Planning out the 2025 outdoor grow

Just back from a 10 day vacation, from being retired! What the f?

All the plants clicked over 9 weeks on Monday (or 10 weeks and possibly 11). Since it’s outdoors, I can only guess!

Blackberry Moonshine is really close, it’s losing a lot of leaves.
Super Blue Dream clones are looking close to done, but keep popping out whites here and there!
KC Wolfenstein (Sativa) looks old and tired, heads are bobbing sideways but it’s still growing.

I’m going to take about 50% of buds and let the rest go until I come back in about a week.

First round of harvest.

I took about 3/4 of blackberry moonshine.
The plant is probably going through senescence, fans are brown and dropping.
I’m hoping I can let the last quarter of the plant get ultra ripe. I’ll leave it grow about ten more days.

The branches are thickly budded along 24”, about seven inches broad at the thickest.
Smell is very pleasant with a kick.

I harvested about 3/4 of one super blue dream plants. Branches are dense with buds along more than three feet, more than 8” across at the thickest.

Finally, I cut about half the KC wolfenstein. Long branches have about 12” to 15” of buds at the tips with larfy undergrowth below that. Lots of big buds but lots of keif shake too.

I never weigh, so all I can say is it’s more weed than I had when I started, by a lot. I hope it smokes as well as it smells fresh.

I still have about 1/4 of last year’s super blue dream harvest, and it’s the daily smoke for both my daughter and me. Plus I gave about 6 oz away. I can’t wait to compare this year’s harvest. IMG_2870.jpeg

Everything will hang outside in shade and fresh foothills air for a couple days then transfer to the Bay Area for a long slow dry and cure.

Nice grow Tom. Not used to seeing so few plants in the background. You have anything planned for the next go?

I do need to think about next season, outside

I have one seed of something called China white. I really loved it the last time I grew it. Technically it is an indica but I always found energy in the buzz. I’m going to try this one again.
I’m also thinking of growing something called “the gift”. It’s a pure CBD strain but really yummy.

Other than those, I’d like to grow green crack outside, indoors it was great, sunlight can only make it better. Maybe apple gelato too.

Hey, is there a recommended viagra dosage to take care of this?

This is the product of some brutal bending to keep her low.

I harvested a couple branches from super blue dream and blackberry moonshine a bit early but there were some concerns with a bud on each. I’m guessing it was caterpillars even though I sprayed and picked religiously. I don’t believe it was a virus, bacterial or fungal bud rot just munch damage.
I’ll need to be aware when I’m cleaning.

Decision time!

Big inbound storm in 2 days, supposed to drop 1.5” over 2 days.
There will be no one here to shake the moisture out of the plants.
Tomorrow is end of “week 10” (outdoors, so we’ve already covered that it could be more like 11 or more).

Question is:
should I chop today (my last day here for 8 days)

OR

wait it out, hope it doesn’t mold?

I’m starting to lean towards chopping today, but …

What would you do?

I would chop it.

I appreciate these opinions so far,

chop is on!

I cleaned up the hanging area for more branches.
I filled 4 large grocery bags (NOT lightly packed) to make room for the second chop!

I need to get all that^^^^ into a drying rack, but for now, it’s fun to look at!

Now, I gotta get busy again! This is the good busy!

The rest of three trees and a bush were harvested this morning.

Until I have a smoke report, I’ll leave it at this:
It was a good season, with really good genetics, some early trouble with bugs and bug spray didn’t seem to cause any trouble at all. The biggest take away for me is to wait an additional month to start seeds for outdoors, get them into the ground about 3 weeks later than this year and things should remain manageable height wise yet still yield a good harvest!

I do need to get more efficient at bug control, not sure if I can count on good bugs only instead of sprays. I’d like to have a bug solution for outdoors that doesn’t include spraying the plants, but the caterpillars would make Swiss cheese.

Maybe I need a fine mesh screen that will enclose the plants??

I've been having the same thoughts on screening off the outdoor plants.

I saw something earlier this year that had something like a mesh barrel with hoops to keep the mesh expanded. It was covering a small peach or apple tree. I think it said it could cover a 6’ tall tree, I don’t recall the horizontal expansion, but I’m sure it was decent. I’ll need to do some research. Hopefully I saved a link!

Chop! Only lost to rot twice but it’s enough. A week early is better than a week after WPM or bud rot.

Moms tried the mesh on her vegetable garden mixed results. Doesn’t stop squirrels or chipmunks though. Bugs only became an issue here in mid September, that includes slugs and caterpillars. Started getting into the tomatoes and green peppers.
