CannaGranny’s Corner a Thread For General BS and Good Will On BudBuilders

I’ve read/heard that. Don’t know if it’s true internet being the internet.

Spent most of my youth in the woods. Never once feared being alone. Driving home from the rifle range one day I had a tick crawl down my bare arm while on the HWY. Almost lost my shit. 🤣
First spring here tilling in the two gardens I had forgot about them from my time living in rural New Hampshire (we don't have those in Boston) and I was covered in them at some point and not realizing it, brought them in the house on my clothing, it was a nightmare for a short time. Been a lot less since then now that I'm aware of them, and this year only ran into one out on the woodpile.

I’m more worried about Willow bringing something in from her walks or the yard. She like to lay on the grass or ground legs splayed out. I have to pay her down before entering the house. Don’t want anything clinging to her getting in.

If it doesn't hurt a bit when you pop them out you did it wrong and likely the head is still in. There should be a little ouch when pulled out. We live in down town tick central and our cats are out on the grass all the time without problems its when they get into the tall weeds on the edges of the yard we have to watch out for them or if they walk through any bushes while were taking them for walks. Normally only 1or less per year on us and same on the cats. In 30 years here I've only pulled 2 out of me and found maybe 5-6 walking on my arms same for my wife.

Its hard as fk getting them out of the cats, so much fur to get through to isolate the tick and not pull out a wad of fur along with the tick, making cats a bit jumpy...

That's honestly the reason I haven't gotten a dog yet, one run through the hay and it would be all over, and judging from the handful of cannabis plants I grew outside last year we also have a lot of hemp russet mites here as well. I have a cat but she stays in, well she goes out on the porch but it's screened in, she did manage to catch fleas one year out there but we dealt with that

They've gotten me a few times since I've been here and also a couple times back in New Hampshire. I've had fair luck getting them out I've only had one get really in there to the point where I had to dig the head out with the tool. Pulled another one and pull a lump of skin out with it but at least I got it all

Had a lyme test after a bite last spring that in hindsight more likely was a spider bite but it was huge half the size of a baseball but the test came back negative thank God

I can't imagine how difficult it is checking and removing them from c🤦🏻 it was a 3-day struggle just to get my cat flea powdered a couple years ago when she picked them up out on the screened porch

We have tick and flea meds in them so if they do get bit it won't cause the related issues, and we man handle the cats daily, They get rubbed down and heavy petted by both of us during what they think is play all day. Any bumps or even mosquito bites give them scabs and bumps we have to distinguish between them and ticks..

Funny as heck some times, boys being boys loving a belly rub down front arms out, paws out opening and closing and with Qnight he gets his little dick showing. I get uncomfortable at that point and flip him over. Qnight is a horny one, he can't get enough....lol

We were there at sun up, it was beautiful. I had just bought a vape at a 24 hr dispo and stopped to take a puff as the sun crested the hills. Road was okay through most parts I only got stuck on a rock on a hill once but I was able to pop out of it without damage. We had to go slow but because were in the mountains with the sun low I could see the roads highs and lows because of all the shadow, without that and bright sun they disappear into one color and even deep bumps look flat. The road from the highway east looks long and flat and narrow but its deceptive it was down hill for us from the mountains to the highway and wide enough to land an airplane, like 4 lanes wide for miles down. I'll post pics and show. in a few minutes

Ever try Vaseline? I think that was what we used even i was a kid on our dog in the country. The idea was that it would sufficate them and then they let go, the other alternative was to light a match, blow it out, the hit their butt with it to shock them into letting go.

I bet you know more tricks for these literal suckers than me though lol

Yeah i hate them....

Before we bought a house we rented a basement apartment in a split home. Cats use to use one window as a cat door. (In the winter I’d build an igloo around it as we didn’t leave it open and it was a waiting station. 🤣) One day the younger one came home with four big ones stuck on him. Bodies that dead white color and full of blood. Only one on the bridge of his nose was a problem. He put up with the man handling but he didn’t like it. After he had some time to himself he came back and loved me up. Like he knew it was a good thing and appreciated it. 🤣

Only time we ever had ticks but that was 30 years ago. I hear it’s much worse now. Fleas Willows caught once or twice. I suspect from lying on the grass where the rabbits hang out. 😤

Never heard of using Vaseline. I do recall reading or hearing that you shouldn’t use salt, butter or matches as it can make them puke up before they release, which is when you get infected. But half the crap I’ve learned over the years is out dated or flat out wives tales. 🤷‍♂️

My son in law spins them out with his thumb and finger, He was born and raised here and learned a quick trick to remove them. Tweezers and a steady pull does it for me, with the cats hair comes along and they don't like that...lol...like ouch pulling 4-5 -10 hairs out along with the tick

Almost forgot…

Isn’t this the second time we’ve had week long, or longer, heatwaves only to have a frost warning tossed in? 😳

WTF is going on with this weather?🤷‍♂️
I think its more media related fear mongering, with wild fires and sensational headlines. We've always had fires, every year since my birth there have been fires in Canada. Its summer fires happen and forest mismanagement has created fire storms as in through Jasper & Banff. We're banned from entering the woods, for our own good. Whats next ban the internet because it not safe for children?

I used tick meds on my dogs just at a reduced rate. I don't like them but they are necessary if there is a chance of contact IMO.
Nothing replaces thoroughly checking your pet though.

I had one of my labs that got Lyme.
She was ok after treatment.
Cats do not get Lyme. We still treat our cat in hopes she will only bring dead dying ticks if any.
It is a very serious issue for people. Pretty much keeps me out of the woods here.
I had 1 tick this year on my chest head deep in me.
You hear a little snap of the skin and feel it if you get the head IME.

I can usually feel them too, the ones that got me were in my sleep 😡

IDK, it was bloody cold this morning. Rather enjoyed it. Turned off the AC yesterday and cracked a lot of windows open.

Wifey said it was too cold. 🥶 😳

Ya, I stopped using them when I saw the almost dime size chemical burn it left on my cats neck. No hair grew there anymore. And this was done by the vet. 😤

Every time we go in the house. Only skip the pooch cooch.

My son and I play with her a lot daily. She’s also on her back a lot so easy to see in the white belly fur. She gets lap dog moments we use to check her too.

Only cleaning her back teeth gives us a problem. She’s fine for most other things.

Glad to hear it. I thought dogs and cats didn’t get it. 😳

That I’ve heard. But never sure if an old wives tale or true.

It’s become more rare for us as well and we loved camping and hiking. Fishing was my favourite hobby for a few decades. Mostly from shore after hiking through bush.

Spiders love my blood. Get me when I sleep or working in the garage or garden. Double bumps are a give away.

I’ve never been tested for Lyme. 🤔

I got it off! I got it off! I got it off!

After letting the penetrating oil sit for a long while I used my electric soldering gun on the screws and my impact gun.

First one gave up with a cracking noise. Second one broke another bit. Had one impact but left and that did it. Old mounts off and new rail is on!

IMG_5964.jpegIMG_5966.jpeg

Now it sits a little further back and it’s a comfortable cheek rest. 👊

In total it broke 6 bits (4 were impact), 3 Allen key style #10 Torx, and one or 2 screw drivers. Not happy about it at all but it’s over. 😤

You see the fire starter hikers caught in Cali last month?

Crazy that people do this on purpose, i don't get it ... But caught red handed on tape

Fines and jail should be appropriate but do they ban everyone from walking in the woods/trails/parks because 1 idiot might start a fire? We are all guilty and can not participate in the out doors because there might be 1 idiot? I hear they are spraying Glycol while they've lock us out, Conspiracy? I just saw an Anonymous post about that here in Nova Scotia. Have you seen the last of the Mission Impossible show? Tom does it again but the premise is scary.

We finally got some rain yesterday here in Maine, not much but anything is better than nothing. Folks closer to town are having there Wells run dry.

It's just crazy that there are people like this, especially when the locals feel the pain more than I'll ever know about the devastation these fires cause. That there are people directly behind it, not just nature itself. Nature i understand, not people like this.

I know what can we do? I'm the opposite of a defeatist, but i get it, we can't protect everything by blocking access to all, or taking liberties away to protect everyone from the handful of idiots out there. Still it really gets to me.. this example is the best we can do, enjoy ourselves, but if we happen to see someone trying to fuck it up for everyone, then and only then should something be done. It's a system that will never catch everything but it's fair, doesn't limit anyone's freedoms prematurely. It just sucks, bums me out to see someone do this in an area that was still recovering from the last fires, and even at all.

Sorry just got all worked up again lol

This has been being reported here for the last two weeks. I just thought it was more BS, but apparently it was so. They are actually reporting the spraying going on. This is out of hand and something much bigger that we don’t see yet. Effectively, you all are on lock down. This is why you see such big rumblings going on in the US currently…many of us are not going for it. I’m thankful that we got that regime out of office. They tried and in Blue states did a lockdown during the C word. Red states said Feck that, and we continued on with everyday life. I hate that my grandchildren will grow up in this crazy shit.

What am I missing here? What regime did we get out of office? What was reported? Why and what is the lock down? I must have missed something. I followed and understood the conversation about the fire starter, but then I got lost.

There is the current regime that is scaring the shit out of me at every turn, but i shouldn't say anymore most likely if i want to keep the peace ✌️ ✌️
