I’m sure someone here has some experience in this area, I’m looking for a dry herb vape for my daughter for her birthday this year.

I’d like to get her something with good performance and easy to use (change temp settings etc.) And not a bear to clean.

I have a PAX2 which I really like, but it’s no longer made.

Ideas? Recommendations? Also, anything I should avoid?

Thank you!

So I've played and played with it and now I'm finding my groove.
I bought this vape to replace a pipe I'd use while on the go. I wanted a herb vape but also a water attachment so the Lobo and Gordito were exactly what I wanted.
Keeping the glass safe and stored well is pretty ez for my set up at work. I've only used the glass tube mouthpiece once and have used the gordito every session since.
I've also found more glass parts in China is you like some change there...I'll place on order here in the coming days.
Punch in Lobo in the search box and all the glass Lobo accessories will show.

With the pipe, I'd burn two bowls or about 1gram of flower once per day at work so I'm looking to do the same with the Lobo.
The offset there is three capsules replaces the two pipe bowls.

When I blaze flower, I like to burn it down fast and into white ash. About 3-6 hits off a packed bowl so I'm looking for the same in the capsules.
I don't like the slow burn of vapes so I want my vape to work almost like a flame put to flower in a bowl.
If the capsule was a pipe bowl, I'd clear it in two hits but at a lowish temp on the vape it's about 5-6 lightened up hits.

Then I remembered how I'd run my Silver Surfer desktop and did that. Nailed it and got exactly what I was looking for.

So here's what I'm doing...
I go very hot. 420-430 and keep cold water in the gordito to cool the vapor.
Once it's up to temp, let it sit for another minute or two. I don't start hitting it until there's less than two minutes on the countdown and even better the longer I wait.
As it cooks, all that vapor builds up in mass then when I sip it for a hit, BOOM! Huge milky white cloud. Another hit, same thing but reduced and by the third hit it's cashed out and cleared.
Of course this will drain the battery quick so I've gone from trying to trickle in hits at a low temp saving battery power that lasts almost a week to a rapid, battery zapping burn down. Capsules went from about 7 hits down to 2 and battery life went from 6-7 days down to 2-3.
I tested ours the other night again. 9 was as long as we got on the green 3000ma battery. But we share it between two or three each time. Might try your way when I’m alone working in the yard. 🤔

My PAX2 recently started Having charging issues so a 420 price cut for the POTV Lobo was just in the nick of time.

Today I mixed an herb cartridge with a layer of Green Crack then Blue Dream, then another layer of Green Crack.
I set the temperature to 404.

A few big rips and it feels like file not found!

Little bit thicker build up doing the hi heat and wait. A few times I've got it so I cant see the perk anymore.....

When it comes to the gordito I use the mouthpiece base as a holder while I clean or change out a capsule.
Only when I'm done do I remove it from the base part.
From there I hold it over a sink and blow into it to clear the water out. Wipe it down and put it back in the box with the foam protection.

I'm thinking about getting the other two colors of the gordito plus a sidecar from China for it because I don't like dry vaping so I'll always have a water piece ready even if I break one

We do the same for all the mouth pieces. It’s pretty stable.

I use too but just took it out and put it in the base station. The longer bubble straw is my usual. Easier to carry it around without water in it.

Ah, didn’t know you only used a bubbler. I already broke one bubble mouth piece cleaning it. Probably should have ordered two.

Here’s hoping we don’t break anymore.

I have a lookah ice cream dry herb vaporizer, and let me tell you, it's amazing. I havnt got that stoned in a long, long time. Not big clouds but flavorful vapor. And the end product is cooked all the way thru.

It's easy to use, and it makes you taste the bud alot better than combustion. I love it, and it's one of the best purchases I've had in a long time. Well worth the money.

Highly skeptical of the Lookah post. First post has an SEO keyword link. Lookah is super midsy. They're throwaway / headshop vapes

My experience with Lookah has been at best, unpleasant, and at worst, complete waste of money. This is regarding their wax and concentrate vapes, not dry herb.
They all can't be Puffco though and I'm not even sure Lookah can compete with Pulsar. Maybe on the level of Boundless or little lower.
Looks good on paper and priced very friendly but performance on the three I have are very D-. I have several Pulsar and those can be C to B+. Puffco, A-/A+.
POTV Lobo dry herb, A, with some nuance and learning curve. Out of the box though, B+.

i have a couple of lookah's seahorses.. they're okay for what they're made for. my gripe with them is not the performance itself, it's the software and small battery sizes. why any smoking device would have an auto off function is beyond me. every time i want to use it i gotta press the button five times.

the best thing about the seahorse is the rubber tube that came with it, i use it on my puffco so i can read and puff at the same time without putting my head down!!! hahaha hands free vapin!!!

That's a great way to put it.
Lookah is a brand that you buy when you're traveling and forget to bring your own vape so you hit a smoke shop and buy the cheapest thing there.

I gave my daughter the POTV Lobo when she came in for Thanksgiving. So, she's had a couple of weeks to play with it. She likes the flavor, but said it isn't get her high like combustion. Do you guys have any recommendations for what she could try to improve this? I've heard people in video reviews for some vaporizers talk about finding the right grind. Anything like that or should she not expect smoke-equivalent effects from vaping? FWIW, she had planned to start a tolerance break on Thanksgiving, lol.

I use the storz and bickel venty with a water pipe adapter and a bong, it’s the only way I can get a buzz from vaping I need high volumes of vapor. I’ll bet a couple bowls full connected to a bong would fry her ass I’m a super heavy user and 2 gets me good every time

The amount you put into the capsule and the temperature setting are the two main things IMO.

We use 410* and fill the capsule so it’s only a bit squishy. You need to make sure it’s not packed too tight or air won’t get through it.

Occasionally with different weed we have to use a bit less to get better smoke. I also keep my weed around 62%RH for the extra moisture but it’s not necessary, weed from 2023 still vapes fine. When done the used weed comes out like small mud bricks. IMG_8122.jpeg

Good weed is usually okay to use again, sometimes three times, before emptying the capsule.

I do think you will get the most out of weed by burning it but two or three adults share my vape at a time and it works for us. If it sucked I’d say so. I don’t believe in brand loyalty but rather function and results.

I also clean the screen after every use by holding the screen against a folded up paper towel after each session. It really soaks up the resin and leaves a goopy circle behind.

I too use the LOBO, I absolutely love it. Will never burn again.
I agree with much of what Zen said, although I like to use different temps at different times, especially for indica vs sativa.

Indica terps seem to be more consistent with higher combustion temps, sativas with lower.

Usually, when I want max terps, I’ll start at a low temp and with ever 1 or 2 puffs, up the temp by 20 degrees. It wsa definitely a learning curve.

Overfilling the little cartridges is still my biggest challenge.
Slow long draws work better than fast puffs for me.

I’m certainly happy with the LOBO.

Trying different things will help but mine was a ways from perfect out of the box.
My Lobo replaced a titanium pipe and I haven't picked up the pipe since.
I've come to settle on 430*. If you're coming off combustion, go as hot as you can is my advice there so it doesn't feel "weak". I wish it went up to 470-510TBH.

I load my capsule firm but not packed hard with an espresso like grind. Doesn't need to be that fine but as close to that as possible.
To get that grind I keep the weed frozen then crush it while cold. Espresso grind every time and it thaws in seconds

The first activation is really the warm up for me. Like preheating an oven to bake cookies and I get a few mild hits.
The second activation is where the party's at. Huge clouds and if I want it to knock me on my ass, pack a half dab of wax or hash in the middle of the capsule sandwiched by herb.
The third activation is to burn it all down and get every last bit of goodness from it before it tastes icky and smoldered.
Empty it and it should be as black as the Devil's heart. I trash it after that.
I do this every morning on my dog walks lasting about 40 minutes or so with the first 15-20 hitting my lobo. By the time I get home I'm absolutely plonkered

Thanks man. I just bought her the starter pack with the Lobo, so I'll need to get the adapter for her. I should have done that to begin with.

Just curious: Have you had a chance to try the Lobo see how it stacks up against the Venty? The Venty has adjustable air flow, right? For your purpose, I suspect that stays wide open??

Thanks Zen. I'm gonna share everybody's input with my daughter. All of this will give her plenty of things to try.

I'm a little surprised by the screen maintenance. I think I just envisioned the capsules negating the need for that much attention. Good to know.

You guys may be angels. Pretty special to find a group of people so willing to take time and offer advice to someone they don't know. The comment about highe heat coming off combustion really makes sense. And the tip for the freeze grind is pure gold. Big time thanks!

Wow! I asked and you guys really delivered. Interesting that you've fine tuned things and found different methods to enhance sativas and indices. I have her on the hunt for an indica she'd like me to grow. She hasn't settled on anything, but mentioned interest in what she's read/heard about Bubba Fett.

Thanks for the help. I'll pass this on and see where she ends up. I will not be providing the nitrous, however. There's limits to this dad's coolness 😂

No worries. And Tom’s right in that a slower longer draw is the way to go.

I’m sure it depends on the weed and how often and we’ll you clean but it will eventually happen.

This is the day after it was cleaned and used twice. With 2023weed. Glass piece still looks clean but is a bit sticky at the bottom. As soon as it’s off I do this and it saves me cleaning it daily. Once the glass starts to build up I either switch glass or run hot water through it. The oven I wipe out with a ISO wipe once a week or so as it seems to stay clean but does tarnish. IMG_8138.jpeg

I removed that screen with the idea that yes it's pretty much redundant if you're using capsules. It's there to prevent bits from going up into the mouthpiece if you're not using capsules.
Without that screen, your mouthpiece will get that resin on it instead of the screen.
Instruction say to not soak that silicone part in iso but I've found it can handle a short soak and good wipe down without any issues but I wouldn't let it soak for as long as something like glass or stainless steel.
Also, removing the O ring will get more airflow thru the hits so if there's too much resistance, taking that out will open it up a little for a better draw and bigger clouds.
