My first grow - Tangie Dream & Black Mimosa

Hi guys! Glad to be here. I know with these pictures I have some explaining to do. This is my first ever grow in an attempt to become self reliant with my medication. I’ve messed up I bet, in fact I know. But I have three healthy plants in flower right now. Day 36. I’ll get some photos for you when the lights turn on. I’m growing in a 2 x 2 x 4 tent in my closet. I plan to add a second tent after I harvest this first grow. Or maybe right before depending on finances and timing. I want to start mother plants and turn this operation into a perpetual grow with a veg tent and a flower tent. I’ll be taking clones instead of starting from seed and hoping to harvest every three months or so. Small manageable harvests of quality bud grown with love. If I can get an elbow and a half a year I’ll be set.

So the pictures. Obviously a seedling in the one picture from the start of this grow. Another pic of all three plants in veg and crying out for help. Then there is the flower that I cut from a lower branch two weeks ago and just couldn’t throw away. It sat in my desk and made me smile until my cat decided it was a decent appetizer.

Anyways, so excited to be here and to learn as much as possible. Thank you all for allowing me to join and be part of this awesome community.

Plants look good for your first grow, great job! Glad you are here and we have lots of great soil growers too including steamroller.

Great growers are always learning, you will be there one day! It's a great feeling to be self sufficient with your own meds took me a while but I am there now thanks to many of the great folks here at Bud Builders who have helped me along the way.

Thanks! I came into growing thinking it was all about the end product, but I’ve realized how much therapy there is in the growing process. Keeps me out of other trouble lol gives me something to obsess over. And there is endless things to learn

First time buying seeds and I ended up going with Captain Redbeard out of Oregon. He has a tangie dream strain that piqued my interest and he seemed like a reputable seed breeder who loves pets (the few dogs in his pictures gave me the confidence to buy). He threw in some freebie Black Mimosas too.
They’re both photos. Currently have two TDs and one Black mimosa going. Only growing three because one tangie dream took 7 days to sprout and as a beginner I panicked and germinated another .
The tangie dream is a sativa cross of tangie and blue dream. Black mimosa is a supposed to be an indica cross of black domino and chocolate mimosa.
Both with flowering times estimated around 60 days. Expecting a bit longer for sure.

Oh that’s good news. There is so much crap to sort through. Feeling relieved at this.
He has some really interesting strains. I’m a sucker for the cheeses too. He has an OG skunk I wouldn’t mind either.

Got 4 more Anesia strains coming down the pike, Blackberry Moonrocks, Oracle Octane, Sleepy Joe, and Dankberry. Quality genetics make a lot of difference if you are going to take the time and spend the money, get the best you can afford.

I know that buying seeds can become as addicting as collecting anything else (I have that type of personality lol), so I’m really hoping to spend a few years pheno hunting and then picking a couple Mothers to rely on. But who knows.

Compounds Apples and Bananas is so dank.

It was a clone of the plant i pollinated, so from the seed you sent me.
Definitely a solid cross man, i dont think youll be disappointed when you run it.

All right, the lights are on and I was able to get pictures of the girls. And my dog.
May be experiencing a bit of Fox tailing on these buds. 36 days into flower. I defoliated at 19 and 34 days. Don’t plan to touch them the rest of the way unless a leaf is covering a bud.
Freaked out yesterday and thought I had seeds forming. I’m still not satisfied but I think I was just confusing female parts that are bulging a bit, idk. Definitely no hard cased seeds to be found. Fingers crossed.
I’m watering based on weight and feel, no schedule.
Got the spider farmer sd1000 (might be a little off there). Plan to get a second tent, matching equipment. Run two tents in this tiny closet. It used to be a fireplace so there is an exhaust through the roof and brick flooring. Plan to remove excess heat and moisture out the top with an exhaust fan. Will be getting the second tent in a month or so. Will be the start of a perpetual grow.

Thank you! What a community here. Glad I found the place. I was beginning to feel isolated in my grow. My wife loves that I have a hobby, but she zones out the second I start talking about the plants which is fair enough. Haven’t looked for any type of feedback before, I’ve just been over on reddit silently being thankful my plants are turning out better than most of what I saw over there lol. Still a finish line to cross though!

Will have seeds for sure in the end. Gonna let it finish and then spend some time dialing in my set up without any plants? Idk. Bummer. I’m too stunned to process really. First grow though. Knew I had mistakes. Learned some I think. Lotta questions though. Can’t believe I just came on here to post, first time sharing, and this is all I have for you guys. I’ll post some sad pics of the girls tomorrow when I water

I believe it is genetics.
Get some good seeds and start again after this with no fear.

Will have seeds for sure in the end. Gonna let it finish and then spend some time dialing in my set up without any plants? Idk. Bummer. I’m too stunned to process really. First grow though. Knew I had mistakes. Learned some I think. Lotta questions though. Can’t believe I just came on here to post, first time sharing, and this is all I have for you guys. High hopes, friend. I spent hours plucking pollen sacs on my first try. Luckily, my diligence paid off. Keep your head up. Like you said, "free seeds"

Turn off your fans. Spray them (plants) down with water to kill the pollen. Means they will ripen much quicker if they got pollinated. Happened to me once. Not all is lost, just won’t get as big, may have a few seeds and may lose a bit of potency.

One of the many things I learned from you.

When I do another seed pop round if, or when, males show up I'll spray down the tent first to reduce pollination then remove the males. The spray down will also help reduce the effects of any stray pollen that gets away while culling the males.

It's all part of the game, next run you'll already be more prepared and knowledgeable so it's a necessary process when working with this plant. As ray would say "that's the way she fuckin goes boys, the way she goes"

Could be genetic could be grower error, that's the hard part is really figuring out why. Start with light leaks, assume some light is getting in and check your tent vigilantly. Get in it and zip it up with the lights off inside and the tent see if light from outside the tent comes in. My tent is dark from 8pm to 8am, but sunrise is usually 7am or earlier so I would check mine at sunrise ya know but when my tent is still supposed to be pitch black just to make sure no sunlight is getting in either. After that I would put anything electronic you may have in the the tent over night in and turn it all on and same thing sit in there with it a good 5 or 10 mins let your eyes adjust and see if these electronic devices are putting off any glow of light..I'm talking things like a dehu, heater, humidifier...stuff like that. I would also check out your light after the timer goes off....some lights for some reason don't fully shut off they get like a little juice to them and produce a low glow for some reason. Only thing you could do to possibly fix that if you have a light that does it, would be to have it on a mechanical or digital timer that 100% kills all power to the light when it's supposed to be off. I've heard of people having issues with lights that do this, personally if I had a light that did it id manually plug it in and manually unplug it until I bought a new one that didn't do that, as it's a huge pain in the butt.

Just some tips you may find useful

Also black gel nail polish will fill pinholes in tents pretty nicely

I gave myself the evening to be bummed. Woke up today and started making a plan… that’s all I can do. Going to finish what I started, learn, fix a bunch of things, and start again
If folks have had good luck with captain redbeard genetics, then I’m thinking this is user error on my end. I have a list of about 20 things that went wrong.. lol so in all reality I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I was definitely naive.
That’s the way she goes! Away we go again
