What are your other hobbies?

Awesome to see all the other guitarists here 👊

For years, I played lead guitar for the band at church but more recently I have focused on my acoustic guitar skills, I also like to sing. I have a sweet Les Paul and a Gretsch hollow body that I played through a Mesa Boogie Stiletto, pedals and all that.

On the acoustic side, I have Taylors, a 2016 314ce Fall LTD and my favorite, a 1987 510 Dred that has the old school original Taylor neck design, wonderful sounding guitars. I had a pickup installed on this guitar after I bought it.

I keep my 510 at the dispensary and play the 314 when I am at home.

I have a 1991 Ampeg VH 150 very rare amp. Amazing tone if you’re looking for the old Cannibal Corpse, suffocation tone. Old school Death Metal tone. Love this amp.

Got a Marshall DSL 100 sitting in the closet with a blown power tube. Friend gave it to me.

I’ve gotten rid of a few amps. Krankenstein, Mesa Dual Rec, Peavey 6505. Marshall DSL 2000. Guitars I got rid of was my Jackson RR-1, Dean Lighting Bolt. I stupidly got rid of my 1985 USA Custom Shop BC Rich Warlock. Had 3 Ibanez PL-1660’s. Loved those guitars. Thanx for looking.

Taylor makes awesome instruments, I've owned several along the way. A friend of mine has one of those 410's and loves it.

I have been looking at the Taylor K26CE for a while now, thinking about getting that one next.

Hobbies: I enjoy studying astrophysics (stellar evolution is pretty amazing), photography, astronomy, collecting/ID mushrooms in the wild. Actually, studying anything in nature seems to be a hobby of mine.

Wow...that's out there....astrophysics sounds so spacey.....stellar evolution? wow you're with the right crowd here....lol

Black holes are just entrances to other dimensions with other weird universes.

I love freshwater fishing and growing in equal measures.

Well, I have no proof that they aren’t so, good enough for me. ;)
I say that because it's just too convenient that astrophysicists have postulated the Big Bang Theory and it sounds suspiciously like the other side of what happens after you pass through the singularity. Also, how convenient that a singularity exists to break down everything back into its most basic atomic component to be able to be reassembled in the new universes configuration.

Also really into history...
Ancient history of the Roman Empire, Egypt, and recently getting into ancient history of the Americas. Hope to deep dive into Ancient Greek and Vikings as well.
The rise and fall of empires is crazy interesting especially the ones that fall from republics and democracies into dictators and emperors. History literally repeats itself in sometimes very disturbing ways.

As far as American history I buff out on the wars especially Vietnam and WWII in the Pacific since they played a direct roll in my own existence today. Crazy how one bomb dropped or a single bullet can change the course of so many lives.
Also very much in to mafia history in the US from NYC, Boston, Philly, and Vegas

You'd have watched all the Spartacus series then & Rome was / is one of may favorites, Just recently..Those who are about to die... was good. not as bloody or have as much open sex but still good none the less...lol

Spartacus is in my que. As well as Domina, a series about a woman's point of view of the power struggles of Rome. Rome was really good and actually on point in a lot of regards. Netflix has a docuseries very close to it as well complete with softcore hardcore porn haha!
Those about to die was good...Took a while to get going and relies heavy on CGI but now I can't wait for a second season.
Also got into Pompeii, The New Dig and it's really interesting what they're finding at that site.

Anything done by Bethany Hughes in a documentary format will be very good and accurate. There's a few others too I'd have to look I've seen so many.
The old sword and sandals movies can be a fun watch but very inaccurate. Like Cleopatra or something newer like Gladiator. Very inaccurate but still fun to watch. What always makes me giggle is the movies and shows are usually done with British actors and they don't drop the accent while in reality they spoke Greek and Latin in Ancient Rome :ROFLMAO:

in case you never heard those^^^ i got hundreds more where those came from!

I enjoy chemistry, botany performing extractions. I haven’t play guitar in a while but I used to play in a touring metalcore band. Particle physics and quantum mechanics are fascinating even if I can’t grasp all of it. I love collecting and smoking a nice aged hand rolled cigar with a nice single malt scotch.

Ha! I remember Rodney Dangerfield using the high heels striking oil to describe how big his wife was. Along with "My wife is so big when she goes swimming she leaves a ring around the lake" and "My wife is so big when I crawl on top my ears pop", lol.

I tried the 'hobby' thing and it never works out for me.
I tend to get carried away?
So I settle for mild addictions that I have like 5-10 year cycles with~!
Been collecting convertibles since around 2018.
Got 3 now.

First was the 2005 Chrysler Crossfire.

Second was the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette.

And the newest addition is a 2000 Plymouth Prowler.

This year I got the itch to learn woodworking, so I snagged a miter saw and table saw and decided to build a poker table.

After watching a few youtube videos, i just went at it with what I felt I was capable of doing.

The base:
B7AA7858-C132-4C03-937E-DB233C1A0EE2.jpeg

The table support:

885777D4-E227-43B7-9293-B8BBC5F2051A.jpeg

Prelim cut of the table top:
E17FE3AF-3C65-448E-87B4-7696CBF7244F.jpeg

The rails:
AB8D57AC-AB62-4E72-83E9-A203F7B9F6D4.jpeg

I ended up having to do the rails a second time as the first set didn’t connect at the end (I made 2 halves and tried to fit it that way). Since that didn’t work, I went about it a different way. With the 2 halves, I’m going to turn 1 into a bar, and the other a blackjack / 4 player + dealer card table.

The staining of the rail:
E2FC725B-D0CA-4E02-B408-38038DBE225B.jpeg
2 coats of burnt charcoal + 2 coats of varnish. I could probably do a third coat to really thicken it up, but I think it’s fine as is.

Installing the padding:
CEBAD6C3-E6EB-472E-8334-83BB2B4FF030.jpeg

Installing the speed cloth:
DFEF7FDE-7D34-457C-AEDB-AB380F7D56DC.jpeg

And here it is, 99% finished:
8520B81A-8E98-4A18-8590-34BF4B3A1173.jpeg

I miscalculated where the staples went and they weren’t hidden by the rail, so with some left over wood, i made a small racetrack to hide them.

I just need to sand, stain, varnish, then screw into place and stain the base (no varnish since nobody will really see it).

I think it came out pretty decent for a first build.

Poker table update:

I took the inner race track out to stain the pieces. I wanted something contrasting - similar to the way it looks but a little darker, so I used an early american stain. I think it’s going to look great. I need to poly it first, so I’ll be doing that tomorrow.

Once it gets put on, I’ll be able to put another coat of poly on the rail.

I attached the rail to the table frame so now it’s secured in place.

i also ordered some chairs to go with the table:
1C6FE3B0-43CE-4CAF-88B0-07F8EE3B0D2E.png

Since I had some extra wood left over (3 2x4’s and 2 6x2’s), I decided to whip up some drink tables.

Table top pieces:
F4B5B416-3F31-4FAC-B280-15587369EB90.jpeg

I’m gluing 2 pieces together to make the table top:
EE57B90E-A29E-4390-ABD4-9948374E6971.jpeg

Cut out all the legs:
21DD945A-8DB7-49F3-804A-B370EB35C1D3.jpeg

And then assembled:
DD3E9CF1-F175-446A-A068-B08E56E60497.jpeg

I’m also putting in those screw feet to help keep it level on carpets.

I just need to finish gluing the tops and cut some supports, then it’ll be time to stain and finish them up.

i got a whole jug of change... when's opening night??

.

i'm terrible with wood projects, great with metal and so so with plastics. i've always wanted to try one of those epoxy wood fills to fill in a meat chopping block somebody made me...

something similar to this..

but with my cherry chop block just filling in the cracks...

Opening night for the Riverfield East is 9/27 at 8 PM. Come join the fun!

That’s a beauty of a slab tho.

I’ve never done anything with metal outside of exploratory shop in high school, though I’d love to work with it one day.

And the poker table is done!

I might do a few more layers of varnish, but other than that, it’s finished. It’s still messy in the pic but most of the basement has been cleaned up now. Just need to focus on cleaning up the weed growing area.
