AC is finally on now but yeah it was fun while it lasted. El Nino year but when we do get hot it's gonna be a shoe melting eggs frying on the sidewalk nastiness. 95 at 2am kinda shit.

damn dude 95 at night?!!? fuck..

is this kinda heat happen on el nino summers for you? like this summer?

we're having a cold day today, only 80!!! 2 in the afternoon and haven't even broke 81 yet today!!!!!!! hahaha i just laugh anymore, nothing i can do about it.

ree dudes will be here tomorrow to take a PITA tree down and haul away for me.
I did the math on this...It's a dangerous job that could put me in the ER doing it myself. ER visit is about 8 hours minimum and $500 copay plus later expenses and possible broken bones or busted noggin while on vacation. Got a fear of heights that gives me vertigo so gotta mind that.

Tree dudes will take $600 and I get to sit on my butt in the AC while they do everything.
This is one instance where I will not be betting on myself and yield to tree dudes for $600.

That tree covers my busted up patio right now so after the tree is gone I'll smooth out the rubble a little more and do some filling and put artificial turf down over the patio.
With that much smooth and level space in a sunny spot and me having a ton of flood and drain gear...outdoor hydro and maybe even aquaponics is back on the radar!!!!

man just think of all the fun you missed.. sore muscles for a few days, splinter or two, a sore toe from dropping a log on it, a blood blister right on the tip of your rolling finger... all those fun things!!!!!!! hahahahahaha

hope your vacation is all R&R bro!!!!!!!!

Youtube took down all of my cannabis in aquaponics videos and others as well but there's a few non-cannabis still up.
Stoney is probably the only person I know today who saw all this happen in real time and saw the indoor cannabis and aquaponics grows I pulled off.

aquaponics will always be special to me.. that first time ever seeing that was indescribable. i was just in aw over the entire concept.

this was my very first attempt at it.. after the growing year i kinda liked having fish. i never expected that out of it at all and they wouldn't live in that little tub so i dug a hole and installed a pond.

there really wasn't much more planning into than that. my buddy that gave me the fish said no, they will freeze, so i borrowed my neighbors mini ex and that was that!!!

after that the aquaponics was on... that next summer i went all in.. grow beds, clay, fish.. it was one of my best gardens..

Nice. appreciate the context.

Cool. My motherdro setup is basically an NFT, eh? I'm running that right around 80 with the lights on. I just add some Cleanse (probably overpriced hypochlorous acid, but was free) every time the res get's a little low. So far no issues.

I was having algae growth issues on my last setup but that's been mitigated for the most part. Black tubing for the win.

So far I'm loving that little build. We'll see how long it takes a mom to plug up the 3" lines. I'll be throwing some clones into the lower half in the next couple days. Last round of clones rooted well so I have no worries on that end.

READY TO LOAD UP THE FLOWER TENT!

Hell yeah man that system is NFT!
TBH, I kinda have a grower crush on your system because it's a throwback and me and NFT get along very well.
Not many do it these days except in food production.

Around 2010 this kind of system was pretty much the best you could buy and people DIY'ed it either with sewer pipe or rain gutters

Screenshot 2026-06-10 132912.jpg

I always figured you had replicated one with your mother system.
Vertical NFT is also on my agenda since I have a strawberry tower.
It's totally possible to stand the pipe on end and tilt the net cup outward. You can also stack the channels in a production run with young plants on the bottom row and those near harvest at the top.
NFT is like one of those things where there's no wrong way to do it as long as the water starts at one end and exits the other end continuously.

It's adaptable to beds too. Like I can easily plumb my flood and drain bed to be NFT or even top feed drip but it would grow algae like crazy with a film of water always flowing but yeah man no need to keep the water chilled. Room temp should be fine and change it out completely once a week to every ten days.

BTW this made me think of you and your ride this past weekend...The Gumball 3000 came rolling thru town and this was in the herd

Man every Summer here is hot as Hell! El Nino just decides if it starts in April or June but that heat is ineveitable at some point.

It appears we've both learned a lot and have designs on similar systems with the bed over the pond.
My shit is just out there screaming...Put me in coach!!!
160 gallon pond.
3x3 deep bed
3x5 NFT bed
3x6 deep bed
and about 8' of NFT tower inside the shed.
If this thing gets rolling it's pretty much a supermarket produce aisle

IMG_4304[1].jpeg

The new space is checking all the boxes too.

Morning Sun with afternoon protection then a last gasp of light before sunset.
Level!!!
4 GFCI power outlets less than 10' away
Near the house for easier protection against storms and wildlife.
Biggest of all though is aquaponics aint so new anymore so there's a lot more info out there and I have lessons learned like it might take a decoy pond with bait fish to pay off the raccoon mafia.
It's fun to comes back to something with some lessons learned and a plan to make it better than it was the first time around!

just to think of doing it now armed with a 3D printer!!!!!!! the countless hours i spent in lowes trying to match up fittings to get what i wanted.

still have most of my NFT setup in pieces.. i've borrowed a few tubes from it over the years!!! haha i don't have any pictures at all of that, thats the one the bear destroyed on me!!

i might try the NFT again, i'm really comfortable with the grow beds and bell siphons though.. one nice thing about NFT is there isn't any media, the clay was nice but also crushed and broke down after a season or two. rock was very heavy. NFT just takes a lot of that expense out of it.

i know one thing, with this warmer spring the frogs have been so freakin loud!!! i bet there is as much frog poop as fish poop right now!!! some froggy-ponics!!!!! hahaha

i saw a guy once that actually made aquaponics using rabbit poop.. he called it hare-ponics!! it was on one of those prepper shows a while back!! a lot of them were fake so who knows..

Frogs have been prolific here too. The usual tree frogs and toads but a few weeks ago I saw a bright green Jabba The Hutt looking dude sitting in a plant.
Lizards too. We have lot of anoles and some XXL Texas Spiny Lizards running around the yards.

That's funny about the rabbit poop hydro. I remember a guy on youtube doing duck ponics too.
I kinda wonder if any water animal poop will work as long as worms can process it.

Grow light Santa came today!!;xmassmile

Unboxing it had it's gawd damn moment.
Way more beastly than anticipated.

Ez integration and now I have the world's only NovaMax 1500 grow light :ROFLMAO:

wow that thing fits right in there perfect!! can't wait to see if you notice any difference in the next week!!!

wow that thing fits right in there perfect!! can't wait to see if you notice any difference in the next week!!!

Didn't even take a week :ROFLMAO:

IMG_4326[1].jpeg

I've been wanting to put that together for a spell.
2 Nova rails came in the kit but I'm only using one. They're gnarly AF bright and one seems more than enough but next grow I may change it out for 2 Nova and 1 UV. This grow is 2 UV and 1 Nova.

I just really wish they'd show sex. I wanted to be culling plants by now and they're over crowded.
I never woulda thought this much veg growth could be put on with a 12/12 start. I doubt I'll ever use a 18/6 light cycle again and have even dropped down to 11/14.
More convinced than ever that quality of light matters so much more than quantity of hours for any cycle of growth. 18/6 and 12/12 are just suggestions. 24/7 is just wasteful. The better the light, the more can be reduced. The shittier the light, the more the POS needs to stay on to get the job done.

;bbuild

I may or may not have bit off more than I can chew now....

IMG_4328[1].jpeg

that certainly is a noticeable difference in less than a week!!!

i was looking at it and wondering if it was just the one light for now. part of me at first was like wow he butted the two of them up seamlessly!!! hehe

love the arma kit bro!!!! i really like the kits better, because i know i'm going to break something eventually so i know just how to take it apart!!! you can always watch cats on youtube that assemble them live and follow along..

.

hey what's that green stuff you have in the cleaning bucket? an all purpose cleaner?

Hehehe that Arrma Grom is the 2026 base of our Losi NASCAR chassis. IDK what direction yet but yeah I got the kit so I could get into each part on it's own and maybe come up with ideas to 3D print new body mounts for the 19 Toyota body on a lifted truck, possibly a monster truck crawler if I change out the motor.
As-is it will be a Briscoe paint scheme on a desert runner truck. Modified it will either be a basher or crawler with a Briscoe Toyota body lol.

That green stuff is a combo of very fresh algae and the green staining from the grow nutes but mostly algae.
When I lifted the cover, a few skeeters flew up out of it and noticed some larve in the buckets I dumped. Safe to say that rez had been spent and was turning into a swamp on me.

That light is just nuts man. Colors in there not in any other light but they've also angled the diodes outward so instead of going straight down they cut across the field and blend with the other colors of the lights. If we could see the photon beams, it would probably look like a 'Floyd laser light show.

_cQxAO.gif

Frustrating grow though because they're not showing sex at all even with lights at 11:30/12:30. No leaks or anything staying on past bed time either. Fem and regular, nothing is showing and I'm at 10 days past time to cull and easily gonna hit 2 weeks past.
I changed the rez to a transitional mix hoping that would flip them but I suppose it shoulda been 100% bloom.
In a no veg grow I should probably use the feed chart starting at the at 12/12 mark but reduce the food to week 1 ratios so they get a blooming formula but not too potent so early.
But it does seem like phosphor load plays a huge roll in the flip and not just lights going to 12/12.
Keeping these plants on veg nutes but with 12/12 lighting has been just like 18/6 so much I keep checking and double checking timers.

First week of vacation has been productive but it got hot yesterday! Heat index of 117! And I got the sunburn to prove it!
Shit aint no joke. Stay safe this Summer everybody!

My Summer side quest is going well so far.
Here's where it started....

IMG_4302[1].jpeg

And now I have an official regulation size Brady Bunch potato sack race track.....

IMG_4335[1].jpeg

All my toys I'm cleaning up and getting ready!
The Santa Maria will take the most work getting rust off the grill and seasoning it. Pizza oven is always ready and the pellet grill is already in action!

IMG_4342[1].jpeg

My old fire pit is a RC crawler pit now.
Got my box of rattle can paint out and painted a bunch of bricks I pulled up from the patio to give them some color and added some obsidian from Mt. Konocti in California where I grew my first plants on my own way back in 1990

IMG_4346[1].jpeg

Anthos Seeds and Great Lakes Genetics came up huge for me.
I did get the MBW!!!! I guess I got the last pack of that stuff but I'm pretty sure it's an OG alien in disguise.
IDK anything about the freebies Test Pilot and Couch Surfer but they sound fun. Bluebell gives me a grower boner with that potential.
Lots of hashplant stuff too. Combined with my other orders I'm so loaded up on HP and hazey chara plants it's ridiculous but that's what I'm riding with into prohibition!
