Did a tour on the GSXR around Lake Michigan once. I'll never try something like that again without cruise control. About 1/3 way around I wrapped a bunch of knotted clothesline around my throttle to make it stay in place. Not recommended but I was desperate.

06 streetglide here, first year for that model. Had a sporty before that that i put 50,000 on My street glide has 80,000 on it and still rides strong

Fk ya...nice ride....I road street bikes daily for 20 odd years, I was daily commuting 180 km and a car didn't see me and turned left, I went over the hood, broke tib/fib in the process....I was 43 my bike was totalled and that was it. All parts & tools sold........I sure do miss it and if I was single again it might end up being the way I ride into the sunset

man... these stories kill me. in my first couple years riding i took half a dozen riding courses to really up my level and it's a recurring theme. Statistics don't lie and the statistics around riding are probably the only ones I trust. Over age 40 riders are significantly (like 3x) more likely to be involved in an accident, whether single vehicle or otherwise. Those that survive either end up hanging up the saddle or keep going after recovery and eventually end up dead because of keepin on. Not a bad way to go imo, as long it's instant -- eg, dead before you know you're dead. still a shame to lose riders either way.

We lost a really close friend right before COVID because of this exact scenario. Given what the pickup looked like after Amish sent it into their right front quarter panel, Amish had to be moving well over the speed limit (basically took the front clip off the truck, his bike looked like a smashed up tin can). he was also on a hog, so 900lbs moving 80ish MPH hitting a 4k lb box moving 15ish MPH in the opposite direction is a hell of a lot of force. The impact took his boots off his feet and basically turned his skull into mush inside his helmet. His first born was still in the oven too. Was a devastating day.

I've barely ridden this season due to the move. Need to find a parking lot to go set up some cones in and at least try to get in some time. Too much shit to deal with at the house though so it might be best to just change the fluids, put some fuel stabilizer in, and put the bikes on stands for now. sure do miss the therapy though

I haven’t been riding since 2015. Just lost my love for it over night. Got pissed off when insurance wanted more for bike than car.

When I called to ask why I was told to many new drivers having accidents. I said that’s not my problem why raise my rates? He did they need to cover losses. I said but on my dime go fuck yourselves.

Canadian insurance is a scam. Mandatory policies without controls is just a money grab.

Owned Kawasaki Vulcan 750, Mean Streak 1500 and still own a 2005(?) BMW R1200GS.

Thinking of getting it back on the road off/on. We’ll see what next year brings.

There was a time for about 10 years that my goal was to put more miles on my bike than my car which was a trick in Michigan withers 3 months of warm weather. Now i barely get enough miles in to change the oil. Just getting old I guess.

I did that from 2000 to 2015. December, January, March. Don’t recall if I road in February. Basically if no salt or ice on the road I was out there.

Got hit with hail a few times. Legs got the worst. A few late April snow storms. Rainy seasons actually worse most times. But black ice can freak you out or fuck you up quick.

Used to ride dirtbikes as a kid, just got into street riding this year after buying a 1987 CBX250. I just fell in love with the look of it after seeing it on Facebook marketplace. It's a ton of fun for what it is, and I just ride for fun, not for commuting or anything. Try to get out a few times a week.
Plan to get something a little bigger next year, looking at the MT-07 and CB650, possibly a street triple if the funds allow.
