A Turkey In The Hay 🦃

We called it skitching and sometimes if the driver was aware we would try with our skateboards for lack of snow~!
Don't really know how I survived my youth~!

So I think the fire will go out tomorrow and when I light it tomorrow night that'll be the fire that burns till spring View attachment 117810Can't be this one going now anyways cuz I don't have a picture of it being lit.

Every dawn this year I burn hot for at least an hour, and I'm throwing in the creosote powder twice a week as directed, trying to avoid that sticky gook that accumulates at the top cap, cuz I can't be going up on a snowy roof in February to scrape it anymore
Don’t blame ya. I get ice dams that can run up my west facing roof. PITA to deal with.

Although if I did slide off the roof I'd only fall about 5 ft into a soft mound of snow! When we were kids we used to jump off the porch roof into the piles of snow 🤣 sometimes we sink in so deep we'd be stuck ☃️
We did that too. Off a few different things actually.

Inner city kids like us used to 'ski' by holding on to the back of cars & trucks!🤦🏻 (don't laugh I know some of you did it too!) fun at the time, but we really shouldn't have done that
Yep, we called it shagging. It would grind down construction boots in a season. 🤣

A group of us grabbed the back of a VW bug, took the bumper off as he gunned it. 🤣

Another time it was a cop car. They took us for a great ride. Three on the back bumper and one each on each rear fender. 😝

Good times. 😂

Having been off cannabis boards for almost 4 years a lot has changed, a lot of impressive high-tech automated grows going on, so I figured I'd join the 21st century too!

Now I know the temperature & humidity in four different places! 🤣

The Grow Tent is 74°f with 42% humidity 👌🏻
My tent has 3 zones in each. I use that type of hygrometer as well. Need to get new batteries though.

Boards? we didn;t use boards just our feet but ya that's why we were in a park as well, We had about a 1 mile winding road into the park that never got plowed. I can see it like it was yesterday.

Ya, construction boots were the best. One guy used cowboy boots.

We had super shopping mall parking lots to play in. Later in life these same parking lots were where we practiced winter driving. Emergency stops, quick right/left turns, power slides. Cops would come half the time but again they would be cool. Show off a few things then tell us to get going.

Yes parking lots in the snow were fair game, no Police bothered us, its how we learned to drive in snow, through play. just covered concrete parking blocks that fked us up. More than 1 guy hit buried parking blocks and ruined their car....al in the name of fun..

So when I light my fire tonight it still won't be my permanent fire, cuz in one of the pictures I posted I noticed a cracked fire brick in the back so I've got a tube of high heat caulking coming Wednesday to make the repair, so will be going out again 🫤

Here's a classic fire from the past to warm up your Saturday night!IMG_20241221_005420.jpg

First snow tonight, they say it could even be an ice storm, charging everything up 🤦🏻 could be a couple inches snow in some areas

Feels like snow out even at 35°, only 37 for a high today

Edit: just got an updated weather report, no wonder it feels like snow it's supposed to start anytime now

Got 38 and rain here.
It could flip any moment.
Prepared or not here I am.
Been running the furnace since middle of October.

Holy cow! 😧 I had quite a few fires in October myself, more than usual

Conversely this month has been milder than usual so far

Snowing now at 35°, I hate snow before Thanksgiving, too early

I just can't wake up, I got to shoot down a double espresso to get going, I got to cook up some linguine I've got a delicious pesto from the garden for tonight, you want to talk about garlic, man it'll make your eyes water! Next time I make my pesto somebody has to stop me with the garlic, I tell you what!

Going to get my mail I walked right into mama and her two babies on the front lawn,20251110_150526.jpg Mama did not move until the babies were out of the way and safe. I went back in the house, I've got time, I let them work it out

Don't know whether it was three deer jumping out of the bush yesterday afternoon or when the birds attacked this morning

but I tweaked my back pretty good! 😫 fortunately I got a few days of wood up on the deck so it's rest and the heating pad for me for the rest of the day

Wild turkeys everywhere but this is as close as they got, then they walked into the woods. This must be part of the gang from about a half a mile up the road that runs in front of my car all the time 🙁 some tough old birds in that gang!20251111_150812.jpg

I don't know what happened to me yesterday but not only did I screw up on the dolomite but I accidentally ordered the pint of the GH micro when I thought it was a quart 😡 (didn't even know they made a pint) next time I'm just going to get the gallon for 28 bucks

Usually shipping is 5 days here so when I went to cancel the Limestone I was surprised that it was next day delivery, and so was the micro, figures 🫤20251113_122321.jpg

Next day delivery on the bird feeder too (left)

Squirrels got to the other one which I just finished rebuilding over the summer, it's quite old, about 3 decades and I will try to rebuild it next spring, it has sentimental value

Hopefully this new one will be more squirrel proof, there's no plastic on this one and the squirrels weight closes the feeding ports

If they figure this out I'm going to put a squirrel shield on the pole

If that doesn't work, well let's hope it works 🤞🏻

The other one's been empty a couple days so might take a while to bring the birds back

Edit: hard to see but there's a metal mesh over the plastic tube so they can't chew through the tube

First year I've had trouble with squirrels, coincidentally early spring this year a gray squirrel ran right under both tires a couple hundred yards up the hill. I'm not saying they're out to get revenge (but they're out to get revenge!) 😧 🐿

I’ve heard some say they still needed to add a bit to their Pro-Mix so you never know. Not a bad thing to have on hand. Just do an occasional ph check.

We have a pair of hawks we’ve seen often over the summer but not lately. They must be in another area as the tree rats are back. 🐿️

Haven’t seen an owl in decades.
I had some kind of a hawk yesterday (I'm not sure what it was) I was looking at the new feeder wondering where the birds were 🤔 and it flew over the roof, by the time I noticed and looked up it had already cleared the tree line and was flying over the southeast hayfield behind the tree line for a few minutes and then was gone. I couldn't tell if it was a hawk or an owl it went over so fast but it was a big son of a gun!

It's so hard to get pictures of hawks and Eagles because they come so fast and they're gone so quick

One time when three eagles were circling the field I ran as fast as I could to get my camera in the house, by the time I came back out they were all gone;

so now I do my best if I have a camera, if not then I just enjoy it, no more runningIMG_20231003_142514__01.jpg

You'll probably never see me quote the Mockingbird media again because I'm not a liar by nature, but I just happen to be watching the weather for the blizzard info tomorrow and they mention this, thought it might be of interest.

The contaminants that they mentioned are "beyond the acceptable level" which means there's a level of contaminants that is acceptable.

That's why a lot of us grow our own

Edit: some of you might remember my dispensary horror story from back in the Boston area I told on the farm, that's when I started growing, that was 10 years ago

Speaking of the weather, one to three inches of SNOW tonight (too soon) I think it's going to be three or more if it snows as long as they say it's going to

Then a warm week ahead and I'll be able to shut the stove down and repair that cracked fire brick

Been burning hot for an hour a day every day and twice a week throwing in that creosote powder. I'm about to throw it in right now, still don't know if it makes a difference 🤷🏻

Might go up on the roof and take a look but I've only been burning for a couple weeks probably just a waste of me going up there, but probably my last time to do that before the real winter sets in

Wood's going down fast this year 😟 I'm already working on that middle row because the row on the left that I started on I've reached the wood from 2023 and it's nasty, it was on the ground too long without skids, and although it's all been pressure washed, dried, split and checked; anything that wasn't 100% is sitting in a different pile in the woods (I'm going to burn that too) those rows are 18 or 20 ft. long and 5 ft. high so there's a bit to go still

I don't want to burn the 2023 wood until mid December, when the real weather is here and it's 0°f most days, then it will burn up like nothing. I'm also going to burn some of that half rotten wood I stacked out in the woods, cuz when it's a roaring fire you can burn anything! 🤪
