A new dawn.

Why can’t you smoke bro?
I'm speaking for myself with my answer ... age related lung issues (COPD/Emphysema for example) has me down to smoking less than an 1/8th a week. My edible consumption has greatly increased as my smoking has decreased. I'm also not really that old at 60. By 70, I might not be smoking at all.

Must be an age thing, 62. 😉

I would much rather eat cannabis than smoke it but my body figured out how to process it fast without getting me high. I used RSO daily for years to battle chronic pain. I built a tolerance and was using a gram of RSO in one dose every day. It just stopped working. Now I can go like a year with no edibles and I can eat a 500mg edible and barely feel anything. It sucks.

Tried a buddies vape, made me cough for a month. Its either edibles or turn to drink. 🤣
Have you tried Mullen? Apparently smoking dried Mullen leaves has some amazing clearing effects on your lungs. Or even using tinctures. There are whole Facebook groups dedicated to it. I read about one lady’s husband that was dying of lung cancer and when he smoked Mullen he said it felt like he got a new pair of lungs! I guess it makes you cough for a little then you can breathe! You might want to look into it!

Any smoke or dust makes me cough badly now, and not just ten minutes, for weeks, over the last year I've tried most things, but smoke of any kind is the worst. This is why I've been absent from the forums for such a long time, only one solution still open to me, and that is to munch it or give up. 👌

Good morning to all you tokers and growers, and how are you all on this sunny but very frosty morning, hope your all well. :) This week see's us strain the last jar of the four, jar 1 week 4. This week saw me testing the week 1 jar against the week 4 jar, just to see if the difference is worth the extra three weeks of messing about, and I have to say, the week 4 jar kills the week 1, the difference in potency is massive, you can get a nice hit from the week 1 jar, but the week 4 kicks its ass, and justifies a sit down. 😁 This makes me smile, as I like others, I thought all the messing about was a waste of time, but it turns out its not, classic case of you get back what you put in. 👍 So from this month of experiments all my future jars will be stirred for a month, thing that surprised me was the colour, it never seemed to get any darker after the second week really, I thought I'd be slurping fresh seaweed by the fourth week, this is probably the pickling effect of the alcohol combined with the decarb of the weed, which I think partly destroys the green effect of the buds. I found this an easy method to get on with, just a couple of squirts from the dropper bottle into your favourite style of coffee, and boom, your in. 😁 I still miss a joint or a pipe, but at least I'm back in the game after a couple of months with out a hit, two long months thumb twiddling. 😁 Its amazing how much time we devote to getting stoned, and the growing side of this lifestyle we have chosen, and watching other growers strut their stuff, nearly had to find a hobby, even my dog started to sigh. 🤣 Not many pics again this week, its not a thread that demands a lot of pics, four jam jars are just not that gripping. 🤣

First pic is straining the bud from the Green Dragon, I used natural coffee filters, the ones with out any bleaching, just didn't fancy the bleach in any form, more so if the use of the filters in going to be a long term thing. 😉

Jar 1 week 4.
20250109_142853.jpg

This is a nice little dodge to save time, I marked the jar with a bit of electrical tape to give me a point to evaporate the alcohol down to, this is the level for four dropper bottles worth of the Green Dragon, all you do then is syringe 10ml into each bottle. 👍
20250109_142805.jpg

The final loupe pic, you can see there are less trykes on week fours buds. (y)
20250110_104333.jpg

If you have a bit of spare weed, trim, sieve, then give this a go and see what you think, all you need is a jar, a good strength alcohol, and some weed. My weed of choice was some good bud called The Church, but I've some other weed that hermed, which I normally make hash from, I'm not a big fan of hermed buds, as they make me cough, but I'd have no hesitation in using it for Green Dragon, so give it a go and see what you think. (y) So what's next on the edible trail? I'm just in the process of ordering some stuff from the net, I'll let you know when it arrives, hopefully before next weeks post. 🙂 So until then people, just keep tokin. 👍

I've had horrible asthma my entire life and I got the same exact feeling when I first started vaping, and while it seems likes its the vapor that triggers it I believe its the hot air from the vaporizer. If you ever get a chance try vaping again, try using a small glass bong and a water pipe adapter, it cools off the vapor significantly and its the only way I can consume flower without coughing and having bronchial issues. I can't use the vape cartridges because they make me feel like my throat is closing up and my lungs get so bad I feel short of breath but vaping the herb that passes through the water has been the only way I can consume the past 3 years.

Your symptoms are not unlike mine. At first I thought about giving up cannabis altogether, I thought it was the end with out smoking pipes, as I don't smoke tobacco, but as things have progressed, I've noticed things like not smelling of smoke, or breathing it on the kids in my life. My partner doesn't smoke anything at all, so its good for her too. (y) Not being able to smoke has its up, and its downs, for me, but when it comes down to it I have a choice, make my lungs worse, or make what I have left last as long as I can, and find another avenue, its a new dawn. 🤘

Good morning tokers and growers, how are you all on this slightly misty morning, hope your all well. :) This week I've been looking at Canna Butter, ordered some stuff from the internet, some has arrived, some not, snow in parts around here, so I think its been tough for the delivery drivers. But what did come was some Lecithin, in cooking it seems that Lecithin helps the fat in the butter cling to the oils and fats in Cannabis, now there's a thing, think we need this. 😁 In all the recipes I've seen, a 5ml teaspoon full is good enough for a quarter of bush cannabis, and since I bought a pound of the stuff I don't expect to run out any time soon. 🤣 Thing is, if you buy a smaller amount it works out more expensive, but if you buy a trailer full it comes in cheaper. 🙂 So today I plan to make some canna butter, not a massive amount, just enough to test my chosen recipe, and test the end product. 🙂 This is how I'm going to make it. 👍

1 quarter of good bud.
250g of unsalted butter.
1x 5ml teaspoon Lecithin.

This is the type I bought, sunflower Lecithin. 👍
20250111_152111.jpg

The butter I'm using, bought from our local supermarket. 🙂
20250111_152223.jpg

The cannabis I'm using is the Church, left over from the Green Dragon trials, its already decarbed, and there was just over a quarter left, saves messing about with the oven. I decided after seeing the amount of trykes still left on the buds after making the green dragon, that this time I was going to mildly grind the buds, my thought being that the trykes would be hard to knock off of the bud into the butter, so for this reason I've ground the buds. 🙂

The ground buds.
20250111_153935.jpg

Next up, the jars. I've opted for three jars, two I'll use, which will have half the mixture in both, and the other third jar is just to fill in the extra space while cooking. 👍
20250111_152306.jpg

I started by splitting the Lecithin to to two half spoons of 2.5ml into the two jars, I used the smaller jars just because they fit in better in our 3.5ltr cooker. 👍
20250111_152556.jpg

Then in went the butter, half the block in each jar, the idea being that I can mix the butter and lecithin before I added the cannabis. So into the cooker it went while I sorted the cannabis. 👍
20250111_152922.jpg

First I scaled a quarter of cannabis, then the idea was to just split it in half, then I decided to weigh it out instead. 😁
20250111_154551.jpg

20250111_155912.jpg

The three jars were then placed into a slow cooker which is half filled with water, the space filler jar was filled with hot water, this is just to stop the jars with the butter in from floating around, or worse still falling over during the cooking stage. (y)

This is the butter melting before I added the cannabis, I made sure the Lecithin was well mixed into the butter. 👍
20250111_153518.jpg

This is the cannabis mixed into the butter, you can see the spare jar stopping the other two from floating about. 🙂
20250111_160402.jpg

I set the slow cooker on low so as not to destroy the THC any more than I have to, don't want that do we, no. 🙂
And that's as far as I've got, the jars are currently on a low setting in the slow cooker for four hours, every hour I'll give the jars a stir until they are done. I had planned to sort this early this morning and post the results, best laid plans as they say. 😁 So the end results will have to be posted at a later date. And that is all I have at the moment on the canna butter front. One thing I'll add is, if you look at the jars I used, they have the thicker screw top lids, I chose these because you can partly screw the lid on so you can pick them out to stir them, but because they're loosely tightened they wont build up any pressure and pop in the cooker, and render you butter useless, not what you want. (y) On that note, I out of here, chores to do. So until next time, just keep tokin folks. (y)

Good morning tokers and growers, how are you all on this sunny but frosty morning, hope your all well. :) Part two of my venture into canna butter, and it went like this. I left the ingredients in the slow cooker for four hours, this seemed to be enough by the look of it, all the butter and buds were well mixed together, I gave the mix a good stir every hour just to make sure. (y) I have to say that the jars were fecking hot, and using oven glove didn't save me, as the fingers dipped into the hot water the jars were sat in, being this hot is obviously a good thing from the cooking point, but not for scorched fingers. 😁 Next thing to do was strain the mixture into a clean jar, so what to use for a strainer? I decided to go old school and use muslin, this would save cleaning a sieve or other utensil as I could just bin it when I was finished, easy life. 😁 So out with the tongs, as the oven gloves were a little damp. 🤣 The mixture was then poured through the muslin, which I secured, old style again, with an elastic band, this would also be binned with the used muslin. 👍

Next up was to strain the mixture, I was thinking that the muslin would soak up the butter into the cloth as I'd used a fair sized piece, but it didn't. (y) Looked a bit like curry sat there in the muslin. 😁
20250111_201950.jpg

Ended up with nearly a full jar of canna butter in the end. (y) I'm thinking now, that I should have weighed the finished amount to see what the loss to the muslin and dry buds would have been, next time. :)

Once set it took on a nice clean colour, I thought it would be greener than it was. (y)
20250112_080835.jpg

I don't know if it was a mistake or not, but I'm treating it as one, and that was squeezing out the muslin into the jar. When I make this again, I think I'll skip the squeezing as I think it just forced the dust sized pieces of bud through the muslin into the jar. In the long run I don't think it does any damage to the end result, but it still wound up in the jar, which defeats the object of using a fine sieving method, I wanted a super clean product so when I cook with it, the food would have no specks of bud in it. (y)
20250112_080925.jpg

So how did the butter perform? I have to say, it did its job, two teaspoons gave me a nice relaxing hit. This gives me a base to work out how much butter to use in cooking. Taste wise it was ok, a fairly neutral taste, with a wax like texture, I thought it would be a bit more buttery. 😁

And there you go, another string to my stoners bow. 😁 All in all an easy product to produce, and hassle free as after the ingredients are mixed and put in the slow cooker, its just a matter of waiting four hours with the odd stir in between until its done. Serving suggestions, toast for a wake n bake, or slap some on your favourite crackers. 😁 Tried both of these with good effect, only thing I can say is, don't try this when you have the munchies. 🤣 So there you are, canna butter 101. (y) What next? Find out next time, until then, just keep tokin folks. (y)

Did you decarb the weed before makeing butter?

I made cannabutter about a year ago, it was really potent but I had trouble getting past the funky aroma and taste.
I couldn’t mix it with enough anything to cover the funk! Peanut butter was perhaps the best but it still was weird.

I found my canna butter was quite neutral in taste, main smell was butter, if you do another batch, try a flavouring of some sort. (y)

What type of flavorings?
When I make butter or honey it always comes out pretty dark, not at all like your creamy looking butter.

I don't know off hand what flavourings, some thing to look into maybe. I would think most food flavourings associated with fatty foods would probably work, if I get minute I'll put a couple of drops of Strawberry flavouring on a spoonful of butter, and see how it goes. The colour of my butter came out ok, would have liked it to have been buttery in colour, maybe the size of your sieve mesh, when I looked at our sieve that I would have used, the mesh seemed a little big for sieving out small particles, so I went for the muslin, but I'm really happy with how it turned out for a first attempt. :)

When I first tested the Green Dragon I just took an unmeasured mouthful of it to test it, I have to say, I was comfortable for about four hours. 😁
We started just doing an alchol extraction and then cooking off the alchol. Then just making the butter with the concentrate. Allot easier to get the doses exact milagrams you get a cleaner butter too. It was always Russian roulette trying to figure out how strong they were and if I got it to green the chlorophyll hurt my stomach..

Thanks for this. I’ve only done the canna honey, using our crockpot, but this seems to be only a little more involved.

I’ll see if the wife’s interested. She enjoyed the honey I made but I’m not big on butter and won’t touch margarine. If she’ll cook with it I’ll add it to the list to try this year. I have a few jars of Z-weed I can use.

Good morning tokers and growers, how are you all on this dull misty February morning, hope your all well. :) Nothing productive to show you this week, but I'm getting set up for a go at some Canna Coconut today, had to order some Beef Gelatine from the net due to our country shops not having any in stock, still cheaper and easier than driving to a bigger town just to buy some, I want this to make jelly babies at a later date, the price you pay for living on the outskirts of civilisation. :) Had a buddie pick me up some coconut oil on his way here, was expecting a kilo or some thing like that, but a 300ml jar will do just to experiment with, I only need 250ml, cheers bud. (y) He is staying the weekend with his wife and kids to help me with some building work I'm well behind with, that should get the mrs off my back, if we don't end up battered on the canna butter, or green dragon, he reckons that it can't be a strong a hit as a joint or a pipe, boy has he got a shock coming. 🤣 Due the success of the three jar in the slow cooker method with the canna butter, I going to repeat the same method with the canna coconut too. 👍 The recipe I'm going to use is the same as the canna butter, just a substitution of butter for coconut oil. So its back into the shed, as I'm banned from making a mess in the house kitchen (beer making, the hops stink). 😁

1 quarter of good bud, rough ground, not powdered. 🙂
250ml of coconut oil, the solid virgin stuff. 👍
1 x 5ml teaspoon of Lecithin.

I'm using the same sunflower lecithin from the canna butter. 👍
20250201_105155.jpg

The coconut oil, I gather this is a good brand. 😁

Can't show you the bud, as its in the oven decarbing as I write this. So later on I'll get the slow cooker fired up and get cooking, and we'll see what happens. 👍 Good news on my cuttings, I've chosen two strains, a Pineapple and a Do Si Do to get my cuttings from, so as soon as they're ready I'll let you know, with pics, can't wait, seems a life time since I dabbled with a grow.🙂 And there you are, another half update for you. 😁 I've got things to do, to keep the mrs off my back, I'll get the coconut experiment sorted later, and let you know how it goes. so until then, just keep tokin folks.
