Do you do short soaks like the guy in the video on doing 3 minutes?
That seemed short to me but I guess the longer the soak the darker the oil.

Yeah the Source has been around since 2014 I think. Or at least the company has been around that long. There's an older version and now this newer model I guess has the better designed crucible and an adjustment to dial in altitude for the vacuum.
The reclaim will be very nice. I spent $60 on the gallon of ethanol and I'm gonna stretch it as far as I can!

I'm going with food and lab grade ethanol mostly for testing purposes.
Purpl Scientific has released the new app and extraction capsules for testing extracts but right now it only test ethanol based extracts.
I bought the ten pack and downloaded the new app but need some clarification from Purpl on a couple things like firmware and the subscription.

To test extracts I'll have to subscribe to an upgraded account that costs $20/month with a free 7 day trial. I'm hoping I can turn the sub on and off as needed but not sure I can.
Along with the ethanol extract test they'll soon have a portal opened for Euro style hash and other solvent extracts like co2.
Been waiting 4 years for this testing to be made public and now that it's here I'm all in on it.

It was almost $600 and I could live with that then my coupon finder kicked in and knocked it down $530. It was mine at that price point.
Looks like it makes everything ez especially with the app and it's size will help out when it comes to storing it. I'm running out of space for all my fancy grow toys

The rig I was building on Amazon was like the small rotary evaporator you have on the table.

You think the vacuum will help with that cure?
When I started in BHO without a vac that was basically what I did was keep it at 90 degrees and wait it out for all the butane to purge off it. Kinda whip it around from time to time over a few days.
I also like the idea of running the oil back thru the Source to clean it up even more.

Then run that result thru the source to remove the alcohol to the consistency you are looking for.

Oh this is some filthy kief and very corrupted with plant matter.
It's tumbler kief done in below zero temps with 200 micron stainless steel mesh. Does a great job but tumblers can be like taking a belt sander to buds to strip the trichs off.

It's ok to press with heat and smoke like old school hash. I've also pressed in my rosin press to squeeze oil out of it and that works but I'm thinking the ethanol extraction might get me the oil I'm looking for out of it.

I'm also thinking of using the ethanol distillate on rosin to dewax it and winterize it into shatter.
With the flower and ethanol I think the main goal there will be making vape carts.

Now that I'm gonna dip into ethanol extraction I finally have a use for my vintage dispo jar from back in the early days of legalization and DEA raiding California dispensaries.
I happen to have a jar from a raided and shuttered dispo I got on ebay about 15 years ago but I need to 3D print a lid for it. I'll use it for the ethanol wash

Love the extract craft.used to winterize a ton of oil in one of those things we ran a few of them all day for years.good quality tool.
If you Have to much oil in the ethanol it will burp sometimes and contaminate the clean reclaim ethanol. Never made ethanol extracts for it to run, just winterized rosin in it.pull it a little early so it still pours out finish on a hot plate.

we run our crawlers in the creeks and banks and it's kinda far from the house or garage and no real place to set anything up so putting a speaker on the rig itself made the most sense, and it sounds way better than coming out of a phone speaker. had to make sure it was waterproff too because submerge our trucks sometimes! you won't have that problem!!!!! haha

man that track looks insane... wonder if nascar even has enough horsepower to run something like that? i remember that when they built the F1 track in dubai, it had al kinds of crazy cool plans but by time it actually got built they scrapped more than half the cool features and ended up settling for something not as promised.

Yeah I think BASF makes that stuff and resells to other brands like most indoor garden supply products so it's all the same stuff just different prices and labels.

I won't be following that chili recipe to the letter but I do like the idea of smoking meat above the pot first so that's what I'll take from that one.
I think with the chocolate & cinnamon he's trying to capture a flavor of mole and get it into chili.
The thing about that is there's mole with chocolate and without and in this house we like it without. It's a little more gringo that way but the chocolate versions are more rustic and primitive tasting and not much zest to it.
He mentioned cloves too and that's a major icky no for me.
Weird he didn't add a bay leaf either but he's known for some oddball recipes like upside down brisket and "shotgun shells" which are fucking gross to me. Pasta and BBQ just don't mix and wrapping it with bacon doesn't fix it either.
Funny only his MIL puts beans in her chili. That tells you all you need to know about beans in chilis.
I still find it hard to believe I'm the only guy who adds marrow bones to the chili. Took that from making birria. Marrow bones are like a total game changer when it comes to slow cooker savory meals.

The Purpl concentrate testing has been a long time coming.
I don't like that the concentrate portal is a $20/month subscription after the free trial week. If I can easily turn it off and on that will be fine but I'm not a fan of locked in subscriptions for anything.
AOL got me in the early days of the internet with that shit with an autosub of $50/month for six years. And really I only use the device maybe 3-4x a year but will do about 30 tests each of those sessions.
I'm also hoping the vials can be reused because they're stupid expensive.
Gonna do some testing on flower this week at some point trying out the new app. Some haze and THCa flower from the dispo. I bought two eighths of that stuff last week to see what's up and how it tests. It smells great but is gawd awful tasting.

Been looking at that hydro dip more. I'm leaning on it for my Ford body. If I get a trippy Alice In Wonderland decal wrap for it that would look nuts over the hydrodip.
Gonna take the cars out this evening for some bye week work time racing! I'll try to get some video. Also need to open them up and make some steering adjustments because I don't think they tuned these cars at the factory. Tight in the front, loose in the rear, and won't track straight very well at all so out of the box they drive a little evil on those slicks!

Yeah I think BASF makes that stuff and resells to other brands like most indoor garden supply products so it's all the same stuff just different prices and labels.

Last I knew me and BASF were the same.
We don't make it, we make it better~!

So while this was cooking I spent yesterday evening castrating cannabis



Had some smoked and braised beef cheeks (barbacoa), Cajun leg quarters, venison sausage, turkey legs and hog wings.
I pulled the chicken and beef to make tacos.
Wednesday got some turkey leg and that helped with her disappointment about the hermie news

Indoors, I've lost 5 plants to males and 1 to hermie so the herd is quite thin.
I have two plants with severe over watering issues. I think I watered them twice and left two others dry. I've been working so much and been so tired I made a rookie mistake. It happens.
So far my faves are the Trop Cherry, Thai Fighter, and Sophia.

Changed up the lighting a bit with the reduced number of plants. Called up Spectramax to the show and benched a pair of SS550s.
Working on ways to get the Ion UV back in there
