Weed in the Ann Arbor/Yspilanti area went from $60/eighth about 3 years ago, to around $100 - $200 an ounce today, for "top shelf."
The potency is often there, but the aesthetic qualities of the weed are about as low as low can be. Sometimes you're lucky and it's not very harsh. If you enjoy sativa doms that take 10 or more weeks, you better grow your own, because commercial grows can't afford to grow strains that require more than about 9 weeks.
Edibles and extracts are pretty good, though. I'm not a huge consumer of either, but gummies and other edibles sure came in handy when I had to endure long flights.
I still see, on occasion, eighths going for $50 and $60. They are better, aesthetically, but the average "top shelf" sets a low bar.
Two good strains I've tried at dispensaries, on the sativa side, are Tropicana Banana, which I think is by Barney's Farm, and Mob Boss, by Anesia. They must finish fast, is all I can figure. I never grew either one, myself.
