It's about weed growing and weed growing accessories I tell you what!

bandit recommended Grandmaster LEd to me when I was looking for Blue lights. I bought a pair of their 450nm booster bars. Their lights look good but have been out of my price range. I'm happy with the Marshydro FC4000-evo's I have. I think I'd need to be a better grower to utilize more expensive lights. The best golf clubs still won't let me whack a ball like Tiger can.

That makes sense! I have time to research and decide. So, with patience, I might even catch some sale prices. It would be nice to have something nice to grow into as I gain experience. Those Evos sound like great lights. I've definitely come across a lot of people who love them.

You're right about the GrandMaster lights being pricey. I don't know if it'll happen again, but I seen people mention getting catching some good sale prices.

Honestly, I was expecting much less from the HPS/MH lights. What I'm seeing, so far, makes purchasing a new light less urgent. I'm still in the "amazed I can grow anything resembling weed" phase, lol. I have a lot to learn and have seen enough to recognize there's a lot more to it than the lights.

Do you know of anyone on Bud Builders who uses the lights from GrandMaster LEDs? I'm curious if anyone here has firsthand opinions to share.

PC, You're mistaking me for somebody else recommending Grandmaster LED.
I would never recommend those lights let alone blue bars.

So let me be totally clear about Grandmaster LED...Geezus even that name makes me throw up in my mouth a little...
Buyer Beware. ☠️
No way I'd spend my money there and no way I'd tell somebody else to do so. Buy if you want though. Nobody here is using them. Pretty sure everybody here either has Spider or Mars and a few CLW.

Evo lights are the same thing across several brands so ACI, Mars, Spider, are all selling the same thing with different stickers just like how Grandmaster and Light Science are the same thing but of much lower quality than Evo.
I have Evos as well and they're good but they're no Osram which is what's in CLW. These are just things where everything on paper looks and seems equal until it's in a real world situation. Like a Kia and Cadillac are both cars and will get you A to B but we gonna say that Kia is a better car just because it got there?
All of these lights grow plants and there's no question about that. Commercial grade just grows a better plant and usually has 5 year warranties.
It's super ez to compare every light out there by looking at it's stats.
Also with LED, you get what you pay for. Go cheap and you'll find yourself trying to supplement it later if not replace it all together. That's my lights rec lol.

2lbs+ from my CLWs' 820 led....not bragging just saying...CLWs is pretty good, I was like you on LEDs, well kinda.

The second to last grow I did before I got shut down as under 1k the bulb from eye-horticulture on a light rail mover, grew over 3lbs. That all came from the bandits' tutelage weather he knows to or not.

They all work, some better some worse. Check out CLWs

Now if I could find a spot for this....

Bandit can give more detailed breakdown of this unit 315 CMH, I believe it at the time it came out it was the cats ass of small combo spectrumes....there's a lot out there...

IDK..... never grown under LEDs before this, jury's still out on how well I like them, still not sure if it's the cause of the foxtailing I'm seeing or if operator error is involved. Find out next round......

I would not have known about them without your heads up about them having the Blue booster bars. Whether you recommended them or not I'm not sure but you definitely told me about them. I wasn't able to find blue lights on a google search. you pointed the way...Recommended???? not really but you did have a part in me buying them.

They seem well built and I'm happy with them but a bit too expensive for what they are. I see no issues with the build and they put out good light....

I still have my other one and aint giving it up! Hahaha
They're still out there. You can get lamps for less than $30 and I've even seen sales for only $5 and fixtures for like $60.
Those lights kicked 600watt HPS out of my room then later CLW kicked the CMH out. Nothing has kicked CLW out....yet. 😋

Going a little old school here as well....taking a refresher course from none other than Jorge!🤣

Good book and still holds up no matter how many times the internet reinvents growing weed.
No chapter about this though. Woulda loved to pick his brain on it

He's still around on the tube,I think it was an ACI branded show in Hawaii I think or at least it was when I was watching it I'll dig it out.

Not sure what he'd say about that, looks like on of these ferns up here...

Welp....Stoney was right. He knew where I'd be buying genetics again after the last pop. Called the shot and now Stinky Pink is in the house!
Picked up a couple others off that Labor Day Sale too

IMG_2188[1].jpeg

Where? I think I need that skunk...GC???

Skunk #1 x Afghani!
What's not to like there lol!

I find what I want then click the sale button and see if there's anything else I may like on sale. Usually find something and Skunk Kush was that something!

still a few days left on the sale...

View attachment 112821

I was mistaken. It wasn't the Labor Day sale but the other sale for Tropical stuff. I went in for Hawaiian Haze and walked away with those three.
I think they have like 2-3 sales going at the same time so it's just a matter of which 15% code will work for which order.

🔥

@BlueCollarBob

I did some light measuring yesterday and figured I'd do a little comparison to show you some of the things I see in lights and how I tier them...

The first step to measuing is DLI and setting my lights to a height and power output that gives me a DLI around 15. DLI is Daily Light Integral and is a way of noting how intense and how much light a plant needs/uses per day.
Cannabis ranges from 10-35 DLI depending on stage of growth.

So I've set both Osram diode loaded (CLW) and Samsung Evo diode loaded (ACI aka Mars aka Spider aka Viper) lights to hit around 15 DLI then take spectral readings
Both lights have similar stats on paper. They're so close in fact it's very ez to say I'm getting the same thing from this light as that light for $300 fewer dollars!
This is gonna make you feel like you've made a good choice and are a savvy shopper.

Here's the real detail of what separates the two and why that lower priced light really isn't comparable in cost or power no matter what the stat sheet reads..

CLW
Screenshot 2025-09-04 095450.jpg

Samsung

Screenshot 2025-09-04 095729.jpg

Before we really begin I should also point out the Samsung simply dim as a whole while the CLW has each color on it's own channel to create a custom spectrum.

First we start with the blue.
Both have good solid range of blue going fairly deep, Samsung going even deeper into blue on the doorstep of UV.
However look where it peaks at around 60%
Now look at that Osram peaking at around 80% and that's at only 50% on the setting. I can send that fucker up to 100 if I want.
That peak and depth directly results terps, potency, and overall biomass of the plant. Go too deep and too far into UV it can cause diminished yields or damage but that's rare.

Green thru roughly around the 610 mark of orange are useless spectrums. Disregard them as they are used by plant but at very low, next to nothing levels. Trace amount light really.

Red is very ez for LED to accomplish and you see it here from both. However look at the steep drop in red from one to the next.
That Osram red that's sweeping and stretching all the way past far red and into infrared at those levels is what will put weight on your plants and promote extensive root growth.
Too much though and it can bleach a plant or cause abnormal growth like foxtails and leaf buds. If you see that the remedy is to raise your light and lessen the far red.

To stretch that red for the Samsung will require supplement and this is where we get into the cheaper light not being the better deal.
If you need to add more light you need to spend more. You'll also be doing an aftermarket addition that has not been tuned and engineered to be integrated into the Samsung. It's blind science at best.
If you buy a light that has been engineered by horticulture science you pretty much get the total package and yeah you pay for it up front but IMO it's worth it.

Also note that this is the best really the LED world has to offer at reasonable affordability today. So anything less like prior models of samsung or other diode manufacturers will be less comparable and need even more supplement.

Genetics have always played the biggest role in density for me. Indicas are like rocks. Hybrids are like big solid beer bottles not quite as dense as indica but formidable density. Sativas just depends...South American tend to come out dense while Asian are lighter and thinned out, more hairy.

LED gets it right because not so much of it's energy is in wasted heat. I cannot remember exactly but something like a 1000watt light only had around 3-400 watts of true usable spectrum light. That might be worth a google search lol. But yeah, it's efficiency was dismal.
LED is far more efficient because with something like my 950 watts, like almost all of it is usable light and the heat is more of a byproduct than something needed to get the light to hit max power..I say that because if HPS does not get to maximum temp, it does not get to full brilliance.

Quick ride around the information super hiway is giving me bad vibes.
Has influencer hype scam written all over it.
Appears to also be under another brand called Light Science. Likely drop ship, bottom shelf, rebrand gear. Probably on the level of quality and performance as any other off brand Chinese made budget LED.

Lighting is something I'm fairly anal about. Really I take that page from commercial growers. Commercial quality is just on another level and it's hard to explain.
It doesn't pimp itself on forums or instagram because it don't need to.
Some is made in China but I prefer American or German made. Not because of any lame nationalist shit but because that's where quality comes from.
CLW, you're getting American made with German guts. Like a Camero with a Mercedes motor or something. If not CLW then I'm looking at Fluence, HLG, and Gavita since that's what doing the job for commercial growers in my area.

IDK why they were going on about Brisky's cool suit not working.
Don't they know my guy has ice water coursing his veins???!!! ;rockb
That was a helluva a race man!
After stage 1 I was like cool, we came out swinging like we should...It's playoff racing, got some points...LFG!!!
After stage 2...Hey Hon....we got a shot at this motherfucker!!!! Brisky got speed and his crew has gone savage out here!!!
Final lap...C'mon 19!!!! C'mon 19!!!!! C'MON 19!!!!!! BOOM! Earthquake at the Hideout!!!
Dogs barking, cats ran for cover, wife started to breathe again....Great times!!!
Especially after that dud of a shit show on Saturday. Geezus that was bad football. Thank goodness for great racing to save the weekend!

Monday film study at work was fun

Yeah man back to back at The Lady in Black!!!
Funny thing too...it was Saturday and I was shopping the fan shop thinking I'd get something for 50 points in August buying merch. Nothing stood out but they did have his preorder #14 Elite diecast on sale for $20 so Iwas like why not and bought it. Next day he goes back to back so it looks like I'll need this diecast too and will need to make a special case for it.

That was real nice pick in the pool for you this late too. I was loving Asstain in 4th until he wasn't and finished 11.
All I need are single digits from these guys and that fucker had to ruin it and drop to 11.

If Brisky can keep that speed I think he'll get to the final four on points and then there's only one thing left to do!!

man who would have ever thought that your post would be a cheat sheet for tuesdays trivia points!!! hahaha

that is a badass paint scheme so a diecast of it will make a great addition to your collection!!

i see no reason why he don't make the final four!!! i picked him to in that playoff pool...

i got my new koosie from HMS already!!!!! i think this may be for the bristol night race coming up, im not sure though.

haha yea i totally get that one, they always seem to have some sort of sale every weekend. i still haven't stocked up for my next round yet. it will probably be an impulse buy because there is nothing calling my name right now.

.

you're flipping this weekend already?

I doubt I'll flip this weekend but taking things day by day. It's all indica and they don't stretch much if at all so I can't really no-veg them and still expect to yield well. Gotta put some meat on those bones first but they're getting close.
I keep pruning and sculpting too so that's also pushes flip back a little.

I don't have much ZB Band but what I do have makes me miss the island!

He's on my short list to pick up the void of Jimmy Buffett music. Him or Kenny Chesney. Steel drums, groovy mellow sounds, and twangy vocals just do it for me lol.

I see we're on the same page. Almost. You got the ;larhoisting the cup at the end and I've gone all in on the ;bris
I had to get a Ford in there and that meant a Penske car. Fucking cheaters🤣

I've been thinking about making a commitment here for some mojo.
Like I half joke about getting a Prius and painting it up to look like the BP #19 but I'm thinking about getting super serious about it now.
Like if he wins the Cup Championship, I'm gonna have to get that Prius and not just paint it, but get it wrapped just like the 19 car.
It would be ridiculous but so damn hilarious driving that car around COTA on race day. A Yaris would be funny too but a Prius is Chef's Kiss funny. Be even funnier to take off the muffler and get a glasspack welded up in it.

Man speaking of diecasts...I went on a bit of a splurge and will need new garages or cases, build a new house, IDK but this collection is getting to be a concern now.
So you got 1:64 of the KL '69 camaro correct?

28-1__83622.jpg

I had been waiting for the 1:18 to come out and they drop this month. So I waited to order until now but I didn't get the #5.
It was the hood bro. It's so bland compared to the rest of the car it soured me and couldn't pull the trigger.
Along with that....I know DJ is gonna hate this and maybe you too...the Jeff Gordon kept calling me.

It was the rainbow on black rims that did it for me. Fucker just screams early 70s hot rod to me with that livery. Makes me want a van with a mural of a sunset on it and mag rims or something.
Gonna put it in this case

We'll be Stinky Pink twinsies! ;rockb

I think I checked out that Island Sweet Skunk as well but didn't buy.
I've been looking for original Maui Wowie seeds but will settle for options. Hawaiian Haze was there as well as Pineapple Express and a couple others that had something similar. I'll also take a strong lemon so looking at lemon hazes as well.
I wanna line up a sativa/haze grow of old school all stars for the next round ;roc

@Bandit420, which CLW light are you measuring above? I'm in the market for a new light and CLW are on the radar. I have a SpiderFarmer but only use it for vegging at this point. It just doesnt seem to do well in my space for flowering. I'm actually using an old setup using Cree COB's for flowering and they do a lot better than the SpiderFarmer although the light footprint from the COBs isn't ideal.

Oh, man! I never would have asked you to put all that together. Way to kind of you to do this. It IS appreciated.

I've been stretched a little thin recently, but do have plans to study up on lights. My plan is to poke around the web, learn what I can, and return to the forum to figure out how much I have right. Now, I have what you shared as a great resource to reference.

Now look at that Osram peaking at around 80% and that's at only 50% on the setting. I can send that fucker up to 100 if I want.

Am I following along right on the settings you used to compare performance?

Samsung:

Adjust intensity and height until showing around 15 DLI.

Osram:

Set each channel to 50%. Adjust intensity and height until showing around 15 DLI.
The schedule doesn't matter as long as it was the same for calculating DLI on both lights, right?

If I was ready to purchase a light right now, I would be completely confident in laying down the money for the CLW. Especially versus the Tarantula Borg Evolution V2, since it's roughly the same price as the SolarSystem 1100. I'll bet you didn't expect me to mention GrandMaster LEDs again, lol. I don't have any bias against or preference for any light manufacturer, because I have zero experience with any of them. I'm just annoying af about wanting to understand the "why" things. I want to understand why GML falls short. And it's just GML. because they're the manufacturer I mentioned that led to this conversation. I'm running into positive reviews, but they are mostly about even coverage. I don't think I've seen anything about spectrum range. Not sure I can compare SolarSystem to Borg Evolution V2, unless dumb luck leads me to a spectrum graph at 15DLI.

The Osram versus Samsung diodes performance comparision makes sense to me, but the Tarantula Borg V2 complicates it for me by using this mix of diodes: Samsung LM301H EVO Mint White + LEDESTAR 2835 White and Osram 660nm + LEDESTAR 450nm + LEDESTAR 730nm. So, now I'm really curious what this blend offers and what this means for the blues.

I read what people report and see the results they share. Now I want to understand it. I'll revisit this message somewhere down the road and recognize how far off I was when I posted it. I'm old enough to not care about looking silly, lol.

I haven't had time to really study up. Here is some specs I gathered for the SolarSystem 1100 and the Tarantula Borg Evolution V2. That's followed by info AI churned out when I took a stab at using it to do some type of spectral power comparison.

FWIW, I just took a guess at using 600W to allow flexibility (880W max for SS1100) and had AI generate this.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of the spectral power distribution at 600W, focusing on maximizing key wavelengths:

Feature California Lightworks SolarSystem 1100Grandmaster LEDs Tarantula Borg Evolution V2
Overall Output and FlexibilityAt 600W, the SolarSystem 1100 is dimmed down to 75% of its maximum 800W output. All three channels (blue, red, and white) are lowered proportionally, maintaining a balanced full-spectrum blend. You cannot independently increase the intensity of any one color while holding the 600W power draw.At 600W, the Tarantula Borg is operating at a moderate intensity, well below its maximum of over 1500W. This provides a wide margin to adjust the intensity of its four channels independently (Cool White, Warm White, Deep Red, Far-Red) while staying within the 600W limit.
Maximizing BlueThe blue light output is a fixed component of the overall dimmed spectrum. You cannot direct the full 600W to just the blue-spectrum diodes. The Tarantula Borg allows a grower to run the Cool White (blue-dominant) channel at a very high intensity while reducing the output of other channels. This results in a much more powerful and concentrated blue spectral peak at the 600W power level.
Maximizing RedThe red light output is also fixed within the balanced, dimmed spectrum. You cannot allocate more of the 600W power to specifically boost the red wavelengths. With its dedicated Deep Red (660nm) channel, the Tarantula Borg enables the grower to create an intensely red-dominant spectrum. By increasing the Deep Red and Warm White channels, the grower can create a more powerful and targeted red light for flowering than the
SolarSystem 1100
.
Maximizing IRIR output is tied to the red/deep red channel and is not independently controllable or maximizable. The Tarantula Borg has a dedicated Far-Red (730nm) channel that can be independently programmed or set. This allows a grower to run this channel at 100% (or any desired level) to maximize the IR output while budgeting the remaining wattage for the other channels.
Efficiency and Potential OutputAt 600W, the SS1100's efficiency is still respectable, but it is fixed by the light's hardware.By selecting the most efficient diodes and only running the necessary spectrum, the Tarantula Borg can potentially achieve a higher photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) at the 600W level, thanks to its high-quality Samsung LM301H and other diodes.

I came across this when I was looking around. It's pretty funny:

Skunk #1 x Afghani!
What's not to like there lol!

I find what I want then click the sale button and see if there's anything else I may like on sale. Usually find something and Skunk Kush was that something!

I was mistaken. It wasn't the Labor Day sale but the other sale for Tropical stuff. I went in for Hawaiian Haze and walked away with those three.
I think they have like 2-3 sales going at the same time so it's just a matter of which 15% code will work for which order.

@BlueCollarBob

Samsung

FeatureCalifornia Lightworks SolarSystem 1100Grandmaster LEDs Tarantula Borg Evolution V2

Howdy jguit!
I'm measuring the Spectramax 1000.
Production of the light is over due to supply chain issues. The new models are SolarXtreme and everything you want to know about the diodes inside is here

Coming up short is a fairly common theme with SF lights.
Cree COB are good lights. I consider those to be exactly like HPS but at half the power. So if 1000 watts of HPS was needed, 500 watts of Cree COB will be used nearly identical in height and footprint and deliver the same results.

I've been using various CLW lights for maybe 15 years or so but there's others I'd consider as well...Mammoth Lighting deserves a mention and as I've mentioned before, HLG, Gavita, and others have top shelf lights.
I'm still on the fence about these two EVO lights I have. IDK if I'll replace them with CLW or Mammoth but those are the two brands I'm looking to first for what i want to do if I do decide and have an ez way to unload the EVO.

i gt more for this post but for now i gotta drop this... looks like we'll be sticky triplets!!! hahaha

do it do it!!!!! yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was a pretty easy pick for me.. loaded up the cart and checked out in under ten minutes... the goat i already had in my cart from months ago so i just left it in there... the auto was a freebie, not a choice..

I'm a firm believer in that autoflower seeds should always be free but for real, the plant labels are the best free things to come with GC seeds. Pack of papers aint too bad either.
I know,!! Those damn autos.. I kept trying decline... But they kept adding them to it,whatever...

See I have a little trick when it comes to autos. I send them to stoney. I send other stuff to cover up the fact I'm dumping my garbage in the mail and sending it to him and for some reason he kinda likes it so I keep doing it.

So IDK man but a lot of that data and info is pretty weird and off.
If you wanted a SS1100 it wouldn't be $1500 + $250 on the controller. Given the quality I'd buy both those things used as long as they have date stamps of 2020 or later and spend maybe $500 on that combo.
If I were to buy their SolarXtreme, I'd use a 30% off coupon and buy it new.
Any other light, I'd run my coupon and code programs thru it but I wouldn't go off MSRP when shopping since nobody pays sticker price on LED. At least I hope not!.

Seems you're learning quick people and companies fudge spec data and tell buyers what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear.

Genetics and lights man. You will never read or hear about more bullshit, more hype, more drama than people selling lights or genetics. We all step on the landmines dealing with it. All the hype makes my eyes roll really.
It's weird man and I cannot ingest that crap. Influencers, podcasts etc just make me
I like growers. Growers showing their shit and doing the grind, talking about what works and what's shit.
If I were just starting out but knowing what I know, I'd only scour the internet for growers doing work and not getting paid for it or comped free shit for it.
Maybe visit some farms if possible or email farms and ask questions about the equipment they use.

Yes when I test I set each light to a certain DLI then make comparisons on the color of spectrum and PPFD. So each light will be at equal DLI but the comparison shows which light is truly full spectrum and the true operating height of a light and how much power it needs to use to hit that number.

Something about that guy always bugged me. A bit too arrogant for me

I was half afraid to comment about all of that. What it really comes down to is my curiosity about things and just wanting to wrap my head around and understand what I'm looking at. Honestly, I haven't had much time to chew on it. I doubt I'll be able to satisfy my curiosity about that diode blend (particularly blues from cool white) until someone measures and shares results like you did. I'm sorta surprised I'm not finding side-by-side comparisons between CLW and GML, since both offer spectrum tuning.

Yeah, I didn't seek out the AI stuff. That came up when I was searching for spectrum capability comparisons between CLW and GML I was surprised that it got the spectrum tuning capabilities of the CLW wrong, since there should be a lot more data about that available for AI to pull from.

Well it does take some money to do these tests and not many go down that rabbit hole.
I've seen companies go up against CLW on paper but don't actually do a versus grow or side by side. And if they do, it's like with grass sprouts or something where nearly all lights are equal. I can make CFL look amazing with fucking grass sprouts but it don't do shit for growing pot.
I suspect they don't do it because they've lied about their specs.
I've seen that measly 2.5umols Solarsystem absolutely wipe the floor with lights hitting 2.9 and even 3.0. That should be like a 4 cylinder going up against a 6 and the 6 should easily win but gets beat bad.
So either that other company was bullshitting about hitting 3.0 or the SS 2.5 is really that much better than another company's 3.0.
I believe Umols are like the new THC test. Pretty soon we'll be seeing bullshit like 4-5 like we do 40+% on flower THC tests which is really impossible unless the test has been corrupted or fudged.
Bottom line is there's more liars and hustlers and pimps in this game than ever before so it's wise to follow tried and true and not get sucked into the trap.

many 3 fans hated the 24 and the 24 fans!!! i personally never had a beef with gordon.. even the year Rudd finished 2nd behind him, this was back before they had playoffs. i think Gordon won the title that year with three races left in the year... yeah like thats exciting!! NOT!

Larson's rookie year is when i actually really started to be a Gordon fan and root for him. he's been doing great things for larson ever since!!!
