Once upon a time ... We did some crazy things to grow some buds. The craziest - my friend's mom had a large space in a shared warehouse. It was set up for offices and showrooms. We suspended sheets of plywood on cables above the false ceiling in the office and grew plants. My friend tried to dig a room under the deck around his mom's pool but his stepdad's roses started sliding under the deck due to the subsidence from heavy rains. He gave that up and used a friend's attic, which was a terrible idea in Florida. It got hot. He was an electrician so he ran a subpanel and hooked it all up safely, but when the meter reader came he said he saw a spark from the main panel which made him flinch or fall or something unwanted and we had to do an emergency relocation which put us above the ceiling in his mom's office.

I had many friends who wanted to grow but none of them knew how to grow anything. Two of them made rooms under the stairs of the apartment houses they lived in. One was in a closet but the upstairs tenant was a police woman. Luckily, no one who wasn't a grower knew what that smell was back then.
The second built a room under the basement stairs, of an unlocked, multi-unit building. It was so airtight the walls were covered in drops and the plants stretched inches per day due to extreme humidity. I can't remember what became of it but he did get kicked out before harvest.
Several years later he talked me into helping him again after he bought a house. I helped him build a mother room and a budding room, brought in lights and strains, but he couldn't be relied on to water properly, and he had dogs so we had unbelievable spider mite attacks which devastated the crop. One day he went out of town and asked me to feed his dog. I went quite late that night and found all the tops ripped off the plants. Then I found an asshole friend of my friend who was hiding in the mother room. It was at that moment I realized this guy had a nose problem and my friend was a coke addict so I bagged up all the web covered, soapy weed and gave it to him and told him to fuck-off. Then I told my friend's wife that she had a problem and the harvest wasn't going to pay the mortgage. Apparently, she knew he was an addict but thought he had quit after he lost his job and she threatened to leave. Needless to say, I stopped all contact with him.
I have another coke head grow story fiasco which came prior to that so I was aware of the signs. Maybe I'll tell that one next.

Up until around 2010-2013 most grows I had been associated with or partnered into were closet grows, outdoor shed grows, and outdoor guerilla grows.

Closet grows were wild and very popular. Entire books written and dedicated to the idea and it was the precursor to tents. Closet grows were happening everywhere especially in spaces like college dorms. For a while it seemed every dude I knew also had a closet grow.
Back in the day people were cutting holes in closets similar to how holes are cut into tents today.
Pretty much everything done in tents today was started in closets then it became "cabs" or cabinets that were tents made of plywood then finally grow tents came along.

I could never be in a growing partnership again. Learned the lesson a very long time ago and yeah if a partner is an addict of another drug is a huge problem. My issue on that was with a crack head living off a trust fund. All the money in the world to invest in a grow but so stupid and reckless it's impossible to work with him. Others have been thieves, liars, or just straight up terrible at growing and cant read instructions so they do things that kill plants.
I'll have friends and associates who grow their own but will never partner with any of them. We all have those scars so it's like this forum where we will talk shop but not run partner grows
