Bandit on a Safari and I'm Hunting Unicorns

And LOTS of 'em.

I'm seeing reports that the "iron dome" is easily overwhelmed.

The good thing is mosquitoes cant go supersonic so they probably fall in the David's Sling realm of air defense ;smoke

Speaking of teas, my compost brews are foaming up a lot faster this year. I started my last batch at like 10:00pm and it was really frothed up when I checked before heading to work the next morning. They weren't taking a full 24hrs, last year. It's a noticeable difference this year, though. Changes I've made this year are crab meal instead of soldier fly frass, my compost instead of buying from Boogie Brew (which seemed to be good quality) and I'm adding "Recharge". I've read to take it easy on the Recharge, because it can add up to too much sugar when combined with molasses.

I love your outdoor garden. Makes sense that it's as cool and appealing as your grow room. Are those rectangular planters your squash and tomatoes in self watering?

Have you seen these people who train their squash to grow up stakes? Might just be old news that I've missed. Makes sense to get them off the ground to help prevent bug and disease issues, but I haven't tried, yet.

I've never needed a ladder to harvest squash, lol:

Thanks man! I've been enjoying looking in on your garden projects too! I'm stealing your vertical trellis idea for sure.
Going up is really the best way for me to garden and so be it if I need a ladder later to pick anything
Growing anything on the ground is just asking for trouble here.

Yeah those tubs are Earthboxes I've had for a few years. They're bottom watering but with it being so warm and with tomatoes and other water hog veggies, I'm often watering from the top and bottom.
They work great though and can be DIY to any size. I like them because they're in containers but like gardening in miniature raised beds. + It seems anything can grow and do well in them.

Any time you add molasses or carbs to a tea which you've also inoculated and aerated it's gonna foam like crazy. It's a good thing and telling you the tea is ready and full of microbial life. It's also telling you that product Recharge is legit with those microbes coming to life for you.
The foam is pretty much the sewer system of microbial life in the tea. When the microbes feast on the sugar they poop and that poop forms into a foam on the surface when it's in abundance. Sometimes it just takes a few minutes to foam when all conditions are good for microbes to explode with life and activity.
That's the good stuff right there because when it hits the plant, it's like giving them a bolt of electricity and they go nuts with vigor within 24 hours of getting the tea.

i've tried it.. next time try great white. you'll be the foam master!!!

Great White + Molasses + air stone = foam-party-party.png

i can say for a fact those little $2 bug zappers that look like a tennis racket are hours of pure fun entertainment around a bunch of drunk guys during a fantasy football draft party!!!!! hahaha zapping earlobes all night!!!! hahahaha

Best thing I ever got for free from Harbor Freight is my tennis racket bug zapper!!! Still going strong and used almost daily!

Guys drinkin Drew's around a fire with electric swaters.....what could go wrong

Well you know at some point the tip of somebody's dick will get zapped and somebody is going home with a numb tongue. If it's the type of dumb fucks I know of 'round this town, those two somebodies are likely the same person

My favorite season of the year and my favorite weeks of that season upon us!
Bring on the 105s, the bbq, the fresh fruit, the bbq, the Sun, the it's still daylight at 9pm, the bbq, the fireworks painting the sky, the bbq, and bring on the bbq & grillin'!!!

I'm gonna be on the hunt for this baddboy...Watermelon Pizza!!!

Screenshot 2025-06-28 092536.jpg

This watermelon I brought home from the Thump has me giggling. Weighs about 60-80lbs.
It's so big I could carve it like a pumpkin. It can't go in the fridge or anything...too big to cut up so I think I'm gonna get the barrel I use for flood and drain, fill it with half way with ice, drop this dude down in it and cover the rest with ice. Cut the top off so it's a lid and then scoop out melon for a few days.....

Next to a large for it's size black diamond melon

Next to it's pals at the market

Sativa on the left (arm size cola spears, paler green, fussy, PITA indoors, conical w/ extreme branching, 14 week+ flower time)
hybrid on the right (very common, chunky indica buds on a sativa body with 50/50 sativa/indica leaves, heavy yields, 10-12 week flower)
indica in the foreground (short, dark green/blueish, wide leaves that will thin in heat, chunky fist size cola buds, 8-10 weeks.
Only one missing is Rudy and well, I have a no autoflower policy here at the hideout so Rudy aint invited.

Getting three different types to play nice is such a bitch. Constant adjustments from one grow to the next trying to find my way here.
The needs of all three is so different. Trying to create a one size fits all methodology isn't ez and it seems like the goal posts are constantly moving on me.
I don't think there is a one size fits all the way I want it. Like I need a flow chart on which of the three I'm working with then match it with pot size and soil type then also include training and pruning for each different type and what exactly it is .
I'm learning to grow all over again is what it amounts to.
Next grow I'm gonna limit to only two strains but one for each table and each one either indica or sativa. So instead of 1 sativa,3 hybrids, and something like 2 indicas or whatever, it will be just one strain from each family.
Also considering all sativa grows then hybrids and indicas together for a more grower friendly time at harvest and flow into the next grow, not chopping half the garden today and waiting 6 more weeks for a sativas to finish out

All of the power consumption audits I did on my room along with equipment to lower that number and other energy savings implemented put an additional $192 in my pocket for the month of July 2025 than in July 2024.
All I can say is that if you're in a tier system with a utility there's ways to beat it and save money. Gotta be creative though.
By the end of the year, all of the new equipment I put in will have paid for itself in energy savings. Maybe by next year it puts enough back in my pocket I can afford a bigger and better 3D printer! We'll see!
According to the utility ranking for other homes my size, I rank #34 out of 100. But I'd bet I'm the only grower in that 100 too. Last year I was in the high 60s up to mid 70s. The first jump I dropped to around 55 and it's been a steady decrease since except for two Winter months when heat was needed.

Hey Bandit, when you were in Vegas last was there a weed store you could recommend? I saw you came back with some goodies the last time you were there. I'm going to book a 4 day trip there in Aug, Going to stay at the Plaza this time. They've some good deals going through the summer.

They are the only all inclusive in Vegas, Drinks, room & meals all 1 price about $180 Usa/night, taxes and resort fees included. Room only is about $90 Usa .night 1st day we'll get burned getting there at 11:30 pm I'm not sure the 4 night all in would be a deal then. Booking tomorrow I believe I'll chose an option tomorrow when I book.

Yeah I have some good spots to visit!
#1 would probably be NuWu. Not sure if the record still stands but it was the largest dispo on Earth complete with dab bar, food trucks, live music etc when I was there. Lots of freebies too. I bought maybe $200 worth of goodies and they gave me like 10 free joints. The joints were mediocre weed but still, free weed!

Planet 13 is another. It's mostly for tourists but that's okay because it's fun and glossy. Prices are fair to elevated, quality is solid, and they even have a working concentrate and edible lab to look in at and watch how it's done.
Look for sales there before shopping to find the good deals otherwise you'll pay tourist prices.

Reef Dispensary may have had the best quality while I was there. Kind of a weird dispo and it's mostly for locals but anybody can go in. It's just not as touristy as others.

Cookies On The Strip is good quality and solid prices. Unique choices on infused prerolls.

You're staying downtown AKA Freemont Street. You'll see it all in that area and it's not all good.

Avoid the dispos on Freemont and trust your instincts and street smarts. There are a ton of shady, temporary, and illegal dispos selling fake stuff. Don't fall for any kind of currency exchange or awkward deal.
It's convenient since they're right there outside your hotel but you have to resist it otherwise you'll think the weed scene in Vegas sucks and it doesn't.
Just ignore the people trying to get you to buy like you would one of the guys trying to get you to buy a hooker for the night. Take the time to go to a real legal dispo and get the good stuff.

You'll see a lot of celebrity branded weed products. Mike Tyson and Willie Nelson have the better brands but it's not like that weed is something special. It's just celebrity endorsed.

Make sure you have your ID at every stop. They don't play in those regards.
Online ordering makes everything ez ahead of time so you don't get overwhelmed by the selections and limit spending. I spent my time on the plane making orders for when I landed.

To enjoy your scores, get super high and go to Area 15.
The whole place is wild but if you really wanna trip balls, go into the Meow Wolf supermarket and make your way to a part of the store where there's a secret door to the other sections. You'll enter a weird and strange world where the only way I can describe it is real life Alice in Wonderland experience. Closest thing to an acid trip without the acid there is.

Another thing to be aware of is that some restaurants, usually the fine dining places, will refuse you if you smell like weed.
So if you wanna hit up a good steak house or something after blazing, might wanna spray some cologne or change your shirt if you're all danked up.
It didn't happen to me but you'll see the signs. There's just weed everywhere and people smoking it everywhere so some of the local joints are tired of people smelling like they got blasted by a skunk when they come in to eat.

You'll have a ton of fun though. I love me some Vegas!
Outside of the dispos if you're interested...the mall at Planet Hollywood has a place called Tipsy Robot where robots make the drinks.
In that same mall might be the best lobster rolls in Vegas at a spot called Lobster Me.
And down at Mandalay Bay, check out The Prohibition Bar. It's a 1920s style speakeasy behind a fake wall that's really a door. It's awesome in there and like taking a time machine back to the 20s.
Minus 5 is also in that area if you wanna know what it's like to get fucked up in -5 temps while outside is 110.

Hey, Thanks I knew you'd have the inside track. We've been there 6-7 times I loved it there for 3-4 days but we haven't been there since about 2012. Pot wasn't legal then and the police were strictly enforcing pot laws so I've never smoked anything while being there. I've smoked some Mike Tyson weed up here and loved it. I've looked for some of his seeds but I've not located any online.

Lots of new places to go to and a bunch of places we've stayed at are now gone. We've never stayed in old town before so that's why I'm choosing the Plaza. We stayed a couple of time at Bills, right on the strip, it now has a new name with Drai's bar in it. They have a pretty good deal there to and its dead center on the strip but been there done that.

I normally like to get out into the dessert at least 1 day looking for critter, scares the shit out of my wife. Its cheaper to rent a car and get out of town for a few hours than stay and gamble all the time. Last trip we went to the Grand Canyon overnight & Monument valley overnight & returned though Zion park. A great trip, I've been itching to get back to.

When I was there last time I wasn't able to walk, I was in an electric mobile scooter, that's the way to see Vegas..lol..drunk scooter riding is legal..lol....I suggested to my wife we get 2 this time and scoot through town electrically. I reserved ahead online and it was a pretty good price for the week we were there and ready at the casino when we arrived. I don't need one now but it was fun to ride.

I'm looking at Aug 10-14, should be hot, I like it hot, We've been in 124f walking the strip in July, just like an oven and all the girls dressed down to their mini wear tops and bottoms.....Ya I like it hot and can't wait. I'm booking in a few minutes...My palm start to sweat when I get excited and I've sweaty palms now...lol

Wow man it's a totally different city from 2012 and IDK even where to start!

Ok so Tropicana is gone now. That area is flat right now and will soon be a baseball stadium.
Across the way is still Mandalay Bay and Luxor but behind them is the NFL team Raiders new stadium. That whole area around there was once empty desert is now well developed.

Heading north up the strip what you probably saw as a massive construction site at the property south of Bellagio is now the completed City Center and it's pretty much a city within the city of Vegas.
Yep Bills is gone and so is the Hard rock. Cant remember what will be there next and if it's done yet.
Next to Flamingo on the north side of it is all different and that's where the huge ferris wheel is at. Little further north is the Sphere and that thing is just weird.
Fountain Bleu which was a shell and a product of the savings and loans scandal when you were last there, has been bought and finally built out after being paused for like 20 years.
The Mirage is also gone now. The new hard rock will go there and it will be a giant guitar shaped hotel.

The Strip man...it's just always under construction and always changing.
Downtown and Freemont is still pretty much the same other than different or remodeled places to eat and parks. It's expanded up the block to include more but it's not much. Plaza just got a remodel in 2023 as well.
On the street itself is pretty grimy and you'll see some messed up shit...probably some naked people, drunks who couldn't hold it together, beggars, and more but inside each place is fine.

There's a lot more off strip fun now. On the other side of the hiway is Area 15 and other fun shit to do.
Renting a car is highly advisable since most parking is free and it's super ez to drive that city outside of congestion and construction.
We do next to no gambling when we go. There's just so much to do and see. Like once we went and shot machine guns then the next stop was a Titanic exhibit.
Atomic and Mob museums were super fun. We always see a show each night we're in town too.
The Plaza has one of my favorite restaurants, Hash House A Go Go. Crazy good breakfast food there and an interesting menu

Hey, Yes I'm sorta familiar with the strip even though its been a while. We stayed in the Excalibur just after it was built, my son was about 12-13, NYNY was just an empty fenced field but the last the last time NYNY was there as was the Paris and MGM Grand, Tropicana was old even then but I hear its been rebuilt. Old tow was about the same I think but they weren't running the zip line under the canopy like I see they do now...or were doing.

I posted a question about the Plaza on a Las Vegas reddit site and got a tip that Resort World has the same deal as the Plaza at $89 Usa all taxes and Resort fees in. All those hotels down there are new to us as well and a nicer hotel room with a strip view...I thnks I'm changing hotels

that sphere looks fuckin awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! i'd love to see that!!

go raiders!

If their play could match that palace of a stadium they play in they'd be world champions!

Sure man hit me up.
I used to go out there every year when everything was super cheap and you could live like a king but a lot of that has gone away. The hospitality isn't what it once was either but it's still a very fun playground of a city.

Yep Tropicana was remodeled and finished in 2013/2015 then demolished a few months ago to make space for the A's baseball stadium.
Excalibur and NYNY are old and dated today. I'd avoid them and also avoid Circus Circus. Even Luxor is getting dated.
We usually stay at The Flamingo because it's mid-strip, historic, and mob built. The Go Rooms are really cool and have views of the fountains across the street.
We've also stayed at Paris and Bellagio. Bellagio was by far the best but expensive. Value and location brings us back to the Flamingo even though it can be a bit dingy in common areas and the casino smells like tanning oil & cigarettes we still love it.
Downtown/Freemont with places like The Plaza and Golden Nugget are great Vegas values but depends on the room and where the room is located. The closer the room is to the entrance onto Freemont the more noise and people will be outside your door.

The best rates are typically downtown on Freemont and you can get some really good deals. There's also deals at places south of Vegas near Henderson that offer a ton like Silverton and Green Valley Ranch.
My last stay was at the Golden Nugget and was able to upgrade to a massive two bedroom suite with a view for only $110/night. A room like that on the Strip woulda been around $800/night.
The best deals are usually at the property website and not on a travel website like Priceline. Also browse this site for deals on everything from rooms to shows

This is going to sound fickle but I saw a walk through review of Resort World and she's out of our league. Too many fancy restaurants and not enough Burger Kings..I don't even own a suit and tie. I'm burgers and beer all the way. I just looked at the Cromwell, the old Bills and we'd stayed in Bills twice in the past, They had the best Prime rib, huge, more than 2 could eat like $15 back then with all the fixings at special times through the day.Its only $62/night + $55 resort fee, still right on the strip in the heart of town $62/night. It should be about 110f if their averages hold up.

The old Aladdin, Circus Circus, Excalibur, and a couple of cheap motels after driving in from LA & SF. There used to be signage all over the highway leading in from LA $5 room $20 buffet. We drove in from San Fransisco once through Death valley July 2 one year we were in Vegas for the 4th. Left early we thought but were in Stove Pipe Wells around noon. Not a soul there other than the guy working in the gas station store there with an empty camp ground I asked and he said he had over 100 spots taken last night but they all left early in the AM, Nobody drives through here during the day he said....lol...well there we were 124f in our little rental car....still here so...made it to Vegas and back

It was back when they plied you with free drinks as fast as they could. We got coupon books back then with freebies offered and we'd do a Treasure hunt through different casino's for free cups, fridge magnets cards with holes punched in them, dice all sorts of crap but with free drinks it made wandering around on these hunts fun for $2 novelty items, my wife loved that part
