I bought another light but on arrival I noticed it wasn’t what I ordered .i ordered the lumatek 2.9 465 which has lumileds and osram, the one they sent was the 3.1 which has Samsung and osram..so I messaged them and said we just rang the official importer of lumatek and they no longer have the 2.9 version.but I can offer you 2 x arcyeye 200 w which has the worlds finest 301H Samsung horticultural chip lmao.just when I told them I won’t run Samsung .if Samsung is moving away from led lighting what are they going to give me if it breaks down if it does say in a couple yrs time.. it’s false advertisement too sending something different to what I want..
The Future of LED Horticultural Lighting: Beyond Samsung LEDs
Samsung LEDs have long been a benchmark in horticultural lighting and are widely used in high-performance grow lights. However, as Samsung gradually shifts its focus away from this segment, the horticultural lighting market is entering a period of transition, and Samsung-based LED grow lights are gradually phased out of the market.
For growers, the main issue isn't losing Samsung's high efficiency, but deciding what to choose next.
Why Samsung LEDs Withdrew from Horticultural Lighting
Samsung's exit from garden lighting is primarily driven by strategic and industry-level changes rather than product performance.
Industry Restructuring
The LED and semiconductor industry has been consolidating. Companies are streamlining product portfolios and focusing on higher-growth areas such as automotive lighting, microLED, and AI-related chips, while reducing exposure to smaller niche markets like horticultural lighting.
Business Focus Shift
Samsung Electronics has increasingly directed R&D and production toward higher-value applications, including display technologies and automotive solutions. Compared to these priorities, horticultural LEDs represent a relatively small and less strategic segment.
Rising Price Competition
The horticultural LED market has become highly price-competitive due to mass adoption and low-cost manufacturing expansion. As performance differences between chip suppliers narrowed, profit margins declined, making the segment less attractive for premium manufacturers.
Key Evaluation Criteria for Alternatives
Efficiency
The Samsung LM301 series has long been a benchmark in horticultural lighting due to its high efficiency, typically reaching around 2.7–3.14 μmol/J. A suitable alternative should achieve a comparable level of efficacy.
