Greetings Bud Builders!

It's been a while since I've been able to be active on my threads as I have had to take a break from my grows while I deal with some hardcore illness. I've kept this mostly to myself but wanted to go ahead and let all my friends here know what has been happening.

Briefly, I have a diagnosis of base of tongue cancer and have been fighting this disease holistically for the past 2 years but recently things got way worse and I ended up getting 33 rounds of radiation and 6 rounds of chemotherapy and have been home recovering since. It's been tough but I am starting to feel a bit better and so I am happy to report that. I had shut down my grow room during all this but am happy to say I've got a good start on my new grow.

I'm only going to run 2 tents instead of 3 but I need to lighten the load so decded just two plants. I also converted my 4 site system to a single site for this grow, fairly easy modification and gonna veg this one out till I have a monster in this tent. I had some seeds of some Afghan that I was going to try but they were duds so wen to plan B. In the 5x5 going to run a cross my friend impulsive Grower (from the other site) made called Black Cherry Bliss and a cross between a Grape Gas Daddy with a Tropicana Cherry Mom.

In the 3x3 gonna keep the status quo on this one, just going to do whatever I can to make these grows as easy as possible. The strain this go gonna be a Brother Mendel strain called AF Coup. I'm excited to grow more from Brother Mendel.

Excellent. Missed your posts. Glad you’re feeling better. One monster per tent has worked well for me in the past. Would it be worth your while to try a SCROG or is that too much trouble?

So I found the Black Cherry Bliss seeds @ Elite Cut Genetics and ordered a pack~!
I also ordered Purple Cherry Punch which is Tropicanna Punch X Trop Cherry~!
Can't wait for next grow~!

Welcome back my friend. I for sure have been missing you even if we did talk on the phone! I’ve missed you here! Glad to see you posting and poking seeds! 🥰

Thank you! Not sure if I scrog or not, just playing it by ear with the least amount of work on my part.

Making steady progress, roots have touched down in the water and finally time to start putting on some bulk up top. First up is the Black Cherry Bliss in the 5x5, and then is the LA Coup by Brother Mendel in the 3x3. Gonna veg that Black Cherry Bliss extra long to get er to fill as much of the space as possible, then flip to flower.

These seedlings were planted directly into the rapid rooter and I think it was around 3 days and the first on popped the surface and the other one the next day. That Black Cherry Bliss was odd at first and it's the first time I've seen a seed pop and one of the cotyledons were dead right from the start. The other one was pretty healthy and it doesn't seem to have slowed her down.

Still running very light on the nutrients with ppms around 320. 100 ppm of that is in the water when I start. For some reason. my water barrel is still getting contaminated, not much, just enough to piss me off.

Plan on changing out the res soon and up the nutrients to around 400 counting the starting water + nutrients, see how she likes that and adjust accordingly.IMG_5208.jpegIMG_5209.jpegIMG_5210.jpegIMG_5211.jpeg

very cool to see!!!!!!

.

so i gotta ask man, a while back Smoke shared a post with us about you taking controls of an airplane!!! what was that like? as cool as dreams or what?

Hell yea, it was pretty cool for sure!

So the story behind that is we were taking an Angel Flight to Salt Lake City for me to start my radiation treatments. I was sitting in the co-pilot seat and my wife was in the back seat, the pilot looks at me and says, "Ya wanna take the controls?". Didn't have to ask me twice and we had fun with him putting in a heading and then me matching it with the actual aircraft. Was an awesome experience and some really cool people helping others.

Is the ppm low right out of the RO filter?

Something must be leeching. You are way past any construction dust from the remodel. Not sure what tho.

thats sounds so freakin awesome man!!! i've never even been on plane small enough to sit in the front seat!!! maybe a 12 passenger was the smallest.

you gotta be like did he really just ask me that?!?! hell yeah, lets do a barrel roll!!!! hahaha

.

i'm a beginner and curious, what brand nutrients do you use?

Any metal pipes or fittings?
Any thread sealers or chemicals that do not firm up?
Not sure on this one man. You have been dealing with it for years now.
nothing that I can think of. I had the lid attached with some duct tape but ended up taking it off and scraping the glue off. it's in top of the lid as you can see on some of the photos. Been having this problem a lot longer than that tape so I don't think that the cause. It does have me perplexed for sure.

No way for res water to feed backwards right?

What is the ph of the barrel if you can get it? Might give us a clue

no backwards feed that I can tell, nothing out of the ordinary, just the water supply line and a float valve. The only other thing in that system is the booster pump I installed to get my pressure up where it needed to be. I checked the barrel just notw and its sitting at 70 ppm (slowly rises over time) and the pH of the water in the barrel is is 6.5.

I got nothing except an active contamination still happening or something leaching.

Maybe Pam is taking a whizz in there from time to time? Or that damn black cat with the silly name?

sounds like this problem just showed up and you didn't always have this with the same gear in place?

i assume you tried cleaning it, did you try any archaea or something that eats anything organic to rule out any build up?

what is your barrel made of? plastic, polyethylene?

Not sure how soon slg will be back but this has been going on since the farm days.

On a well so really high ppm tap. Went with RO and at first it think it was ok. Then he refinished his kitchen with drywall cabinets floor the whole works and this is in a room off the kitchen. He thought it was construction debris from sanding maybe getting in there. But that was done years ago and he is still dealing with this.

In order for this to be organic activity there would need to be a food source. At 13 ppm out of the RO it’s not in the water. Has to be something else but I can’t figure out what. Almost like a chunk of meat fell in there and is slowly rotting.

Bugs? Mice? Alligators?

I know he fully drained it and cleaned it after the kitchen was done. So if this is something getting into the tank it is still happening not a one time thing.

Slg does not have a bunch of energy to be screwing with this so whatever we come up with needs to be easy to do or I assume he will just live with it.

what if we had him get that water tested and find out what the actual 100ppm is. maybe with a mineral or metal content it would be easier to narrow down?

Ok I’m picking up what you are laying down. 3 thoughts.

1000 ml stir and add ph up like I did here

Post in thread 'Red's Thread ~ All things Cannabis'
https://budbuilders.org/threads/reds-thread-all-things-cannabis.178/post-104046

Measure ppm before and after. If the ppm goes down it is charged particles like metal ions causing the increase.

Second 1000ml add h2o2. Wait. This might help us eliminate biologic activity as the culprit

Final test 1000 ml left open to the air outside the barrel. Does it continue to increase in ppm outside the barrel over time? This would lead me to believe atmospheric contamination vs something in the barrel.

So 3 beakers 3 tests and we cut the problem into bite size pieces.

narrowing it down like that could be a big help.

i'm just curious if it's a water barrel like mine, with all kinds of nooks and crannies near the lid.. could be something stashed up there and when he first fills it it's not so bad then drips down and gets worse,, just brainstorming is all...

Could not find a pic but I did find this talking about it 2 years ago

Iirc it is a lot like yours and sitting in his laundry room off the kitchen.

i don't know a lot about the chillers you guys use but in my cleanroom days we would clean out tank chillers out with a muriatic acid mix to cycle through for a few minutes and then flush clean. is that something that could apply here?

You can clean chiller coils sure but the chiller is plumbed to the res not the RO barrel No cross contamination there.

What he was referring to is when you shut your system down the chiller remains full from whatever was in the res on the last grow. When you first turn it on you get a slug of old water into your new res.
