Zen’s Spring 2026 Grow

20260327: GG#4 JW & SB#22

Plants are looking much better. Yesterday I dropped the Sensi Cal Mag Extra 4:0:0 and fed FFGB 6:4:4 and 1 TSP epsom per gallon instead. Some leaves have darker stripes or areas.IMG_9400.jpeg

Talking with Pipecarver about these early yellowing or lime issues. He thinks about 15 minutes of far red LEDs 5 minutes before lights out will help with that.

The Photontek SQ300W has 730nm far reds but it’s always on, no separate controls for them. He thinks that might be overkill but doesn’t know for sure. It does explain why I get a lot of stretching.

So Mr Carver was nice enough to send me one of his far red LED puck lights. 😳😊

I’m going to see if I can hook it up in the middle of the quantum boards in the second tent that has no far reds. It’s just two 220w panels joined in the middle so I should be able to put the light under the seam this weekend. IMG_9401.jpeg

No one around here has wide shorter 3 gallon soft pots so I started cleaning the green ones from the last grow. They aren’t as wide as I want but these plants have been in small containers much longer than I wanted. I should have been able to flip by April 1st. Now it’ll be mid April after they have time to root in the new pot.

Very tired. Gas company finally fixed things and this weeks bill shows it’s fixed and over with. But the City Water and Property Tax bullshit is still going on. They can’t be this stupid or incompetent. He’s a director for f**k sakes. So it has to be intentional trying to get us to walk away. I’ve clawed back about $6750 of the stolen $8500 but they keep making excuses and sending the wrong paperwork. Even the director hasn’t been able to tell me where $865 he admits he owes us has gone? WTF? So I feel like I’m banging my head against a wall for the last however many years and it’s just draining and frustrating. But I’m not giving up, I can’t after all this BS.

I plan to get most if not all the plants transplanted this weekend in a new soil mix. Now that things are better I’ll stop the liquid nutes and let the dry nutes in the soil mix take over again. Still don’t know what went wrong this time.

Have a good weekend people. 👊

In terms of your stretching -- what's your temp differential between lights on and lights off? Keeping those temps within a couple of degrees during veg, and actually inverting them during the first three weeks of flower (eg, 80F lights on, 83F light off) can help significantly reduce stretch.

Hey, the far red puck will help with the color and plant health but if there is an inherent problem IE: nute deficiency it won't do much to help. I wouldn't use 1st 3 weeks of flower unless you want more stretch. After using my blue lights for a bit too long I needed to stretch mine out a bit so just 4 days of the reds at lights out did what I wanted to them. I'll use again after 4 weeks in flower and stretching is over. I like playing with my colored lights......Did I mention my green light, I run it with the rest of the day lights on, not sure what it does, its supposed to enhance the other spectrum's ......what ever the fk that's supposed to mean...lol....its pretty so there's that....lol

I have some UV and IR lights that I will be putting in the tent after this grow. Really interested in what UV does for the plant

It’s all learning!

UV light scares me a bit. I know I'll look at the lights and fry my eye's eventually if I buy them. Its the only reason I haven't bought any already. I screw up far too many times to trust myself with dangerous lighting.

I’ll be cleaning up the leaves and branches this week. I topped any of the longer branches to keep them even. Still no luck finding wider soft pots. I’ll use the green ones again if it comes down to it.

Still winter one day and spring the next. Need to start planning the vegetable garden out.

Have you tried upping your nitrogen, a few leaves look like they have been robbed of it, the yellow ones, plants do this to feed the new growth to keep it going. Bottom left plant looks better than the others, don't know why if they are on the same nuits.

I’ve been keeping an eye on it but there’s only so much I can do with the way the room is.

Lowest temp is probably 16*c and highest would be 29*c with typical being 18*-27* and often 20*-24*. It changes with the outside environment. I close the doors and use the dehumidifier to bump the temp if needed. Humidity has been holding between 50-60% almost steadily.

The Photontek has far reds on all the time which could be part of the stretch issue. I’ve been moving the light and going by PAR to help keep them down.

That makes sense as it’s not adding anything but light.

I’ve only just set things up last night. First test of the far red light is a success. Came on 5 minutes before lights out and 9 minutes after it shut off.

I’ll turn it off after flip a few weeks or if I get too much stretch.

Then back on midway through flower.

Sounds good. So blues keep them bush and short. That might be worth my looking into later.

Green seems to be the safest to use around plants especially in flower. Still need to keep the brightness down and limit duration but I’ve used them for years in the grow room. Only other lights are in the tent.

I open the tent doors a lot to help maintain the proper environment. As much or as little as needed. Only lights out usually stays zipped up tight.

I’ll watch what happens… I’m not ready for that yet. Lol

Put up one of those old black light posters. 🤘

Yep. I posted that above. Boils down to I switched to FFGB 6:4:4 and Sensi Cal Mag Extra 4:0:0 with a couple epsom foliar sprays and now after a week or so they are much better with only two still looking off but with nicer new growth.

Prior I tried a suggested 0:50:30 but could see it getting worse after two days so used my original idea.

Was finally able to up pot all the plants, set up the three sections, and move two into each section.

Tested the lights and timers and all seems good so far.

I split two of the plants into 7 gallon pots with about 23 litres of soil and the rest are in 3 gallon with 13 litres of soil.

Mixed into each soft pot 3g / 7g:

ProMix HP - 13L / 23L
(Including original 1g pot root ball with soil.)
Worm castings - 2cups / 3.5cups
Gaia Green 4:4:4 - 1.5tsp / 3tsp
Azomite - 2tbsp / 4tbsp
Gypsum - 2tbsp / 4tbsp
Dolomite - 1/2tsp / 1tsp
Epsom- 1.5tsp / 2.5tsp
Azos - 1tsp / 1tsp
Mykos - 1tsp / 1.5tsp

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We’ve been doing yard work along with normal chores. 8* and mostly sunny today so far. Lots of rain coming next week though. L8r 👊

Edit: Added epsom to the list.

The transplants seem to have been successful. They all have better looking growth but the two Sherbangers still need some time.

Last night was the first watering for the 3 gallon pots. 7 gallon will be later this week. I trimmed all the plants a bit and removed lowers and larf.

Other than watering I’ve moved the lights a bit. LST and/or topping is still required. I’m hoping the new soil mix is spot on and they continue to improve.

The middle pictures has the far red light coming on 5 minutes before lights out and shuts off 10 after lights out. I’ll turn it off before flip.

Temperatures still stay between 16*-26* and RH is 45-60%.IMG_9471.jpeg

Rained most of yesterday and will most of the week, today being the only break. At least it looks nicer now that we cleaned it up.IMG_9458.jpeg

Now we have to get ready to host Easter long weekend.

Take it easy guys. 👊

We're a long ways from Spring here. Snow just melted after a few warm rainy days but its now 3C and a grey drizzle that will last until June ish with a few nice days mixed in, then the Black flies make it fun to enjoy the warmer weather.

Moms south east of Orillia and they still have most of their snow. Rain just knocked it down a lot. She’s worried that the rivers too low again. Last time they did that it overflowed in May and everyone got flooded.

I’m sure it’s still going to be winter until May 1st. Last year we needed the furnace on until May. We are switching on/off this week depending on the temperatures. 🤣

At least you’re living the dream and got away from all the asshats long ago. We almost made it. Deal fell through and now prices up north are almost as stupid as the city.

Basement was 14* this morning. A damp chill from all the melting.

Outside was around 0* iirc, it’s 5* outside now and will be staying single digits for the rest of the week along with rain.

I have to keep the temps up to 69f at night, Qnight & Dusky can't handle the cold, Coal is thicker and it never seemed to bother him, I used to drop temps to 63f at night, we were warm underneath covers and Coal was fine but these other 2 have less fur and get cold. We'll get another monster bill before its all over, at least I hope its only 1 more. Gas went up again here last night, not sure about heating oil. We may have to look into wood again.

We used to be able to turn off the furnace mid March but not for a few years now. April is the new normal but when is still up in the air. So it’s off for a few days then off again if my wife’s cold. She’s up at 3-4 am at the latest.

-3c this am, we'll be using heat for another 2 months. It ain't cheap being broke in Nova Scotia. Some folks around the world could live like kings for what it takes us to be poor.

Wife’s pretty much had the furnace on since I turned it off. I’ll try again after the long weekend. She’s off until Wednesday.

Furnace was on until May last year. That’s when the gas company started getting silly with their bills. At least that’s resolved.

I raised the lights, watered the 3G pots, did some LST, and should be able to water the 7g pots for the first time tomorrow.

Colour for GM & GGB#4 looks good. Only real issue is space. Need to keep an eye on the humidity in this section.IMG_9503.jpegIMG_9502.jpeg

The two tents with GG#4 & SB#22 are doing okay. One’s fine, two are getting there and one needs time still. It’s the GG#4 in both tents that’s not happy. Hoping the roots will find everything they need next watering.IMG_9509.jpegIMG_9510.jpeg

Still trying for a mid April flip. 🤞

Happy Easter people. 🐣🐇

Are all yall still living in winter?
Here on the left coast, we’re in sprummer, it may have been wummer before March 21!

Weird thing is, there is a strong prediction for a return to cool wet weather for us here in the next few days.
We’ll see if that happens, but it’s been a weird year already.

Its still winter for us here up in the North East, snowed a bit yesterday, none stayed on the ground but at 1C and cloudy we could get some today as well. We get leaves on trees in late May early June our population here has stayed close to the same level for the 30 years we've lived here...funny that...eh?

Sort of a slow climb to spring. For every double digit day we get a few low single digit days, usually with rain or flurries. It’s been happening the last few years. Like winters pushed an extra month forward.

We’ve had three nice days since March. Last frost is usually May 24th.

That’s what we keep getting. I’ve had to use the dehumidifier all winter and most of March.

We’ll see if that happens, but it’s been a weird year already.
Agreed. My grass has been half green all winter, and mostly green now. But trees are just thinking about getting buds ATM.

The last pic shows that tent isn’t quite back to normal leaf colouration yet. It has a week to fall in line.

Temps we have been able to keep in check and humidity has been between 45% and 65%. The outside weather keeps fighting us however. I went to bed with a green lawn and a few rain drops. Woke up to this.IMG_9546.jpeg

But compared to Quebec we got off lucky.

Here’s hoping everyone had a good long weekend. 👊

The worm bin survived the winter in the basement bathroom. I noticed that the worm tea had collected a few days ago so I filtered it and put it in a 300ml spray bottle to do a foliar spray before lights out today.79684836908__B1CFBF0B-5ACE-4622-AD2B-B4147ABC3200.jpeg

In the past I’ve made teas using worm castings but this is the first I’ve used the runoff from the bins directly. Should be good.

The last few weeks I’ve been feeding them strawberries. Kind of half hoping I find sprouts growing so I can transplant. Our strawberry plant didn’t make it a few years ago. It survived the winter but spring frost zapped it later when I put it out on the stoop.

I think the plants are doing much better. Still stripes or spots here/there but almost all new top growth is green. Only using water up to this point. A bit of cal mag will be added next watering and probably bloom nutes in preparation of flip.

I noticed a while back that it was the GG#4 that showed the most issues. Different pot sizes, different lights, different tents, but same feedings.

Not sure if the red light is helping. I know it’s not hurting so far. I’ll shut it off at flip.

Now that I have two per tent I’ve used HST/LST to fill out the space before flip. Might need to use a few spacers to open up the low middle of some plants.

I trimmed a bunch of sucker branches that will never catch up. Also removed a bunch of weak side or middle branches. I left some lower leaves for food but removed any new lower growth. Just need to do a big defoliation especially on the small section.

IMG_9589.jpeg

20260413: GG#4 JW & SB#22

Flip to 12/12 last night. Took off a few sucker branches that didn’t make it to the bar. Mixed in a 50/50 top dressing. Only watered in the 3 gallon pots as the 7 gallon weren’t ready yet.

Top Dress: 3Gal / 7Gal

Worm castings - 1/2 cup / 1 cup
Gaia 4:4:4 - 1.5 tbsp / 3 tbsp
Gaia 2:8:4 - 1.5 tbsp / 3 tbsp
Azomite - 1 tbsp / 2 tbsp
Gypsum - 1 tbsp / 2 tbsp
Epsom - 1/2 tsp / 1 tsp

I only watered in with 2 litres so as not to flush anything out. Next watering will be 2.5-3 litres. We still have some patches of discolouration but they look much better and filled out well. If it continues Sensi Cal Mag Extra will be added.

I noticed burn marks might be coming a few days ago. I raised the lights but not too high as stretch is coming. I’ll need to keep an eye on that and try to adjust accordingly.

The last week HST was applied heavily across all canopies.

I’ve disconnected the red led while we go through stretch.

I didn’t make it to the end of the week before I had to raise the lights. I was hoping I could slow the stretch by keeping them low longer but I saw burning already. Zen 2 tent is already as high as it can go and will need to be clipped to the top bar again for a few more inches.

This has me worried about week two and maybe three of stretching. I’ll use HST if I have too but try not too during flower.

I’ll have to do some trimming of large fan leaves on the weekend. Whatever went wrong with the previous up potting wasn’t an issue this time. They found the top dressing and seem happy so far other than light burn.

A couple of the worst burns.IMG_9680.jpeg

Humidity is still a on going battle. It’s been set to 45% for a week and I don’t think it’s hit that once. 47% is the lowest I’ve seen. Lights out is the hardest. It drove the temperature up to 24* to keep the humidity at 48-50%.

20 minutes before lights on.
IMG_9663.jpeg

70 minutes before lights out.
IMG_9676.jpeg

So I once again have plants that are too tall. Disappointing. One deficiency or issue and I’m screwed. Back to cutting off branches or bending them over with HST. 🤷‍♂️

I hope everyone’s doing okay and this crazy weather isn’t causing any problems. Today has snow in the west, rain from the middle to the east with heavy fog here as well. Flooding has already started an hour or two north of us.

It’s 4/20 so it’s like an obligation to post something cannabis related.

Starting week two of stretch. I’ve only bumped the lights up a bit but dimmed them once as well. A few burns here/there but not as bad as I feared. If I can keep them low until stretch is over I can raise the lights the last few inches and turn them up again…

Added a bit of Sensi Cal Mag Extra 2ml per litre of water the last watering. Trying to prevent that week 5+ early fading.

As soon as stretch is over I have some trimming to do. More branches that won’t make it. Still for the space I think I’ve filled it out pretty well without a net.

A little 420 treat…

Weather has continued to be up/down with temperatures, rain and humidity.

I’ve been trying to leave the plants alone during stretch. The two 3x3 sections are doing okay but the 1x3 is just getting too tall too fast. Every time I see burning start I pull the light up a couple of clicks. I really hope the stretching ends by Sunday so I can raise the lights to the ceiling and not have to worry about it anymore.

These two are like my Z-Weed strain. They keep going for the light and need attention every other day due to the tight space. Trimming started after week one of flip. Just a little every few days.

Lights have been at 13/11 the last week or so and I may bump to 14/10 in another week once stretching is finished. We’ll see how it goes before I commit.

After lights out this morning. The dehumidifier keeps the temperature up but it’s better than higher humidity.IMG_9781.jpeg

Needed risers/elevators for the 1x3 that works on round or square trays. This seems good and printed in 1.5hrs. It’s about 10” which is good for the 3 gallon pots.IMG_9771.jpegIMG_9772.jpeg

We’re still playing pool about once a week. Sons starting to apply things and use spin. I get in the groove for a while and clear table only to get hooked behind his balls. For the most part we’re just playing angles and control. Spin and cue ball placement will come after. It’s actually been good stretching for my back and legs.IMG_9711.jpeg

That’s about it until Sunday. Here’s hoping the double digit temperatures stick around and the humidity drops. 🤞
