Been missing the last week.
The weather has got nice so I needed to pick up on a project I dreamed up late last fall.
My wife usually buys one of those cheap shade pavilions and they maybe last 2 years of use before weather gets them[ probably my sloth like reaction to the weather].
So I figured I would just stop the insanity and build a new shade station. My house is sun from sun up to sun down.
This is my project for now;

That's 1 week tonight since post went in the ground. 12x14
I framed the roof up on the ground late fall/ early winter and then got stalled by the weather.
I started with the post last Saturday and had all 4 up on Sunday.
During the week I installed the 2x12 beams, collar ties and second level roof. Then carriage bolted everything in place.
Installed all the rafters and ceiling today.
Using SYP flooring for ceiling for nice view from inside.
Hoping to maybe get the ceiling completed on both levels tomorrow if weather cooperates.
Then come the choices only I care about like roof and facade...
There will be copper, just not sure how much or to what degree.
Helps when you build 5 days a week and own the tools and equipment like scaffold, towable auger with things like this.

Nice work steamroller.

Well I fell 4 boards short of completing the ceiling. 🤷‍♂️
Getting a rain day today so may run over to lumber yard if it slows down enough.
Still got to pad up the roof and install plywood.
All the Heart pine was just so I don't see nails while hanging in the shade..
Pretty pleased with my effort so far.

Looks amazing. Nice work dude. We built a really nice cedar pergola for about $500 in materials, the kits for the same thing, similar size were selling for around $2k.

I would have loved to use cedar or Doug Fir but with lumber prices the Heart pine was a step up from knotty pine and cost about $800 for just the ceiling.
So I am still under 2K so far..
The framing was about $900.
After the plywood and blocking I will hopefully have most of the other materials for the roof. That should round me out near 2K.
Still deciding whether to do full copper standing seam like the pool house in background or use some shingles I have left over. They are the best shingles sold and pretty good looking.
The pitch is so low you won't see much of it up close.
I do have some super beefy copper louvers [ 32-48 oz] from a SUNY removal that I want to incorporate in-between the two levels so steel roof is out due to galvanic action.

Keep the pictures coming, ive worn the hat of a contractor in my past live and you can bet that SLG and i are looking at the detail.
Nice work l
I did not get a contractors hat but they try to make us wear these at work~!

REEF READY 🤣 ~!

Really nice work dude. You're gonna have a hell of a chill spot there. Ours is not nearly as impressive, I'm not as skilled at carpentry as you are lol. We did this as a family during the covid lockdown amd it got us through a pretty heavy time as parents.

Nice pergola~!
Something is more rewarding when you build it. (y)

Awesome work man.
See you this summer 😎
Just remember, you're not far from me so i may not be joking🤣🤣

Cedar shingles will look good with the flashing and copper vertical standing seam or board and batten look between your louvers

Love working on my days off, but it is going to rain 1-2 inches tonight and tomorrow.
So I ply wooded the roof deck and Ice and water shielded it and now we are all good .
Let it rain I need to press rosin and watch Nascar tomorrow anyways.
Installed my first 'layer' of copper. I will probably go with asphalt shingles on the roof, but copper caps on hips and flashing around the upper level.
I found some copper shingles I made 10 years ago for a real multi- multi millionaires sons estate and have enough to wrap my beams!
There was 16 steps each to make these copper shingles and I only made 12,000!

Here is first beam with shingles installed. There is still more to do like covering each seam [wait to you see what I ordered] and doing the soffit, facia and drip with copper. It will make all the copper vertical for viewing pleasure.

Well all done for the day..

So the supplier of my little extra doo dad [ gutter down spout strap] only sent me 50 instead of the 80 I ordered?
I ordered more and they are not really holding me up much.
I have 3 sides complete with the coper shingles and straps and added in my corner braces.
Keeping the title Slacker means not rushing and finishing as fast as others might.
Honestly it rained here from last Saturday till Thursday and I played hooky from work Mon, Tues, and Weds to clean out my shop and get to the brake.
Now with a little repair that is needed on the brake I can get to bending the facia and soffit.
Here is picture of beam with shingles and straps;

So it is a waiting/ slacker game for sure. Need to custom make the corners.
Probably going to go for a ride in the vette today to Mass. The sun is finally shinning here.
Ethos has a new Grape genetic and I can't resist and the supply shop in Mass carries Ethos. If they don't have it it will just be a nice ride and I will order them from NASC.

That will give me 3 Ethos grape varieties along with the Cherry Garcia for my fruity taste.
I already have Grape Diamond[ second or third time growing] , and Planet of the grapes for a first time grow for me so hoping I will find a real great grape.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend~!

Man steam you're a hard working dude!
I love those grape cuts too. I see that Grape Stomper in that gene pool and that's a helluva strain to play with. I ran some "Bright Moments" from Gage Green a while back and it was Grape Stomper x Grape Stomper. Delicous and potent!

Rumor is Moe is shooting for my slacker title.:sneaky:
You all need to do better than naps to beat me~!
Hell I think I sleep through half the day no matter where I am..:p
Those who know me understand I am in no rush.
Being quality orientated and playing with copper every day at work makes me more diligent and picky.

It will turn brown first then maybe green.
It all really depends on environment and acid rain.
I have seen roofs go green in 2-3 years.
My copper roof is still brown 10+ years later.
Here is my first 'pool house/ gazebo';

With a close up of the details I dream up for the windows;

If you look hard you can see the green coming in.
If all goes to plan when I add the aged louvers they will seed my other copper and it will turn faster?
I have seen this many times before. It is like the patina is alive~!

So I am making some green crosses for The Loaded Toad dispensary, they will go on the East and West side of the building alerting passersby that there is some green to be found there. It's not near on the level that @steamroller is at with his copper, but the same principles at work here, same skills and most likely the same tools.

I built the foundation out of 3/4" fir doubled to get the cross shape so it's 1 1/2" thick. I am wrapping them in some aluminum sheet coil with the white backside of the coil out. When finished, I will sand that lightly and prepare it for some special paint designed for metal application. I am also wrapping both sides to completely seal off the inside for years of worry free service, the back side first and then the front.

Sunday update?
Sub facia and facia soffit done on 1/2 the gazebo.
DSC_0294.JPGDSC_0296.JPGHave these cuts from the straps I have an idea for.
DSC_0301.JPG
DSC_0299.JPG
Wife originally thought it looked circusy [ like a circus]..
Then she said the reflection of the straps in the soffit looked cool. Need the picture of that now caus it will be gone soon enough. I love the copper when it is brown. The shine is false advertising to me~!
DSC_0297.JPG
So I will make my life harder and add the cuts all the way around.
Got to do the corners and then slide scaffold down and complete the one side with no shingles yet.
Maybe all caught up by end of the week?
Hard to hold slacker title if you actually get shit done, but no fear I procrastinate to an art~!
Hope you all had a great weekend and Happy Mothers day to all out there.
