A6E937E7E25E.jpeg

-13*c without wind chill this morning. No snow on the ground in most places but a biting wind again. Hibernation is sounding like a great idea. 🛌

Yes winter is here, only -4c here this am, a bit of light white stuff down but just a light cover of snow. I had the same issues trying to pop some seeds, I just checked after 24hrs of warming them up and most have cracked, only a couple with tails but they are coming along now. I put my heat pad under them with a 1 spacer between pad and seeds. My little plastic containers were foggy this am so its working.

I used the pad the first round and had two lanky ones and one seed went moldy. The other cracked but just halted. I think peeking killed the one that went moldy as it was out and had a tail prior.

Next round we skipped the pad but put it in the tent and kept it warm and sealed. Got the one seedling but the rest we just tossed after a week.

This time nothing out of four in five days. Seedlings doing well though. We’ll get there eventually. Still have a lot of my Z Weed seeds to try.

The little men remind me of city workers around here. One guy doing the work while the others are on break watching him.;bsmoke

Social media weather experts and their fear mongering said this storm would have me at -10.
I was like this is Texas, not Canada. I'll believe that when I see it.
Not even freezing here. Cold rain and 40 degrees yes but that's a long ways away from -10. IDK what I'd do if it was -13. Maybe move closer to the equator would be my choice.
I hear my city's snow team is ready for action though so that's good. Gotta keep them roads clear!

ATM that’s more snow than we have. To be honest we may have had 2” between Christmas and new years. With the rain, wind and sun it just keeps disappearing.

Spring water table might be a problem later but I’m just as happy to not be shovelling or dealing with it in general.

All around us is at least 6” and an hour north over a foot. Not sure why we’ve been spared but I’ll take it.

have you guys seen the 3D printed R/C snowblowers people make? sit on your warm couch and blow the snow off the driveway!!!

i downloaded files for my traxxas but never printed them.

not for like big snows, but those little annoying ones...

20250109: Seedling Day 7

A second seedling popped and two more might be open. After the pic we moved the seeds up a bit and transplanted the seedling.

We changed the water and reapplied the damp rag. The pots are damp so I’m going to let them dry back a bit before refilling. We can look after either individually if needed.

So it’s a good sign that things are just very slow. Fingers crossed we see something in the next few days.

First I’ve seen. Lol

I bought my son a RC snowmobile he still has. About the same size as that truck. Wonder if it could plow? 🤔

We used to play with it when he was to sick to go out. I’d set up ramps and stuff so he could go window to window and control it. Had a blast. Bit of a pain to fix technical issues as I’d have to run out but I was much younger. Battery pack didn’t last very long either iirc. I’ll have to ask if he still has it.

yeah you can but not as fun....

20250110: Seedling Day 8 & 2

Not much has changed other then the new seedling is trying to stand up. Promising sign. IMG_2417.jpegIMG_2418.jpeg

Tent zone was 23* & 55%RH when I checked and replaced the wet cloth at 6:45am.

Still waiting for two more seeds to pop. Tonight or tomorrow we will toss and replace any unopened seeds.

Basement is at 14* but the heats on and heading for 21*. Outside is -11 atm.

Started making my seed storage container. Red lids are home made seeds while clear lids are store bought or special strains.

I’ll need to find or make a box that fits. I’m sure we have at least a temporary container. I have a large desiccant pack that goes in as well. Don’t need condensation down the road.
