Sweet Leaf Grow's Grow Room

Not sure how soon slg will be back but this has been going on since the farm days.

On a well so really high ppm tap. Went with RO and at first it think it was ok. Then he refinished his kitchen with drywall cabinets floor the whole works and this is in a room off the kitchen. He thought it was construction debris from sanding maybe getting in there. But that was done years ago and he is still dealing with this.

In order for this to be organic activity there would need to be a food source. At 13 ppm out of the RO it’s not in the water. Has to be something else but I can’t figure out what. Almost like a chunk of meat fell in there and is slowly rotting.

Bugs? Mice? Alligators?

I know he fully drained it and cleaned it after the kitchen was done. So if this is something getting into the tank it is still happening not a one time thing.

Slg does not have a bunch of energy to be screwing with this so whatever we come up with needs to be easy to do or I assume he will just live with it.
You said well. Something die in there maybe? 🤷‍♂️

Testing underway.

Pulled a glass of water straight off the filter, measured 37 ppm. Gonna let that sit on top of the water barrel and check it over the next couple of days.
I've ran this test long enough that I can be fairly certain I'm getting contamination from something in the room, perhaps that closet where the hot water heater and well is. Gonna pick up some plastic and put that up over that opening, see if that does anything.

Started out kind of high at 37 ppm. Tested on Sunday, 72.3 ppm. Then I tested today and hit 101.....gradual but noticeable uptick in ppm and I gotta get this figured out!

Thanks guys 👊

i don't know a lot about the chillers you guys use but in my cleanroom days we would clean out tank chillers out with a muriatic acid mix to cycle through for a few minutes and then flush clean. is that something that could apply here?
I don't physically clean the chiller but I do vacuum the water out with the shop vac when I change out the res. I would not think this the problem but could be.

I don’t think this is organics. You can’t measure bacteria directly via EC. And in that RO water they would have nothing to eat

I’m really stumped on what this could be. Hopefully someone brighter than me will have an idea.

i don't know much about RO filters but could there be something in the membrane?

how about a UV filter, does it contain one of those and maybe the bulb is old?

just seems weird that it would be something airborne floating in the room...

at least now you know it's not in the barrel and to look before the barrel. not much left...

SLG, please do the same test again, only this time seal the jar of test water.

Not all contaminants will register in a TDS test.
I read about this trying to figure out your issue.

In the same respect all increases of TDS must have a 'solid' source.
Beyond concentration from evaporation, it really should only be from airborne particles.
Once water is through the RO system the system cannot have any further effect.
If the system was flawed the water would show it right away.

Interested in seeing what happens with sample covered.

mw too man, because if the covered sample does not go up then it all goes back to like Moe said and wow are you possibly breathing whatever it is... one way says good we know we're not breathing it in and the other way goes to something possibly more serious.

either way i think he is getting closer to the answer.

Got the two tents going, one with theh Black Cherry Bliss frim Impulsive Grower and another AF Coup by Brother Mendel.....been wanting to try more of his stuff/

The AF Coup has been doing stellar, couldn't be better I think. The res has been super stable and running ppm's a bit higher than in the recent past at 650. She kept wanting more so I gave it to her and she seems super happy. I've defoliated a tad bit and topped her once. She's a hungry plant and I am looking forward to good things from this strain.

The Black Cherry Bliss is a bit of a different story. Had a heck of a time finding out what this plant wants. They are both the same age and you can really see the difference between a healthy and robust seedling and one that is less than. Not sure what is wrong with this seedling but have been trying different things to see if I can discover it and learn something. Raised the ppm's.....nope, she didn't like that. Raised the intensity of the light, not much difference after that but turned it back down not wanting to stress her with too much light. It's just going to be a learning experience so far and just trying different things till I find out what works, until I get fed up with that shit and toss it anyway.

Not sure what the issues is.....both seeds started the same time and in almost identical systems and the same driver (ME) and what a difference. Gonna keep trying new and different things to see if I can solve this mystery.

I got a cover on my water barrel and it seems to be keeping the ppms down. Contamination coming from the room, most likely that unfinished closet. Get that done and I think the problem will be gone. Thanks guys! 👊

Thanks Grump, gonna take more than this to knock me down, although I have been getting back up when it sneaks one in, so ready for the next one! 😵

I'm managing to keep all three grows going and they aren't doing too bad. My main weakness is in the training to get the most yield, still not very good at that, practicing on the Mendel's AF Coup but not doing all that great. She is also not stretching as much as I anticipated, I threw that scrog in there but realized it's too low to be able to check the water levels etc. So I raised it up some and hopeing this gal starts to stretch, been flipped to 1212 for about a week now, showing a good amount of pistils so gonna do what I can and try to do a major defoliation in a week or two.

In the 5x5 I have had issues with seeds not sprouting, and I also lost a clone recently, had a bad colony in the roots is all I can tell and it never did recover. So I am way behind on this one but starting to catch up. Went with Ethos Purple Zkittles RBX, keeping quite a bit of blue in the light and she is short and stout, topped her once and now just watching her take off, roots look fantastic.

In the other 3x3, same problems with seeds not sprouting got me behind, but I finally got a Mellow Fellow seed to sprout, and although she was very delicate with the root coming straight up, I babied her til she started to take off and now I got roots touching water so she is going to make it. This was a great strain for my meds and have high hopes for this pheno to me be similar.

I forgot to mention earlier, I picked up a small website gig and talked my wife into a major purchase for the grow room, I scored a new chiller for that third tent. I've ran two or three grows in this tent without a chiller but that has mostly been during the winter time. Water temps are a problem and all the plants I've ran in this system seemed to me to be lethargic and just not as healthy as they are where I am using a chiller.

So wham bam, thank ya ma'am @MrsSweetLeaf papa's got a new chiller in da house 🥳

My bad luck with seedlings continues, unexplained. Everything was good except water temps have been in the high 70's and low 80's. The new chiller arrived but I have not hooked it up yet, gonna cut my losses on this seedling after what I see this morning, dang, she was looking very good two days ago and now this, well shit.

Got a new seed in 50-50 hydrogen peroxide and water, will put this one in the vertical germinator and then directly into the system which will have the chiller installed and a much better water temps! Gonna go with a cool strain called Violetta from Ace Seeds. Not a high thc strain but hoping it makes up for that with a cool terp profile. Most info I've found on this strain says medium difficulty, hope I can live up to that!

That Mendels AF looks great.
Thanks man, it looks good but what a mess with defoliation! I'm trying to keep her as short as possible because of this new light, has to have a good distance or bad things might happen I'm thinking anyway. With that scrog table so low, it;s all but impossible to get in there and trim what needs to be trimmed. Just gonna do what I can with lots of fans and call it good, but yea, she's starting to shine for sure! 👊

Hey man, thanks for the update - seriously inspiring to see you pushing through all that and getting back into the grow. That Black Cherry Bliss and Trop Cherry cross sounds fire. Wishing you solid health and strong roots on this new round.

Thank you! Going to have to try that Black Cherry Bliss again in the near future.

Figured I would do an update since it's been a while, everything is finally chugging along, and even got some separation between everything so it's not all going to come ready at the same time, looking at the bright side of seedling and clone problems.

First up in the 3x3 is the Violetta seedling that I started about a week ago. It's doing well and roots in the water already.

image0.jpeg
image1.jpeg

Next up is the Ethos Purple Zkittles. I've grown this one before but that was back when I was in soil so excited about what this will be like in hydro. Started from seed she is about 4 weeks old and I'm going quite a bit longer in veg to try to fill this space as much as possible and leave a bit of room for me to get around the back and do the necessary defoliation.

image2.jpeg

image3.jpeg

Finally is the LA Coup by Brother Mendel. Right at about 3 weeks since flip and she is already LOUD and gonna reek I can already tell. Sticky as all get out already too. I tried to scrog this plant but it never stretched, almost none as a matter of fact. So I ended up pulling that scrog table and just installed a trellis for support, thinking she has stretched as far as she is going to at this point and gonna need some support for what I hope are large flowers.

Everything is cruising along nicely in the grow room, thought I'd do an update today since it's been a while.

First up is the Purple Zkittlez from Ethos. All I have done to this plant is top it once at the 5th node and did a small amount of training on those two branches coming out from where I topped her. Thinking of letting this one go natural with no scrog just to make things easier for me, I'm still not 100% but getting there. If I let her go natural, who thinks I oughta flip soon. Lots of room in the 5x5 to make things easier with defoliation in the back of the tent.

IMG_5282.jpg
IMG_5283.jpg

Next up is the AF Coup from Brother Mendel. Almost 6 weeks since flip, she's really reaking loud right now and hoping these flowers have a lot of weight to put on yet, at least 3 more weeks til harvest so plenty of time to fatten up.
IMG_5284.jpg

IMG_5285.jpg
IMG_5286.jpg

Lastly is the Violetta from Ace Seeds in Spain. Looking forward to what this strain has to offer.

IMG_5287.jpg

All 3 res's are staying super stable with nothing bad to report, things have been on auto pilot for the most part and I'm thankful for that!

Cruising along here, almost time for a harvest on the LA Coup and I got them spaced out a bit so everything doesn't come ready at the same time.

Purple Zkittlez has been getting big and so I decided to flip to flower yesterday, running the HPS simulation on the Raging Kush 12/12. I tied back some of the branches using old milk jugs with some water in them as tie off points, got her spread eagle and some of the inner branching is filling out the middle of the plant, hoping for a fairly even canopy out of this gal, got a net trellis installed to account for the stretch.

IMG_5310.jpg
IMG_5311.jpg

The LA Coup is almost ready, sitting at 7 weeks and 1 day since flip. I've done a bit of defoliation but this plant is so short and crowded it's very hard to get in there to prune. Got two fans in there on high and humidity has been under control so should be ok as far as mold goes. I've got some high hopes for this one and looking forward to seeing this one tested.

IMG_5316.jpg
In the other 3x3, I've got the Violetta doing nicely. She's been building roots and they look good, did a bit of pruning of those lower leaves and looks like this one is going to be another short stout strain, mainly Indica I am guessing. Anyhow, changed the res out for early growth the other day and everything is on auto pilot at this point.

IMG_5317.jpg

Right at 8 weeks for the AF Coup but she's still not ready. I'm headed to Salt Lake City for Dr. appointments and won't be back until the 29th so it may be I let her go til at least then, I checked trichomes and very few amber on sugar leaves and almost none on the buds. Gonna go later rather than sooner with this gal. She's also still drinking quite a bit, bout a gallon a day.

Violetta is really starting to shine up top finally, roots look great. I topped her the other day and she's in the process of setting in some branching. Changed the res on her yesterday for a higher early growth concentration, nailed it and it's been very stable since with a slight uptick in the pH, EC staying constant, almost perfect conditions.

IMG_5321.jpg

IMG_5322.jpg

The Ethos Purple Zkittlez is also starting to shine, one week since I flipped her and she is starting to show some pre flowers and starting too stretch as well. I've got a trellis in there for when she does that she'll have some support for some huge buds! this plant is going to be huge!

I like the milk jug tie off idea, I may use that or something similar in the future

Zero fade on the AF Coup, every so called 8 week strain needs 10 weeks at least.see you monday

You can't see it in those photos but there is a tiny bit of fade that i starting to come in. She'll be close to ready when I get home I believe. She is still drinking about a gallon a day too so that right there says wait, but you're right, 8 weeks is never enough unless you count from first sign of pistils and not flip time. Likely I will wait a coupe of days after I get back, I want to turn off the red spectrum for the last two days of flower, supposed to increase terp levels.

I agree, Most of the time I have taken them too early but I think I'm over that and don't mind waiting. Plus, thanks to you and Moe, I've had no shortage of oil for medicine! Looking forward to seeing you and your bride tomorrow!

good luck on your trip and your appointments!!!

good luck on your trip and your appointments!!!
Back from SLC and all the Dr. reports were favorable, going in for my one year scans in late September so we'll see then. Last full scan showed no evidence of disease which corresponded well with the blood tests they ran.

Waited on the LA Coup till I got home and she was ready I do believe, did the chop and got her hanging now ready to be jarred up in a few more days. I'm going to get this tested so I will post those results here when I get them, will be a while, I like to let it cure a bit before testing if I can.

I'd been working on getting a seed going for this tent with zero luck for the past 2.5 weeks, several dud seeds and I'm done with that shit. Got a new order from Brother Mendel and couldn't be happier with the purchase. His freebees are awesome right out of his catalog and not some tester BS like a lot of breeders do. I ordered the Aetherial Orange and some more LA Coup seeds and the freebees were Chanel #47 and Pre 2003 AK-47 F2 and a bonus, a bunch (I didn't count them) of seeds from a strain called Lime Sunburst which I think is a new project of his, I dunno. Anyhow, they are reg's so chances of me starting one is not that great unless there is something special in that strain.

So, long story to say I got the Aetherial Orange started in a paper towel, literally 2 days counting the pre soak in 1:1 hydrogen peroxide and water, and I put her in a rapid rooter and into the system where I had LA Coup after cleaning it out of course. Did all that yesterday and today I have and official seedling. Another one on the way and got some high hopes for this strain. Brother Mendel has never disappointed me yet.

have a great weekend man!!!!!!

No spitting watermelon seeds for me, yet. And yea, the mucous is just facts of life for me now and just learning how to live with it. Coffee keeps me going all day long with small sips, but its a start and I hope to be eating real food soon. Part of this procedure is that they had to pull all my lower teeth and so I'm almost there with getting new dentures for that, one more visit and I will have that denture, gonna try solid food a bit more at that point. Time to get off this feeding tube!

Thanks bro, hope your weekend is stellar 👊

Got the LA Coup jarred up and ended up with a total of 9.5 oz of icky sticky buds, pretty hapy with that, gonna get this one tested but gonna let it cure for a bit before I submit my sample. Meanwhile, got the Aetherial Orange going strong in it's spot and coming along nicely. Roots in the water already and seeing progress there every day, still a bit slow up top but that is fixen to change here soon.

IMG_5359.jpg

Purple Zkittles by ethos is going strong at almost 4 weeks since flip, got about 4-5 more weeks to go on this girl, I've let her go mostly natural with just a bit of topping and LST when she was small. Now she's a beast, got 4 fans running inside the tent to avoid any wet spots forming in leaves that touch each other. Probably end up with a bit of larf in the end, but I'm the new slacker and a slacker's gotta do what a slackers gonna do!

IMG_5355.jpg
IMG_5356.jpg

Last but not least is the Ace Seeds Violetta, I have been doing a bit more care to this plant, some topping and LST and she's almost ready to flip to flower, maybe a week longer in veg but no more than that I think?

IMG_5357.jpg
IMG_5358.jpg

That's it for this update. Hope you all had a safe and happy 4th! 👊

Cruising along in SLG's grow room, a couple weeks away from another harvest on the Purple Zkittlez. Beautiful plant and is already starting to show some fade, not much changes in the res, she's just starting to turn and I figure I still got 3 weeks left minimum.

IMG_5373.jpg

IMG_5374.jpg

IMG_5372.jpg

IMG_5375.jpg

Violetta is REALLY starting to shine, a couple weeks since flip almost and she is showing some very small pistils and still stretching, although I don't expect this girl to stretch much more than she already has, showing strong Indica with nice fat fans, I'm guessing she will stay relatively short, but stout she is, no need for a support trellis in this one I'm thinking, just a beautiful plant and such a fast veg has me really liking this strain so far.

IMG_5378.jpg
IMG_5379.jpg

Last but not least we've got the Aetherial Orange seedling. Short and squat this one is so far, not looking the greatest but giver a couple of weeks and she will most likely be doing very well.
