After several years of hiatus from making my own carts I'm jumping back into it. I got out because the thinning agents and terps were dodgy and possibly not safe to vape so I quit but that was when it was very early in the day of DIY carts.

FWIW I'm using rosin derived from flower, not kief and I want to avoid using propylene glycol or veggie glycerin

Today I think there's better and safer options not around when I first made my own carts.

I'm giving heavy consideration to using hemp derived terps as a thinning agent over all other options. Anybody else use them? They're the most expensive choice by what I see but if cost equates to a safer end product I'm down with that.

Anybody using Everclear and winterizing wax into a liquid? I don't like the idea of using a solvent but the alcohol does burn off and I think I'd be left with nothing but liquid rosin after.

I'm pretty sure I have all the equipment that's needed...Digital control heat pad, borsilicate glass syringes with blunt tip needles, small glass jars, and wax tools. Anything else I'm missing?

Talk to me Goose!

Reds got a thread somewhere I’ll see if I can find it ? I think he was asking about the cart itself ? But you guys need to be I. The same place so I can copy y’all ! Lol seriously I’ve never made em cuz of the exact reasons you stated but I also agree it’s 2023 and we should have the tech !

I've made up solution to inject into empty carts but don't remember the recipe very well. I remember terpenes and essential oils being part of the recipe.

I did it for the same reasons being PG and PGE makes for a hard hit.

Yeah I think it mayb on the farm ? But seems to me uses both everclear quick wash and rosin with a liquidized and terps or even just the terps ?

We used drysift rosin at the farm we used to work at.you need to winterize it or the fats and waxes will plug up about half way through.unless they have some fancy new carts that run it.i havnt made them in about a year .I can give you the recipe I used if you can't find one.

Sure post up the recipe in case I'm missing something
Are you familiar with the winterization process?

What I understand is this but I've never done it....

10:1 ratio of Everclear to rosin
Heat and mix thoroughly at 90*F
Fats and wax should begin to separate within minutes.
When they're very well separated, put the mixture in the freezer for 14 hours
After 14 hours the fats and wax should be settled at the bottom
Use a syringe to pull the liquid off the top
Push the liquid thru a .22 micron syringe filter into a different glass vessel

More refinement can be achieved by putting it on low heat and stirring for several hours
Even more refinement can be done by placing a glass jar over the rosin making a dome and heating it at 200*F for 2 hours
I also have a vacuum chamber for purging BHO which could also be used to get better refinement after the .22 micron filter

For winterization just throw rosin in 10:1 everclear.it will dissolve at room temp in a few hours if you don't want to heat it.after it disolves put in freezer 24 hours colder the better.filter in the freezer after 24 hours using three coffee filters stacked on top each other.leave it in the freezer while it's filtering.i would just use chip clips to hold the coffee filters on top of a pirex 2 cup measuring container.spray the coffee filters with a little everclear so they are wet before filtering.it will take a few hours but it will come out crystal clear.

Once its clean evape the alchol.we had a rotovape so we could reclaim everclear.source turbo makes a little counter top unit that works great for smaller batches. Right at the end right before all the alchol was evaped. Its still a little liquidy I would dump into a small pirex bowl on a electric gridle. I would cook off the remaining alchol and decarb the oil in this pirex bull.

Once you have your decarbed winterized rosin flower your ready for terps .transfer your oil into your mixing vessel.i would use little heat resistant baby food jars. place them into a water bath in a large glass pirex baking pan on electric gridle.heat until the oil is liquid again.it is strain specific but most strains of rosin will flow with .10 mill of terps added back to every gram.if it doesn't flow and it tastes like burnt coil bump it up.10 mill at a time until you find your sweet spot.,but 90% will run good at .10 mill in ccell cartridges. To much it will be to thin and leak .I would use 1 mill blunt tip syringes from duda energy to add terps.stir your terps into heated oil stir throughly make sure it is hot enough to get it nice and runny.use 1 mill blunt tip syringe to fill carts.hold onto the tip of syringe so the thickness of the oil dosn't push it off as you fill.allow them to settle for about 10 min top off with remaining oil after the coil absorbs some.put on cap alow to sit overnight.enjoy

Some of the strains that were super greasy would run with only .05 added back.but .10 is a good starting point for most.

I don't remember the name of the terp company .I will try to find it in my notes. They used a few different brands. The higher end the better.

I placed an order thru Earthy Now.
All their terps are coming from Oregon CBD, a hemp farm, so these will be cannabis/hemp derived.
I'd like to keep the terps in the cannabis family rather than getting some derived from other sources.
But yeah I ordered 15mil of Lifter, a clove, wood, & fruit HDT

I'm making very small batches at a time working with maybe 5-10 grams of rosin per run and only filling a handful of carts at a time

Seems simple enuff gotta try it sometime now

I started this project today with some long time hi temp squishin'

5minutes @ 210*F

Average is 1gram wax per 4 grams of flower and to start the project I'm working with a 5 gram chunk cut in half to make 2 gram batches of oil at a time

I'm doing a heat cure + terps to start then I may venture into the Winterizing technique if this doesn't get what I want.
So I've cut the chunk in half, placed it in a dab jar then put the dab jar in another larger jar with sealing lid then placed it on my heat mat at 150*F
I'll pull it from the heat when all the bubbles are gone then start mixing in terps to thin it even more

I just break them on accident too much. Im more the roll around with a rig n torch type....hanging out the sunroof ya know

Turned out way stronger than what I've bought from weed stores. If this was coffee it'd be espresso. Dark and heavy hitting. Moderate lung expansion, no burn, huge clouds, whollup hit at first then gets heavier with a creeper effect.
The HDT terps did little to add a flavor difference unless it's just matched well with the strain. Tastes just like it's budder sister but intensified

How much terps did you use?what kinda carts? That will be super cool if it dosnt clog without winterizing. Mine always clogged about half way through. Great job.keep us posted if you can. I Would love to make them without winterizing (pain in the butt).

5 drops to 2 grams of oil, kept it at 90-105 for about 30 hours giving it a stir about once every hour. It's very fluid so I may have been able to get away with only 4 drops. I was also surprised at how well the heat cure worked. I expected thick sludge but it had some flow and just needed to be thinned a little before it could be drawn in a syringe

Here's the link to my carts. They're from Pulsar and I got the wood tip but they have others
