I'm looking at buying a Rosin press to make my own carts. This was the first video I've seen that showed how to do it. You question the viability of this method......I know Knot.....So I go look more..lol.....another video of the same technique was used. It looks simple, no additives just rosin and heat. Is there something I'm missing? .....lol......other than that. I watched this one and it shows the same method.. I put this press in my cart. Not a lot of reviews on it and a couple say junk but others say it works fine...any thoughts?

I’ve been wanting one for a couple years now but the cost to get setup and started is pretty high.

Every time I make hash in my pollen press and oven some juice gets caught in a corner or oozes out. Reminds me of what Bandit and Stoney are able to do.

One day maybe.

i'll try it.. i am just not confident that just heating the rosin is what refines it. i have all the things to give it a try so i will.

the only limiting factor i see with that press is the size of the plates. i feel limited at my 3" so that 2.3 kinda worries me. without a bag that size might press 2 grams of flower at a time. not sure how much in a bag, i use the small 1.5" bags and still over squish my 3" wide plate sometimes. without a bag i can go 3.2 grams of flower and it will fill my 3x5 plate. the size of the ram or hydraulics doesn't matter that much, pretty much any hydraulic jack puts enough pressure to squish buds. i overkilled mine but that was because i wanted a gauge on it.

but if just heating it up to 180° for a day or two refines it than i'm all in.. i wonder what happens to the impurities in the rosin to make it so translucent?? they're trying to tell me that just heating it to 180 for a day changes the composition of the rosin and keeps it from drying hard the next day? i gotta see this for myself.

i could go on and on why i don't think it would work but before i do i will give it a try in the next couple days.. i'm almost out of squish so i gotta press more anyway. and it's not like i don't have a toaster oven just inches above my press and all....

I’ll see if I can find a vid on it. Sounds easy but messy. I’ve only used a bit of rosin or butter/diamonds my sons grabbed from a dispensary.

alright guys, some Golden Goat squished and in the oven. it's bouncing between 168° and 183°... it's a shitty oven.. i assume i let it go for at least 24 hours until the bubbles stop if i listened correctly. we'll see what happens..

oops, i missed that part. haha

did you happen to catch for how long? was it 24 hours minimum then until bubbles stopped? or was it just until bubbles stopped and might not even take the 24 hours?

how do you currently smoke/vape concentrates? i mean i wouldn't wait till i could make carts to get a press.. even if this doesn't work in the cart i'm still smokin it!!! haha

so in a short and exciting answer: Yes, this method works 100%. you guys saw what i did.. crude and rude and not much effort. but yeah it works. i put five grams in that dab jar and put it in my terribly unsteady oven and after a day i sucked it into a syringe and loaded some in a cart and it vapes, holds flavor, and gives big huge clouds.



it got dark which i fully expected.. after loading the cart and 3ml backup i have this left over to dab with...



i'd like to try again and put luv into it.. better consistent heat with a good sealed lid and good quality cart.. i used a cheapo that i didn't care about and it's not ceramic.

one step they didn't show is you may have to heat up the cart a little in the oven to get it to start wicking, i did.

What type of jar and lid did they use? Anything I have that’s glass has a plastic lid or rubber seal around the lid so not oven safe.

This is interesting enough to try at least once. Unfortunately we tossed our toaster oven decades ago when we got rid of things we no longer use.

If it’s already squished what’s the point of baking it for a day, to break it down further so it’s more liquidized?

I think they said 24hrs or close to 24. until the bubbles stopped forming. I smoke like chimney 10-15 J/day 3-4 at back to back. Then a hit or 2 off a government sold vape at $50/gram....fkin yikes but they are 99% THC and hit hard. I'd like to make my own. I bought a 2 Gram cart off the Natives a few days ago and its shit $40-2 grams but feels like 50% shit after smoking the gov stuff.

I've been looking at the presses but they get far to expensive fast. I'm not paying no $1000 bucks for a press but I don't want cheap crap either. I was looking yesterday which of these would work best.......Canadian pricing.

the first video was not pro and he just had it in a cosmetic glass with metal lid. the second video was from nug smasher themselves and their channel. they were promoting their all metal container that gets set in the press and heated with the plates for a day. good way to wear out a $5K press if you ask me.

i personally don't think the vessel is all that important is only 180°F. i don't have any proof but i strongly believe my oven went higher than that. i press the buds around that same temp.

it stays globby in the tube, i've been using the syringe to load it in my dabber.. just squeeze out a dab and fire it up!!!
if i just left the squish out in the air the next day it would be dry and crumbly. even sealing it in a silicon ja still drys t out a little.

so after cooking it a long time it keeps it loose even after it cools.

imo they're the best in the biz but also the most expensive. Bandit has a nice one but said he felt they kind of took advantage of their trade in guarantee. he upgraded last year and didn't get nearly as much for the old one as they led on. it kind of stung at the time and i don't think he's as much as a fan of the company anymore. i'm jelly of those 4" pates for sure!!!! i should have upgraded years ago, now the ones i want are no longer available.

thought about machining my own quite a few times. i'm not an expert but i can mill out a rectangle block of aluminum and bore some holes in it!! my buddy has a nice bridgeport.. i'm sure i could trade weed for machine time.

I use my wife’s old face cream jars after I clean them but they have plastic lids. She doesn’t use much makeup. They are a good size for hash and kief.

i have ones with metal lids that seal air tight i can use. i'd really be interested in trying something all steel like nug smasher sells, i think it would hold the heat more consistent and even. not sure the lid even matters.

I believe mine are air tight as well. Never had a reason to test but hash and kief stay pretty much the same even after months. (I don’t burn through hash but rather savour it and use it on occasion.)

The plastic lid has a foam underlay that seals it tight but it took a while to clean it enough it no longer smelled like the cream. Then I make it sterile and dry it for later use. I have about three more empty and waiting.


It’s thick like the smaller jars so if no lid is required they should do.

I put parchment paper inside my square press and make it into a box shape. Then fill it with the kief. I fold all of the sides over the top spot won’t leak and cut of any extra until it’s nice and neat like a Christmas present. Then the top of the press hold it all in place and I stick it in the oven. After 15-20 minutes I bring it to the vice and tighten by feel. Then it goes into the freezer for a while.

After the second time I accidentally squished rosin out the bottom and scraped it off frozen I started wondering if I could drill a hole in the die/press to let rosin leak out in one spot to catch. But I don’t want to muck the dies up so dismissed the idea.

I’m beginning to regret giving the toaster oven to the Salvation Army.

Alls good but I've been lazy and abusing my plants lately. A transplant today and some maintenance so they should heal up and do fine. I'm in no hurry for a harvest so I've time to get them back on track
