Coffee

IMG_7517.jpeg

I’ve been making coffee for wifey. Hand her a cup as soon as she’s home from work.

Picked up some more dark roast to try. IMG_7548.jpeg

I just ordered 18oz. Limu Washed when it dropped down to $16, and they have the Espresso at $1 for the 2 oz package, grabbed some of those too ☕🐸

Finished off the Kick Ass yesterday. Open the 454 horse power.

It was only for me so I went a little light on the beans and the water. Not as good as I’d hoped but I’ll try again when I make a full amount for the family this weekend.

Zen, have you tried the grizzly claw yet? how fine do you grind for one of those presses? is it true that you have to pour hot water through it first before you add the coffee? i've always been tempted to try one but seems like too much involved for me.

grizzly claw was the only one from them i've ever tried and it was back in january and i don't remember that far back on a coffee flavor.

No, I just grabbed the closest one to me this morning. They have like 12 different beans but I’ve only tried Kick Ass up until now. It’s the reason I took a chance on the other two.

Course is typical but I’ll go a little finer. Some beans get more bitter ground finer it seems. The amount of beans you use makes a difference in flavour as well as the grind.

IDK 🤔

As part of my ritual I end up filling the carafe with the hottest water from the tap. Then pour that into the electric kettle to boil. So I do heat it first but by coincidence.

By the time the kettle boils I have it ground in three or four bursts from the grinder and dumped into the carafe.

Once boiled I pour into the carafe almost to the top. I stir a few times with a long fork and then cover. Pushing it down just enough to break the surface and keep the oils down.

I’ll let it sit 15-20 minutes.

Beans, Grinder, Press, Kettle, Water and 10 minutes start to finish if you aren’t in a hurry. Waiting for it is the hardest part but I like it to steep.

If want I’ll open it tomorrow and let you know. I’d prefer to wait until I finish the current one though if that’s okay.

I will recommend Kick Ass. You can dial in the flavour just by adding a few more or less beans. It’s smooth and full bodied. No nasty tang or tart after taste. I’ve bought it three times in the last two years. I’m not big on coffee these days but I/we enjoy this one.

Hey @Stoneyluv

This is the usual grind.
IMG_7655.jpeg

After I stir it with a fork I let it sit a minute and then push all the grounds below the surface again. I find a fork does a better job than a spoon.IMG_7656.jpeg

After it’s all pushed down I put the lid on and push the mesh just below the water line and wait 20 minutes.

Grew up looking for juan valdez and his burro on every bag i used to buy when i was young...1985-1990ish because back then were i live that was REALLY decent coffee and it was reliably so! Nowadays i have to find threads like this to see where the good stuff lies........I'll search for the yellow honey for my chemex! Could one feasibly add cannabis to the coffee grounds and gain effects i wonder using chemex filters?;slap

Hello and welcome to the coffee house, relax and have a cup! ☕🐸

I can't answer your question about cannabis in coffee but you're right there are some good coffees mentioned in this thread

My next purchase is going to be from Kitty town I'm going to treat myself to some Hawaiian beans for Christmas!

Had Kona coffee once.......rivaled blue mtn from jamaica. I was told that moka java originated because beans mixed together in a storm while being shipped overseas and they sold it as is...happens to be my top 3 flavor. THX for the welcome!

If you like a chocolatey coffee the Monobamba might be one to try, after it cools for a few minutes I'd swear I was drinking some kind of a hot cocoa or hot chocolate drink, and not coffee

i like having a variety as well!!! depending on the mood kinda thing!!

i've found that if it's a quality bean they don't get bitter with fine grinds...

it was a foggy morning the other day.. scooped the beans out and dumped them in the maker without grinding them first.. i knew i forgot something!! hahaha

OH this is way doable for me... i'd try that!!! for some reason i read somewhere that said it was necessary to "preheat" the carafe by pouring (wasting) boiling water through it first then load it up with grounds and proceed.. that kinda just bugged me so i never looked into it any further. but if you just grind, dump, and go.. i can handle that. don't mind a 20 minute coffee, just mind 20 minutes of full attention to make a cup of coffee!!
