Hey, What soil are you in?

Older version of Sunshine Mix #4. It’s just peat, perlite and Dolomite lime iirc.

In Promix/peat based mixes I don't feed for almost 1 month. I transplant after 10 days -2 weeks into 1 gal pots they get a fresh wash of a starter charge in the soil when I saturate during transplant. The day of this pic was my first feed at 28 days old with the fkin

I wait until I get a second set of true leaves then start watching for any yellow or deficiencies. I used to use water bottles and then red cups with clear inside to germinate but these new containers are much smaller so I’m learning again.

I can’t see the roots this way and it’s really made it hard to know when to feed. But I should be able to read the plants by now, you’d think.

I’m still using the chart for the KIND Trio nutrients. I just cut them back when I can. They were discontinued here so I’ll have to change once I run out. I bought enough on sale to get threw at least this year.

You use GH don’t you? I almost went with them until I saw mine on sale for $25 for three one litre bottles, regular was $75+.

It sounds like you think we should wait a bit longer before feeding the bigger plant. It’s about two weeks old. It’s a little fugly but no yellow yet so we’ll go water again and save the feeding for later.

I’ll talk it over with my son tonight and see how he wants to proceed. I want him thinking about things and making the choices, not just following orders/directions.

Just an update on the Lobo vape that replaced our Utillian.

It’s been over a year, more like 18 months, and we still like it. It’s draw with the included glass is okay but with the longer straw or the bubbler it’s much nicer.

It’s used daily at 390* for 4 minutes including 30 second warmups. It’s our go to device as we don’t smoke flower in the house.

We get at least 5 sessions out of each usb-c charge. But I have other 18650 batteries I can swap in. I use the capsules so clean up is easy. ISO wipe for the oven, some times for real sticky capsules, then a cloth which cleans the rest. Capsules I usually do with a pick over a container to dump later. In true slacker form I usually clean them in a group and just keep changing them out. We have 13. lol

I’ve read about and experienced a charging issue. In my experience when the device is colder than 19* it fails to switch over to charge mode unless you push it in and pull it out a few times. If warm it’s never a issue. I don’t recall when this started.

Cleaning the glass, screen and bubbler is all done in a Mason jar of ISO over night. A cheat I do for cleaning the screen each session is to push a paper towel against it which absorbs most of the resin while things are still hot and runny. A lot collects at the bottom of the straw over time as well. Just pull it out and wipe it off. Running it under hot water will extend its use as well. Obviously how often it needs to be deep cleaned will depend on use.

For the money we all agree it’s been a good purchase and still performs well, has good taste, is easy to clean and has been reliable up to this point.

20250115: Seedling Day 13 & 7

Shot glasses all had swollen seeds. Two had cracked with one having a hair coming out. Two sunk but came back up later. So we transplanted.

So just the germination tray with two plants and three seeds. Hoping we get two more seedlings by next week.

Watered the tray today after leaving it dry a few days.

Water bowl is changed daily and damp rag resoaked two to three times daily. So far this has kept things between 50-70RH depending on outside environment.

Son and I used our pipes today. He uses his often but I’m vaping inside most days until April.

I was about to clean them when I thought this filter idea might be useful to someone else.

I didn’t have a screen handy after losing my last one outside so I tried something else. I used a Raw thin filter. Really doesn’t filter so much as stop bits from going into your mouth with a joint so I figured why not try it. Funny, fits perfectly. Works so well son uses one too now. Not sure if he’s still got the screen in as well. I just leave the end out slightly to make it easier to remove later.



Only tried it a few times this winter but no issues so far. I’ll change the filter if I ever pass it around, this is my pipe, but I expect it will get off tasting after a few uses and need to be changed anyway.

Reminds me of an old in-line filter used for some tobacco pipes. Man they would get gross.

Not sure why, we see a specialist next week and she's on steroids now to see if they can clear what may be a blockage behind her canals. Plus she has a cough at night & today but they don't want to relate the ear problem to the cough.

Humidifiers are inexpensive, I bought 3 of these at $49 -2 for my grow and 1 for upstairs. I've had a bunch of shitty ones and these are the only ones I can easily clean with a large opening through the lid. With it on full I can get 1 day out of it before I need to refill in the am

The fan I need on anyway. When a bowl of water isn’t enough in front of the fan I’ll put a cloth in it. The cloth wicks the water and the fan circulates it. It really works and keeps things in the 60-70 zone. Just need to add water twice a day.

I just find this easier and quick to setup or remove. Fan stays while the bowl and cloth get put away.

I need it through veg in the winter. I like them @ 65%, warm and humid specially on seedlings and the young. I don't need to worry about them in the Autopots when I put them into flower, I get ample humidity with them. More of an issue getting my RH down with the doors closed up on my tents. I have to open the doors through the day to get the RH down, it was at 59% this am 40% with doors open 35% at my desk.

I made the mistake of showing my son a cool pipe G$ had told me about. It was based on a conversation we had over dropping glass accessories or paraphernalia.

Well he ordered me one for Christmas. He knows I like pipes and I don’t share my wooden ones. I just use a metal spoon style for hash and my wooden one for weed or weed and hash mix. I have a 9” bong I don’t like the taste of either. So this was his answer. Pyptek Bubbler.







It’s a great smoke with nice hits. But not the fastest or easiest to clean. Not a fan of all the ash and solid matter that gets stuck in the top neck of the bowl.

So, not to be outdone he had to go out and buy himself a new glass bong today.



This was my wife’s favourite I brought back from Amsterdam 17 years ago. I dropped the martini glass bowl a few years ago but can’t find a replacement yet. Still hopeful though.



It’s so small the glass straw from the vape is almost a perfect fit.

20250120: Seedling Day 18 & 12

Little taller. New leaves are looking good. Seeds still aren’t up on day 6.
RH stays at 58-62% and Temp 80f. Just having the door open a bit for a short time drops it quick.



When my son said he thought he might see WPM a week or so back I sprayed them both with peroxide. Soil and all. Other than the fugly leaves they seem okay. Seeds were not in soil yet.

IDK. I expected one seed up by now. I know I saw one open because my son mentioned it independently.

When is a seed considered a plant? When it has a root, cotyledon show, first true leaves? Is it the same for a legal definition?

Now it’s thawing out in the soft pot. I’ll move it to a warm location and we’ll get back to it tomorrow. Going to be a 5L pot this time.

In the mean time I used the keif in my catcher to make a bit more hash.

This was from Twin1 and probably Purple Diesel. Smells like furnace oil. Hits nice.

I’ve heard people vape it but it seems wasteful to me. I don’t see how it’s getting all the goodness out. Even a chunk in the pipe takes a while to get through the middle.

I’ve been tempted to try now that we use capsules. Less chance of messing up the oven.

Have you tried it? Are you mixing it with flower or just a chunk on its own?

I need to get a glass tip. We use the original glass short straw that came with the vape but it’s a bit to big. Works, but needs to be bigger than necessary.

I haven’t smoked a joiner since the weather went into negative double digits. The pipe or bong I can stick my head out the door while the smokers stand outside. But that’s not often. Sons out daily

20250125: Seedling Day 23 & 17

We decided to transplant the largest one into a 1 gallon pot. Then bump it up to the 3 or bigger later. Let’s us keep it in the smaller section under the germination section. So less power will be needed to maintain temperatures and humidity. Lighting should be less too.

This will be its final home in a few weeks.


This is the 1 gallon with Dynomyco mycorrhizae and a bit of Stim-Root powder added.





Still don’t know the sex but remaining hopeful.

My son will be doing the next transplant on his own. I had him get everything ready, explained what we were doing and why. Unfortunately he’s on a ever changing shift so got called in when we had planned to transplant.

The second seedling is/was either having wind or maybe CO2 issues. We kept the warmth and humidity trapped in this section by closing the vents.

Not sure why it went like that, we’ll see if moving the fan and the plant helps. I opened the side vent a little as well.

Still nothing from the other seeds so time to move on. I hate this time of year. We’ll give the VG another shot I think.
