I have a Canadian neighbor w/ dual citizenship and we used to go back and forth with the humor, him going after my "dumb redneck American w/ a truck" type shit throwing stereotypes at me but there's some times his racist shit comes out so I'll throw it back at him and call him a Snow Mexican and say shit like Trump is building a wall on the wrong border.
I kinda inspired his son to join the military about 15 years ago. He was leaning toward it but often came to ask me questions about my time in the service. But he joined the Canadian military. So when that happened I'd send his dad pics like these to fuck with him and one time I gave him a copy of Canadian Bacon on DVD for Xmas

It's cool that you have a neighbor who can take a joke. At times, I'm more of an isolationist. A few days ago, I saw this meme that had a ring of truth to it:

I'm the neighbor who will always smile and say "Howdy" and wave in passing. My city and neighborhood has grown like mushrooms after a rain the past 20 years and it being tech industry driven, not many are actually from here and many of my old neighbors have been priced out. Everybody is a stranger to each other. I still say hi or howdy to everybody but yeah there's some who return it, some ignore it, and some act like I've stolen their innocence or something by saying hello.
Sometimes knowing who's who now, I'll say high to their dogs but not them anymore.
There's some things the Canadian across the street and I have had issues about...like his wife's burn barrel that stinks gawd awful, trapping neighbors cats and taking them be be put to sleep because he don't like cats, and he has some traits in personality I don't welcome into my home but after establishing some lines we can get along well. Not buddies by any means but not antagonistic to each other either and can at least say hi and wave to each other. I do miss his kids and doing up Xmas decor and Halloween displays with them in mind.
